Kick ass cool cell phones?

Status

I've decided to take interest into a cell phone and I'd really like something cool, but not spending over like 225 for one (I don't use phones enough to wear I'd really give a shit how bad ass it is). Cool and gadgety!

Aside from Belding, everyone will love this phone.

It's probably over that budget you specified, but come on, I guarantee at least one hot Asian girl will sex with you just for owning it!

I handled one before it was released at Digital Life here in NYC. It was clearly the Belle of the ball. Nice phone.... very sleek, sexy. If you dig Tron, you'll dig this phone.

Let's face it folks: the reason we get cell phones to feel like we're on Star Trek. Fact!

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
I have a SE T616 and a Motorola flip phone w/ a fraction of the features. I love the bluetooth ability of the Sony, but use the Motorola exclusively because it's a flip phone.

So my next phone will be a SE flip w/ BT and a loud-ass speaker phone, if they exist.

I want the Razr so bad.

I'd like the razr, but honestly, if they made a (cheaper) stripped down model with just the basic functions...I'd buy it in an instant.

Beautiful phone, great reception, HUGE external display that allows for awesome picture caller ID. Decent ringtones, but huge screen, extremely light, and very slick looking. You could probably find it for about $200

Ditto - I don't need the camera or MPEG4 playback crap, although that they shoved so many features in such a thin package is technically very impressive.

That's the thing -- there are phones you can get for next to nothing that have most of Razr's features. The price is unreasonable, especially given the subsidy you normally get when committing to a contract.

You're not paying for the features, you're paying for the size.

Kinda thick, no?

Compared to that crazy motorola yes, but it is a tiny phone. I am a huge fan of Nokia's in general, I just find them to be more user friendly then other phones. Not a big fan of Motorola phones anymore though.

The 6230 packs a lot of features too. Takes both pictures and videos, has video playback (though why anyone would watch a movie on their phone is beyond me), mp3, bluetooth, the works. :D

I like Nokias too - they tend to have really good signal strength across the board. My old Nokia brick I have now gets far better reception than the nicer designed Motorola flip-phone I once owned...until my little cousin sat on it. That and my Nokia is like a tank, it's slid across so many concrete driveways and smashed into so many things only to come out working perfectly. Think I'll stick with it for now...

If your on a budget then I would recommend this phone which was previouxly mentioned. According to reviews its the best in its class.

The Razr is so sweet.
It will be mine, one day..

I think you're paying more for the build quality (e.g. all metal alloy, laser-etched touchpad, etc.) than anything. It's slim but not much thinner than other cellphones out there..

MusicMoto MS350

Motorola’s new 1.3 megapixel cameraphone that’s designed specifically for listening to MP3s and that has 128MB of internal memory and dedicated buttons on the front so you can pause or skip tracks without having to actually flip open the phone.

What type of phone do I need to get to be able to browse the "real internet" on it? What does it actually look like on such a small screen? Anyone have any pics?

Treo 600 or Treo 650.

If you want to really browse the net, I'd recommend a blackberry. They're more than the range that you've set, but I don't think you can find a phone that does basic business-level stuff plus browsing the net for cheaper. Plus, it's small and easy to use.

Nah, unless you want to pluck out your eyes waiting for the content to download, you want something that supports EVDO or EDGE.... and has a better browser... .and supports opera mobile.

All the better stuff I've seen is usually either palm-based or too big to comfortably fit in your pocket. What phones are you referrring to?

I also freely admit I'm biased because I know several people who have blackberries and they all function really well for what we need them for. I don't know anyone who uses a smartphone or PDA-based phone at all, and the ones I've used in stores are clunky and unintuitive (to me).

The nice thing about Nokia's is that they're built pretty sturdy. You can bludgeon people to death with them. You couldn't do that with that paper thin Motorola.

I tend to like smaller phones though since I actually take care of my crap.

Yes the Treos are Palm based (and the 600s can be had new between $300 and $350). I could look clearly at the SE900 or some of the other Symbian OS phones (Moto A290, BenQ P30, Sendo X - which REALLY kicks ass, or any of Nokias communicators) and see great web browsing phones with large screens. There are plenty PocketPC phones which are great as well. The Blackberry phones are EXPENSIVE to own. Great if you don't have to pay the bill for them though.

The phones I can think of off the top of my head, Blackberry, Treo, and Sidekick.

I currently have a Sidekick, but I'm looking on a getting a new phone. Here are my main requirements

-Bluetooth compatibility
-Real Internet Browsing
-Some sort of QWERTY keypad.

My provider is T-mobile, so I'm seriously considering this phone:

I'm still researching though and open to more suggestions

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Here's what I posted in the other thread. The Treo phones are small enough to easily/comfortably fit in your pocket, yet are packed with features, use a stylus/touchscreen UNLIKE the Blackberry (they just use a scrollwheel), and have a FULL QWERTY keyboard...none of that "two letters per key" crap. ;)

I browse GAF all the time on this:

Treo 600
photo_treo600.jpg

These smartphones may be expensive, but they pay for themselves in my eyes. I can get full web access, e-mail, free instant messaging (just download AOL IM...no fees!), listen to music (you can also use MP3s as ringtones), watch movies (you can compress entire DVD movies into small 100mb files and store them on an SD card!), play games (Emulators are the best...NES, Gameboy, and Game Gear), use most palm OS5 apps, take pictures, etc. No reason to upgrade to a new phone anytime soon, either. There is a new model, the Treo 650, about to be released, but it just adds Bluetooth and a higher res screen...nothing else is different. That may mean that the 600 price will drop soon too.

I looked at the Blackberrys before I got this phone last year, but the Treo is the better phone with all the features that it offers. I got the phone from Sprint, and it's just one flat fee for unlimted internet usage, compared to the Blackberry retailer's (AT&T in this case) crappy monthly limit internet option.

I know that most people aren't like this, but if you're the type that keeps wanting to upgrade to a new phone every few months, just shell out the cash for a smartphone and you won't feel the need to anymore. The guy I work with has gone through like five phones in the past year...he could have had a Treo by now.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm most interested in the Sidekick so far.

The sidekick2 is not a bad device. If it has one unforgivable flaw, its that their developers haven't opened the platform for 3rd party development. You can't just install applications for the device at will (easily), but instead have to select from a paltry number of applications written for the device.
