Kanye West says his new album will be a permanent Tidal exclusive

Jesus what a egotistical group of people. Nothing but gigantic names in the music industry (and mostly not for their quality imo), it's like it's just a elitist group of artist trying to push something in the name of music (aka money to them at this point) while trying to push a mediocre product that was doomed from the start. Not to mention has been caught doing shady business practices to try to get people to use it.
This whole locking music exclusively to a paid subscription digital app is sad, don't care who does it, it should be shunned. Music is about expression and trying to say something, to unify people not to alienate them by starting to do stuff like this.

This is a bizarre rant.

I don't/wont use Tidal, but I'm not gonna pretend to know how people should treat their own art - especially art I clearly have no interest in.

I mean fuck man, do you hate private art collections? You losing sleep over the millions of albums that already exist in forms you have absolutely no access to?

The music business is soooooo shitty and corrupt I can't imagine drawing the line here if I gave it more than 2 minutes of thought.

Are we witnessing Kanye's breakdown? He's being weirder than usual these past few days.

yiss

Na because the right people treat their music the right way. While I'm fine with stuff being private this is putting a private section to an already private show so many barriers you don't even care if people see it or not if they don't pay up. The music industry isn't all bad and could be fixed by these exact people that are some of the biggest names in the industry right now but instead they are making it worse.

You should throw away your copy of Halo 5 if it bothers you that much.

I don't really see why you care ethically and honestly your explanation sounds like you don't fully understand what Tidal even is or how it works compared to other services.
*shrug* enjoy your righteous indignation I guess.

Why does everyone hate Tidal so much? Just because of the cringy marketing? The price? Haven't heard anyone even mention the service.

First time using a music streaming service (signed up to listen to Ye's album) and I don't really have any complaints about Tidal. It works perfectly on all my devices.

The fact that it's basically just a more pretentious and expensive version of Spotify, even though there's nothing there to justify the higher price point. The music quality isn't that different from what you get on Spotify Premium (unless you own very advanced headphones, which most normal people don't).

Its the same with people used to Netflix not signing up to Hulu or people used to Steam not using other services. Im so used to Spotify Im not gonna switch over for one album and I dont feel like paying for more than one music service. It's simple capitalism.

They entered late into a streaming service with a higher price than the competition, and tried to make it seem like they were the "little guy" fighting "the man" with very terrible marketing. It ended up backfiring completely; anybody with a working brain could see right through their bullshit campaign, and the exclusive that they were pitching (higher quality audio) isn't really noticeable to the general public.

Bad first impressions can last a lifetime (hello there, XBone), and they're now trying to play catchup with everyone else. Tidal probably has a very good service (I wouldn't know, I don't use it), but they did a TON of damage to themselves in the beginning.

Spotify is known to have a terrible business model for artists though, and we know in what way it fucks artists over because of the sony leak:

Definitely true and it's one of the reasons why I'm personally not a big fan of Spotify and it's the main thing Tidal has over Spotify (for now), but most people don't care about that. They just want to listen to music and Tidal will lose that battle every time. The media campaigns and stuff like this don't help it either, it really creates the feeling that Tidal is just a way for the musical elite to assert their superiority.

Yeah, ok, I will sign up to Tidal because I can't get your album anywhere else on the internet...

Don't force me to consume your product from a particular source. Just make it available everywhere, otherwise I will find other means to get what I want.

While I think having it exclusive to Tidal is bad, that does not excuse piracy. If a game doesn't appear on Steam, but is exclusive to Origin, would you pirate it also?

You are not being forced, you just want to listen to it. You could also chose not to listen to it (as I am doing, because I don't feel like signing up to another music service).

To the first part of your post, the F2P Halo in Russia really showed how gamers feel about entitlement.

oddly enough I enjoy halo 5 a lot so don't understand where that comes from and way to be off topic.
dont really see what tidal is doing all that differently from other service rather than higher quality of music (but it comes with a price) it's reason to exist is almost unjustified. It's just being lead by some of the biggest names in the industry and that's not much of a good thing. Not like they understand what everybody wants only people like them, other really big names. Notice all the artist shown in that commercial see any smaller artist?

Edit: also I care ethnically because I care about music and don't want it to all become something people put out just to make money.

Bear in mind that Origin and Steam have the same price entry point, so it's not really an ideal example that you're using.

So, it's permanently exclusive to The Pirate Bay?

I know, he means legally available, but the album has already shot to the #1 spot on the infamous public torrent music list.

It probably would be there even without these shenanigans, but seriously, don't make it harder to buy music.

Also, Kanye, you don't get to say who gets to talk about your music.

Plus, you can play Steam and Origin games offline and for most big releases you can at least buy a physical version in a store. If there was a game streaming service you'd have to pay 20 bucks (or more) per month to use and, let's say, CD Projekt Red suddenly announced that they're releasing The Witcher 4 exclusively on that service and that you can never buy it anywhere else or play it without logging in to that service then you would have a good comparison. Luckily games haven't reached that point yet.

You guys realise that theres a lower tier subscription? Oh, its not free lol.

Personally I like the service and the apps.

Additionally it looks and works better than the competing services i've tried. (Spotify, Deezer).

Some albums are more expensive then others. The album is easily available, I don't see why people act like pirating is ok for this.

I think its a stupid move from him, but whatever. Pay the 10 bucks and see how it is if you want to listen to it.

Lmao like someone is going to join a subscription service for 1 album.
How many people subscribed to HBO for just Game of Thrones. Or Netflix for a show they want to see. Exclusives are a good selling point for these services, but not the only thing available of course.

But it has the same price.

So piracy is OK if a service has "run it course", whatever that means? Can we also download Quantum Break when it comes out in the Windows 10 Store, since a lot of people think that will never take off also.

Quantum Break will be available on two different platforms, both digitally and physically. Not really a fair comparison.
Tidal is a desperate attempt at creating something similar to iTunes and Spotify. I don't know anyone who is using Tidal, and everyone pretty much shot it down in the media after it's reveal.

I have yet to see a physical PC offer for the game, but maybe that will come still.

You might think it is a desperate attempt (I also don't use it), but I don't think it is fair to say "well, you don't put a product on the service I like, so now I have the right to pirate it." You are not forced to buy the album.

Of course, i agree with your statement about not having the right to pirate anything simply because it's not available on a preferred platform etc. I was merely pointing out that the comparison didn't quite sit right with me.
