Kid Icarus on GC in 2005? I think it's possible, find out why...

Kid Icarus appearing on Gamecube in 2005? I have a silly, speculative, but very possible feeling that it could happen.

Here's my theory:

1)Kid Icarus has been asked for in interview after interview with Miyamoto, thus NCL knows about gamer's desire for the product.

2)ex best friend turned good friend Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack has mentioned that his dream project would be to make a new Kid Icarus. Keep in mind that his previous dream project (which became a reality) was to make a Metal Gear game.

3)IGN will be visiting SK very shortly for an expose on why they left Nintendo, and just what SK has been doing since. Expect GC support and multiplatform releases (Too Human is likely to be multiplatform).

4)If SK is not making Kid Icarus, expect to see Dead Phoenix (from Capcom) rise from the grave and be resurrected as Kid Icarus - a new collaboration between Nintendo and Capcom. I actually think Dead Phoenix as Kid Icarus is the most likely scenario for a new Kid Icarus project.

That's it. Pure speculation yes, but not completely impossible either. Personally, the thought of SK bringing Kid Icarus to us brings tears to my eyes. Not good ones btw. I don't think it suits them, but what do I know. Maybe, if they are working on the project, they'll blow me away.

We've all heard about Dead Phoenix and how it was cancelled and put on hold etc... The director has made some vague comments about the game still being in development, and I wouldn't be surprised if Miyamoto went to Capcom and asked to convert Dead Phoenix to Kid Icarus.

Any thoughts on my speculative theory for Kid Icarus in 2005? I'd love to see Pit make a comeback!

Namco has learned very well that money flows when Nintendo franchises are attached, maybe Nintendo convinced Capcom of the same?

This post is ridiculous.

Anyway, why would Dead Phoenix have become Kid Icarus? The former is (was) a shooter, and the latter is a platformer.

From Ramirez, nothing surprises me anymore. But he has a point--who does care about the game aside from old-schoolers? Being an old man, I would LOVE to see a remake (fuck a sequel) but it would have to be hand-drawn, so I'm hoping the GBA releases at least a "Zero Mission" type makeover.

They both have wings, so...

And wasn't Silicon Knights working on next-gen projects (remember this)? Why would you expect GC support?

If Silicon Knights has any Nintendo plans, I'll be very surprised. Capcom or Namco will likely handle a Kid Icarus game if anything happens. Nintendo has a problem with making games these days.

Yup, Namco did really good with Donkey Konga and Star Fox.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, I think it's bad. EAD should make Kid Icarus and should take bad damaged franchises (Star Fox, for example). Nintendo needs to get support in other ways -- whoring out games is a bad idea.

how did you ever make it past junior member status? Baseless Speculation +1 Life wasted reading your list +1

I remember having dinner with some nintendo people a couple years back, and topic turned to kid icarus. I had always been in favor of a new KI game in some form for many years, but to my surprise, bill trinen was totally incredulous as to why people were asking/speculating about a new kid icarus game (as in, there's 100% no chance they were even thinking about doing one).

granted, this was a few years ago...but the IP has only gotten older since then.

So, if I'm understanding some of you - just because many people have never played Kid Icarus, that should mean that none of us should care? Very poor reasoning, honestly. That is to say that anything we have never played should not be appreciated, which is just ignorant.

To those that think this post is pointless, it's not as if I was trying to create a news item. I wanted to discuss the possibilities of Kid Icarus emerging and thought it would be fun to bring it up by speculating how it could happen. Sorry to those offended that I am not working for CNN. Never said I was.

I have recently found that the producer of Dead Phoenix denied it being retooled into Kid Icarus, but found that N-sider.com has a story about the possibilities of Dyack, Konami and Nintendo working on a new Kid Icarus. Some speculation on their part and heavy analysis of things Dyack has said left them with that impression. IE: Dyack referred to Kojima as Socrates and Miyamoto as Aristotle and n-sider made the correlation that Kid Icarus is based in Greek mythology and that Dyack had mentioned he'd like to remake Kid Icarus. They all connect, sure, but it's a little bit of a stretch. Interesting stuff though.

A new Kid Icarus in the vein of Metroid/Castlevania would be kickass! Fuck the haters - oldskool gaming is in and a lot of people still remember Kid Icarus/still love the oldskool NES. I never really liked the original back in the day but I'm all for reviving lesser known games, it is much cooler than most of the newer franchises (Jak and Daxter/Sly Cooper/Blinx, other generic platformers, etc)

Making a Metal Gear wasn't Dyack's lifetime dream! His lifetime dream was eating the World's Biggest Hoagie, and he did that at the state fair!

Well this is also the same forum, that thought bringing back a new Alex Kidd game was a dumb idea. I for one, hope that Nintendo brings back Kid Icarus, or let Capcom turn Dead Pheonix into Kid Icarus inspired game.

But Pit from Kid Icarus turns into an adult at the end of the game. Technically, he's not a 'kid' anymore. What, would they use his son or something?

OK. I've been seeing strong forms of speculation and desire for a new Kid Icarus since the 64N came out.

I know this is asking for nothing but pure pain, but can someone explain to me (as someone who's never played the first one) why there needs to be another Kid Icarus?
Because it's Nintendo!!!...
Thanks, I got that. Why else?

It's just like every old game that people enjoy that haven't seen sequels (or remakes >:() to in a while.

Panzer Dragoon Saga, NiGHTS, Alex Kidd, Wonderboy, etc...

You really had to have that explained to you?

I've seen every single one of these "rumors" posted here before lifted from other boards months ago and months ago before that. Did we REALLY need a new thread for this? Or a thread at all?

I think it's the sheer volume of demand that I'm looking for justification in, not the fact that it's there.

I don't know. I can't explain it properly but it feels like every other month for the past twenty years there's some thread on the internet somewhere or some online/print publication article with someone going on about how there needs to be another Kid Icarus.

Actually...wasn't there almost a Kid Icarus game for the Super Nintendo? I think I heard a while back that there was one in development. I think it got scrapped because it was around 1995 or 1996, and Nintendo just wanted to concentrate on N64 development. Can anybody confirm this?

There needs to be justification in a sheer volume of demand? People really, really want Mother 3. There's no pictures of it, but they've wanted a second sequel in the series for years now. They enjoyed Mother and (more likely) Mother 2, and wish to see more. Same with Kid Icarus and the others I've mentioned.

There doesn't need to be a gaming industry, period. People want the products though, and that's why the products are here. People say they need something as an exaggeration of how much they want the product.

Again, I really can't believe someone has to explain this to you.

Dude :lol

The counterargument I'd provide if I were answering my own question would be to present how no other games which haven't had a sequel in two decades need it as much as Kid Icarus does.

Well, I wouldn't say it needs it more than others in the past twenty years, but it'd make the most sense. Kid Icarus was a million seller on the NES (I think), and still has a pretty hardcore fanbase that really wants another one. I guess it can be best compared to the Mother series. NiGHTS, PDS, and the others I listed weren't as big saleswise (meaning less people had copies, meaning less people are asking for more- though NiGHTS still has a sizeable fanbase, I think). So I guess looking at it from a sales POV, it'd make sense, but I don't think anyone here is saying KI needs a sequel more than any other game.

Eggplant Wizard!!

Seriously though ... At its time of release, Kid Icarus was an awesome game. But that was due to a lack of quality titles early in the NES lifecycle. When you compare KI to some of the later side/vert-scrolling games that came out .. it is incredibly average.

Maybe one day we could get a fan-based graphic overhaul on the original game and released as a java game ... but I doubt anyone would waste 100's of hours doing such a thing.

I wish Capcom would release Dead Phoenix instead. I seen the video of it on Cinematic on G4 a couple of weeks ago, and it did look good.
