It still sounds strange to me, it is not that long since the game was cancelled. They introduced lots of stuff since then. I cant believe it really well tested and balanced.

Ghost, I know what happened, still it is strange a game gets such a graphics overhaul plus the introduction of completely new gameplay elements in such a short time.

Theres no new gameplay elements as far as i know, they added the horse and the massive battlefield so they could do the whole "look at 1000's of AIs fighting" thing, theres no graphical overhaul either, just more details, touches and effects

Horse, wide open environments, 1000 enemies, different AI, that sounds a lot like new gameplay elements to me. Especially those battles need different AI, physics etc.
The game I played last year at GC (2004 E3 version) had a completely different feel.
And the graphics look like they are more or less new. Just look at the polygon count of the trees and the quality of the grass. Its mostly new models, new effects like different fur etc. etc.
Just look at the texture on the path, changes like this usually need a complete redesign from ground up. Just adding some polys here ore there usually result in graphics like we see in PDZ, which at heart looks this gen.
