Kanye West says his new album will be a permanent Tidal exclusive

I stand by my opinion that the dude seems off and has a childlike mentality.

Again i don't hate him but seems like i will never going to listen to this album then.

Time to listen to the college dropout again.

Okay I give up, that Twitter account is actually parody right?
The man is officially facing some midlife crisis. He's clearly having a breakdown from the series of events. He has his hands and mind on too many aspects of his life, and cannot handle it. Even DJ Khaled can handle success better than Kanye right now. He is looking desperate and losing touch with things, and either is having the time of his life making posts like that, or has crossed the point of no return and is just spewing shit. Someone help the brotha out.

Jay Z must be the only one helping him out if he is making his album Tidal exclusive. Probably paying him 8 figures for it, and he is liking it.

That or the man has no sense of business and the harsh reality of not knowing business has kicked in, and now he is dying for someone to invest in his ideas and prospects and upcoming products. Should've stuck to music.

So piracy is OK if a service has "run it course", whatever that means? Can we also download Quantum Break when it comes out in the Windows 10 Store, since a lot of people think that will never take off also.

What does that have to do with piracy?

I love Windows 10 but AAA games aren't what's needed for it and I say this owning a Surface Pro wishing for it to flourish simply to get more and better touch based apps on it.

Is he really in debt? This feels like he's doing this shit just to stir things up for his album

I personally believe he has invest a lot of money in his ideas and clothing line, and his wife's ideas and projects. He sees Jay Z and is trying to be Jay Z by diversifying. Is he in debt, as in negative? No. Has he spend $53 million? Possibly. He probably is having a hard time seeing a return for his ventures, and probably never had any outside investments helping him out. He burned a few bridges lately by dissing big corps endorsing him and may be trying to rectify it. Or maybe the people he has surrounded himself with are just giving him bad advices lately and making him forget what he is actually worth.

Kanye should be worth $100M+ by now if he isnt already. Him and his wife should be worth double of it altogether.

So yeah, maybe he is just talking about all the investments he has spend on, combined. Of course everyone trying to invest in an idea or business will spend millions to make millions.

Thank you. I'm curious to see how Kanye builds a business case.... Fee likes the Homer Simpson methodology:

1) make album
2) tweet stupid things
3) put it on tidal
4)????
5) profit

Probably a bit of both. Lack of interest in his new album and financial difficulties. People massively over estimate how much money there is in the music industry for artists and his investments in clothes were likely just people trying to get him to spend his cash on them.

By the end of next month he'll probably announce it on iTunes/Amazon plus the inevitable CD release.

But hey if he wants to fuck himself over who are we to stop him.

He'll talk about piracy and then, because of that, how people clearly aren't ready for him to "change the way music is experienced." Then, a week later, it will finally show up for purchase on other platforms.

People also underestimate how much money it costs an artist to record an album, because that's expensive as fuck.

If you sign up for Tidal and turn off the automatical renewal you get it free for a month. I'm doing it with the "HiFi" version so not the worst thing in the world.

Out of curiosity, would downloading the songs and playing them past the subscription period bepiracy?

I don't think so, you would just not have the license to listen to the music, but if they are in your hard drive and DRM free, then you're pretty much allowed to continue to listen do them despite no longer being subscribed to Tidal.

Piracy would be if you decided to start distributing the songs to other people. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I love Kanye's music, but this stunt has completely turned me off anything he'll be putting out. I've been looking forward to listening to this album, but being a Tidal exclusive turns me off. Honestly, any album being exclusive to a service turns me off. God, the music industry is going to shit right now because of bullshit like this. 😒

Kanye needs some help right now.

Considering he's trying to get into other industries like fashion this comment isn't surprising.

That said, I wish he (and many other celebrities) would take after his "big brother" Jay-Z, put the damn phone down, and keep your ramblings to yourself and your close circle of friends. It's not like Kanye and other artists we all listen to don't have ramblings/rants like this from time to time, but prior to Twitter/Instagram we didn't have to be subjected to them regularly on the internet and US media/news sources. Everyone going "I miss the old Kanye" are kidding themselves if they think he wasn't always like this prior to people being able to share their thoughts with the entire planet 24/7.

This is why Kanye is right when he called himself the biggest rock star in the world. Nobody in the music industry makes headlines like Kanye. Nobody is acting like a bigger star, pissing people off and delighting them in equal measure. Even though I don't really listen to his stuff, I totally appreciate that the guy is larger than life and is entertaining. Yeah, he crosses the line sometimes but so did just about every other legendary musician, which is how he sees himself. If anyone can make this Tidal thing work, its Kanye.

I'll pirate a copy and burn it to a disc so I can throw it directly into the garbage.

Omfg, lol.

Yeah, that's really not happening anytime soon. And being honest, kanye's relevancy outside of america is quite overestimated. He's not the rockstar you think he is.

He's pretty huge in the UK. He headlined Glastonbury, which is about as big as it gets over here. But yeah, he won't singlehandedly make Tidal a success, but I imagine there are lot of people who only know of it because of Kanye, and its already sent downloads of the app through the roof. Now its up to Tidal to retain those people who only joined because of Kanye.

artists of Kanye's caliber don't care about piracy

you are deluding yourself if you think that they do

they will make their hundreds of millions and go on living just fine knowing very well some 15 year old kid is very likely downloading their album illegally right now

Your point works when Taylor Swift knows that her 4 million bite, from the 40 million dollar slice comes from a potentially 400 million dollar pie, but Kanye just deliberately licked Jay Z's frosting and pushed the pie off the windowsill straight into a a Hobo's bindle.

I don't think he's in debt. Not to that extent. That seems like it's "just" the amount he has personally invested. This tweet last night gave it a little more context:

KANYE WEST ‏@kanyewest 9 hours ago
perhaps a fashion group will cover the 53 that I’ve invested over the past 13 years…

PSA: You can listen to 30 seconds of each track on Tidal without signing up.

I just did that, don't feel like I'm missing anything.

Kanye isn't a rock star, he is a manipulative egomaniacal nihilist capitalist with delusions of grandeur and genius who is pretty good at making music.
