Rap sensation KANYE WEST has hit out at white musicians who try to sound black, insisting artists should stick to what they do best.

West confesses to a diverse listening taste and is even a fan of British rocker FRANZ FERDINAND. He says, "I hate music where white people are trying to sound black. The white music I like is white.

"I like Franz Ferdinand. That's the sh*t."

He said this on the Jonathan Ross show in the UK which Franz Ferdinand happened to be performing on. Coming soon - Kanye West: "White people should only eat white bread"

Music is for everyone. There's no such thing as "black music" or "white music"

This is the same site that said Shirley Bassey was angry that he used a sample from Diamonds are Forever ( that he hadn't cleared the use. Come on, samples are his life, and he wouldn't clear the use for the single he released?) So, I'll believe it when more sites pick it up, or at least a credible one.

I think it's a good point. He's trying to say that if you're white and you TRY to sound black, just don't. If you're white and you sound black, don't try to sound white. Just try to sound like yourself or something.

GO KAYNE WEST!!! GEORGE BUSH DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PPL!!!!!

ok kanye, and black people shouldn't use horns or strings or any instrument invented by white people.

I didn't know that Linkin Park's music was black. Although I do know that they suck....

I DONT NOE WHY
IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER HOW HARD U TRY.

^

I guess you forgot about that?

I'll back him in this ridiculous, racist idea if in return he just raps and never fucking speaks again because now instead of just enjoying his music I have to think about what a retard the man is.

Seriously, I picked up Late Registration and I love it. It's an absolutely great album. But the stuff this guy says outside of his music is ridiculous.

I can't think of a single modern musical form that doesn't have black roots.

"...and we owe it all to Kanye West!"

But we are. ^_^

Problem is Americans suck. So I have to look to Europe for good metal music.

Black people should stop letting White people market Black music to White people.

I propose we also institute White Money and Black Money, just so we can ensure that white people aren't taking away from the black people.

Also - Black celebrities should make more noise about the plight of Africans.

I'm sick of hearing Bono and Angelina Jolie go on about poverty and hunger. Where's 50 Cent? Where's P. Diddly?

And just so you know - there isn't a :P icon large enough for Kanye West. :lol

Black roots and rap, hip-hop are two different things.

Blues is black music, rock is black music, country is black music (albeit disowned :lol), the list goes on--most modern artforms other than metal (very euro-classical inspired) are "black music."

Is blues hip hop? What about rock (well before the 90's anyway), country, metal? No.
Hip hop is a continuation, an expirement of black music if you will. But it's not traditional black music, in the classic sense. When Kanye West says he doesn't want people to do black music, he's basically telling Eminem, Linkin Park, Everlast, and all of those stupid nu metal groups to shut up. And he has a good point. He's not saying "eliminate the bass guitar from rock!"

Classical music is more directly the inspiration of heavy rock. Listening to something like Vivaldi's "Summer" makes that pretty obvious. Although you don't even have to listen to classical to know that rock is its contemporary form.

Edit: Scratch "Summer". Make that the entire 40-minute feature.

He's a fucking idiot.

Tell this to the black lead singer of Killswitch Engage. Last I checked, metal wasn't black music.
What a douche. Go make more shitty rap you loudmouth.

Dude, what about black metal? Wait...

I don't really understand what he means by this...The Beatles, for example, were a band that wanted to "sound black". Same goes for a band like the Talking Heads (who were all about appropriating African and soul music for their own ends), and to a lesser extent, even Franz Ferdinand try to sound black. I guess what Kanye's talking about is white people trying to sound like, well, Kanye, which I guess wouldn't be too great. I can't think of too many people who fit that description though...

I must not be very familiar with older music. How do rock and metal sound black? Which black bands and whatnot were the inspiration for modern rock and metal?

He does not have a good point. Especially when you consider that white people had quite the part in defining the sound of early hip hop. You know, Rick Ruben? Isn't the guy who raps in Linkin park japanese? The Rza says way to go to them. He calls it the new America. One where more of us have grown up together, since segregation is a thing of the past and it's only natural that genres blend. Run DMC did it in the 80's. Kanye is a fucktard, and I wish people would stop giving him credit for being one. Yeah, nu metal tends to have some horrible rap sections, but you know what? So does the whole of Mainstream rap music. Kanye's ideas are antiquated. he's like suck in the public enemy era of thought but he has nothing intelligent to say.

WTTTF...Is this real???

When he HAS A SONG ON HIS ALBUM WITH:

..

Serously, Paul Wall sounds more like a stereotypical black man than I do.

Very well said.

Again. No it's not. Rock is a derivative of classical music.

I'm not sure how you can say that.

Ever listen to Bo Diddley? He was, probably, the first rock and roll artist ever - and almost all his songs are based in the blues.

Elvis Presley - the man to bring rock to the mainstream - was versed in blues and gospel from the day he was born.

Rock = blues + gospel + soul + edge

Unless you are saying blues is a derivative of classical music, then, I don't know what you are saying.

Elvis-era 'rock n' roll' is very much derivitave of early blues, but modern rock is quite different. Think of Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven'. Does this have more in common with blues or classical? Same goes for any number of other rock ballads or songs in major or minor keys.

It could be said that blues was influenced by the music of China because of the common use of the pentatonic scale.

None of this really matters to me, though. Good music is good music. Endy story.

Staiirway To Heaven is more classical folk shiz, but Zeppelin was largely blues based. Same goes for Clapton and nearly everyone else.

"Again. No it's not. Rock is a derivative of classical music."

Alpha, I'm going to save you a big verbal onslaught from yours truly if you don't post that ever again.

ZOMG LIKE IF U TRY AND RYHME UR CONSIDERED RAPPING!? :lol :lol

Actually, you know what, black people should make black music and white people should make white music.

Living Colour would be billionaires if so!

I hope someone interviews Paul Wall on his take on Kanye's statement. What a hypocritical douche.
