Kena developers on stealing the internet's heart and making the most of PS5

I didn't say there was an issue; I just think it's really sort of hilarious to create merch for a game based on a single trailer being shown. A $90 Cosplay outfit? Borderlands has sold 10s of millions.

That combined with a near complete lack of real info on the game makes them come across kind of grifter-y to me. Also.. they aren't game devs...

It reminds me of a Kickstarter project that has a snazzy video presentation but no product experience.

edit: FWIW I'd happily be wrong here and they produce a great game, I have 2 PS5s.. but at this point, don't even really know what this game is outside of a few snippets of actions.

You think merch gets made after a game goes platinum?
Your business acumen sounds really really low and/or whatever hateboner youve got for this game is making you sound really silly.

The fuck even is this comment? lol

And I don't have a hate boner for the game.. hard to have a hate boner for 10 seconds of gameplay footage.

Your posts say otherwise.
No his posts just say that he isn't business savvy.

Technically he didn't come into the thread hoping for the game to bomb/fail. Nearly everyone here is taking a wait and see approach.

Honestly curious what you guys think I said that indicates I lack business savvy.

But you are right; I'm just skeptical of this game.. I want it to be good, I want every game to be good.. but also don't get people pre-ordering it or hyping it, which many do.

It’s sublimely beautiful, yes, but I’m also very skeptical about gameplay depth and overall interactivity.
It's probably smart to be skeptical of the game until we see a full play session. It's a first-time developer, and we've only seen a few portions of areas (a town, a hillside, a kind of misty wasteland, and a cave) of the game.

But there is also stuff to like about the gameplay in the footage shown, beyond just the artstyle. (And the artstyle is almost undeniable IMO, though there's been some pushback here about that too.) I really like how the Rot characters become part of your combat approach (they form your projectiles, they act to antagonize or incapacitate the enemy, they can replicate attacks so that your bow strikes become multi-projectiles, looks like you can cluster them into a giant attack-pet as a bomb,) and then the way Kena climbs ledges and spin-jumps when platforming makes it look a lot like what I imagine a Jak & Daxter Precursor Legacy sequel could have been this gen if Naughty Dog was still dong those.

Watch the State of Play and Future Games Show videos (there's way more than 10 seconds of footage, BTW, so whoever said that can knock it off,) it's specifically the gameplay that has me seeing promise once I'm done getting eyeful of fuzzy Ghibli creatures...

I'm being hyperbolic.. but we have a bunch of 2-5 second clips of anything resembling gameplay.

There's no actual footage of.. like a gameplay session, to know much of anything about how the game actually plays.

So another way to put it.. we don't even have a 10 second straight clip of gameplay.

always chasing the next thrill
Nintendo’s entire portfolio is literally kids games and everyone loves it but when Sony seemingly does one it’s “oh no, don’t do that to me”. If I had to choose, I’ll take this over violence-depression porn that is TLOU II and such.
Wrong 🤣🤣🤣

All my hype deflated when I knew most of what have been shown is prerendered, it was too good to be true....
