I've updated the preliminary list, adding some of the artists/songs that have been nominated already, just to provide some food for thought.

TFW you realize that Orange Caramel hasn't even released anything for two years. :(

Ah, yes, I forgot to say that that all nominations will be weighted equally. I've added that to the survey.

It's exactly that, yeah.

I'm lousy doing lists by memory, I would have to do some research for suggestions and I'm too lazy... a good start is already done I agree with plenty. '24 hours' and AS Flashback maybe should be there too.
Edit: Flashback is from 2012..

I generally never post but I submitted my list anyways. I'm hoping that Glam makes it onto the final list. They (understandably) disbanded but all of their songs were great.

I'd give my suggestions for a k-pop classics list, but I feel like my faves can't necessarily be considered 'classics' ... And a lot are older than 4 years too lol. However I do believe Dal Shabet's B.B.B deserves a spot. Plz.

Just filled out the Essentials... got up to 25.

But I gotta say, there was some ridiculous glaring omissions that I'm honestly baffled as to why it's not on there.

For example, no BoA tracks at all? That's disrespect to the ultimate queen of K-Pop. How shameful y'all.

Also Miss A's Hush... Only You is cool but zombie JYP creeps me out so no thanks.

Finally, where the hell is K-Pop's Beyonce? This isn't an essential playlist without Ailee.

Anyway, my list was more k-hiphop oriented and while it's not comprehensive, it should be also good enough for somebody wanting to get in k-hiphop.

Do we have a Spotify playlist going? Should have a vote for a playlist of top 100 or so songs where they don't need to have a MV

I'm not by a pc this week and don't know when the deadline is for this track voting thing which seems to be going on but if it's classics obv boa needs to be there. Only one or girls on top

Does the group in question need to still exist ;_;

Just going through my playlist and eyeballing stuff that I think was in the last few years, then checking to see when it was uploaded to youtube to confirm.

edit: Hey, it's one week away from being Bing Bing's 4 year anniversary!

Love Options - check

It's funny, the other day I was thinking about what I thought some of the best kpop songs might be, and I realized that I probably couldn't narrow it down to less than a couple dozen or so. Then I decided to see how many songs I could come up with if in addition to the [good song] criterion I also added [no Engrish] and [no "rapping"]* and Love Options was the only thing I could come up with. It's really an awesome song. Also, sing-rapping like they do in the second verse actually sounds really cool and people should do it more often.

*nothing wrong with rapping, but the crap in kpop songs is obviously terrible. 'Rapper' is some stupid position they put into groups to cover for the inevitable member that can't sing for shit.

I have yet to do my list, but people should google the meaning of essential.

Just a starting point: favourite =/= essential
?
As with the old list, I guess we're aiming to compile a list of K-pop GAF favourites. They don't have to be huge hits (although they often are). They can also be songs that are less widely appreciated but are nevertheless beloved by the people in this thread. They don't necessarily have to be restricted to the most mainstream idol groups or soloists either.

While it's meant to be a list of MVs that this thread collectively thinks is must-watch material, I think to some extent, it does comes down to personal preference, to favourites.

I dunno. At the end of the day, just pick some great tunes and we'll see what gets the most nominations. :)

According to bizenter, Cube is actually at very high risk following 4minute's disbandment and their rookies' lack of results

The article says that if beast goes to the army, cube will probably go bankrupt seeing they're the only money maker for now

The article says that beast's results in Japan are far from being enough, and that btob won't be able to make up for the loss of 4m and beast

Investors panicked after disbandment

Cube's Golden Rule
Hong has always sacrificed 4Minute's success and profits for the good of Hyuna. The disbandment was Hong / Hyuna creating chaos, as it has always been.

HyunA and JiYoon to release their own solo albums (Nov 30, 2009)
"They just need to focus on the group"
"i think its wayyyyyyyyy too soon for them"

Jiyoon is not getting a solo debut (June 21, 2010)
"I had a hunch from the beginning that it was going to basically be hyuna+4"

"Since their debut, 4minute makes only 1 comeback each year in the industry. You need more than 1 comeback a year to spread their name out"

"4Minute really does have a lot of talent, but they waste it on emphasizing HyunA rather than the whole group"

"They keep promoting Hyuna. This is one of the reasons why 4minute aren’t gaining so much International fans because not everyone is going to like Hyuna"

"Cube needs to get their crap together and get a new comeback for 4Minute and stop only showcasing HyunA"

"it sad to see all the other members get pushed to the side so Hyuna can have all the attention."

"HyunA. She could practically not even try, but she will get the Solo deal and the whole group goes down"

"The unfair treatment is so obvious as HyunA always get to have the spotlight and this makes me feel bad for the other 4 members more"

I wish I knew how to turn off this bot. I'm pretty sure that no matter what the causes for it happening, the rest of us have accepted the reality that 4minute is dead and we're simply moving on. I guess the ignore list will have to do.

Thanks for the reminder that another Hyuna solo is due soon.

Also I'm struggling to hit 30 for the Essentials list. After Miniskirt, BBB, Glue and Love Options I feel like I've hit a wall. If I don't come up with anything can I at least ask we replace Heart Attack with Miniskirt? No No Eul please.

There are currently two votes for Heart Attack and one for Miniskirt. I haven't done my list yet but I'd probably also vote for Heart Attack, sorry. :p

#teamMiniskirt

Even though I feel Short Hair perfected the formula and I do enjoy Heart Attack more, I feel like Miniskirt was a defining moment and turning point in AOA's career. It's also their choreography peak (floor work at the beginning and butt rubbin during the chorus are fanservicey, but also iconic).

But I won't be mad if Heart Attack wins.

Shouldn't we use one of the best answer to the poll for the last year awards for the question "Most discussed thing" for the new title?

|OT7| Everyone in K-Pop GAF is a Kfapper

I'm joking, but still, this was definitely the funniest answer, lol.

Nah, it can be really bad and cloying, see: AOA and many other groups with constipated-sounding rappers, but at its best it's its own great thing. T-ara sort of set the gold standard for k-pop rapping - not emulating a hip hop sound, but adding an interesting texture to the song. You need to sound tight and not affect a shitty drawl, though.

struggling for 30? bruh do you even like kpop?

There are plenty of songs that I've loved from the last 4 years but narrowing it down to 30 ESSENTIAL tracks is like...what do I cut? Songs that I know are considered essential but I don't like?
Apink basically
I could happily have like 5 or 6 songs from a single group but does that kind of defeat the point? I'm too indecisive about these things.

Screw it, I'm just gonna list a bunch of AOA tracks and call it a day.

Well there are a couple Hoody tracks that had better gotten votes from more than me, Peru, and jongkookie. ;)

Not that I wish to throw jongkookie under a bus or anything, but I think he may have forgotten to vote for a certain someone. :p

There's still time to go back and edit your list, kookie. ;)

I have to get back home and have a look, but I'm on eldren's camp, I don't think I can get to 30 tracks that I can consider essential. I could put my fanboy glasses and put every 9muses, dal shabet and kara release, but I don't it adds anything to the playlist.

The great thing about the classic playlist is that it's super tight, no extra fat.

Essential for llehuty

(I took a broader definition of "essential", picking 31 tracks from the past 4 years that would give new listeners to K-Pop a broad overview of the musical styles, visuals, and performances that are on offer. I could have narrowed it down to an absolute crème de la crème (which would be even more subjective than my list of 31), but why limit it that way when that restricts options for the new listener)

There's still time to go back and edit your list, kookie. ;)
By the way, how do you edit? When I click on the link again, I get a blank form.

LOL.

I intentionally left k-rnb out since there's like only 5 of us who listen to k-rnb in the entire thread so I was thinking it wasn't "essential" but now that this has been brought up... I'll definitely edit my list.

I've got 6 spots left so I'm definitely gonna add some k-rnb in those.

lol I just made my list excitedly flipping through songs like...

*Red Velvet Dumb Dumb*
I C O N I C

*Girl's Day Darling*
I C O N I C

*Hyusung Good-Night Kiss*
I C O N I C

*Wa$$up Stupid Liar*
I C O N I C

"Hmm, I should include some guys, too..."

*Seventeen Mansae*
I C O N I C

*Block B Her*
I C O N I C

etc, etc.

Wow I didn't realize F.CUZ' song Midnight Sun is already nearly 6 years old. :I
It's one of my personal 'classics' but I guess it's not general list-worthy. I actually feel that way about a couple of choices, in fact a number of my choices are just about '4 years old' well.. I guess I'll just submit my list of 30 because I'm sure at least some of my votes will impact the list somewhat.

Should I vote Number 9 or Sugar Free for T-ara though. 🤔

Edit: Looking at the preliminary list... I think 9Muses' most iconic song is News like... No contest. That song is too damn good. For Seventeen I think Adore U is a better representation as well. Surprised to see Nu'est there, didn't think they were discussed much here, but perhaps they should be there with a different song... We'll see how my choice impacts that lmao. (I'll submit it later)

Man, I REALLY need to stop watching Heroes of Remix every week, because it's basically made it impossible for me to give the slightest shit about Korean music show special stages at this point. What the hell is even this show's budget?

I don't want this to be an eternal back and forth discussion in a quite personal matter, but I only agree with Hyosung and Block B. The others, I don't see it.

Darling has to be the most forgettable single they have released. Also, I don't remember seeing anyone praising that song. (But then again you like Hairy).

I enjoy Stupid liar, but is such a no event. It's like if we put Pritz on there, no relevant enough despite being a solid song.

I have no opinion on Red Velvet, but I thought Ice Cream cake was the one that gets more love in here (and has less cringey rap).

As for Seventeen, Adore U is the superior pick, the verses in Manse are super boring, but I don't even know if there is anything essential about it.

Hmmm good question. When you submit your response and you're taken to the page that says 'Your response has been recorded', there's a link that allows you to edit your answers. However, unless you bookmarked that link at the time, I'm not sure there's any way of retrieving it.

I think the easiest thing to do is to fill out the form again with your new answers and then I'll delete the first one. I'll PM you your original answers.
