Why do you think Nintendo is so successful?

But that simply your taste, lot of people go crazy over Witcher 3 and RDR2 but I personally didn't like those games at all.

People like different things.
What's crazy is, I love me some W3, CP77 and RDR2, but hate every other open world game released in the last 5-10 years. Probably because they focus more on story and world building than all the rest. I didn't like It DR2 at first either, but that was a user error issue. I was trying to to play it as a western GTA. That's not what that was. RDR2 is western simulator.

It's a cult.

Other consoles have obsessive fanboys but they're the minority idiots.

...Nintendo fanboys are the majority who keep throwing money at them for regurgitated slop, year after year, decade after decade.

It's because their games are fun and there is no downtime.
You're constantly engaged with their gameplay but personally I just find their games filled with issues I can't ignore.
The stories their games tell just aren't for me anymore and the endless collectibles are like gacha games for me.
I appreciate the physics TOTK did but they did nothing with it and most tasks in the game didn't require much thinking behind it.

I'm going to go a different route and provide a controversial opinion:

Nintendo has the most overused IPs in the world. They don't let anything die, and sometimes stuff needs to die to make way for better/more interesting things. I don't care about Link and Zelda. It doesn't matter what retarded story you give us. It's the same people, same bad guys, over and over, and we know eventually you'll just reboot it again. And again. And again. Let Zelda and Link go the way of the dodo, and come up with something new. To anybody still buying Pokemon, what is wrong with you? Drop the Palworld lawsuit, and then drop Pokemon. It's overdone.

I honestly feel like the majority of people buying these same IPs over and over are doing it almost entirely out of nostalgia, and not because the games are awesome.

This isn't to say Nintendo doesn't do things well. They obviously do things very well. But their IPs are overused, and painfully so.
If you think anyone except morons care about Zelda's story, you're an idiot. People play Nintendo games for the gameplay, which is why people like Nintendo. They're pure video games, not trying to be movies.

I agree that Nintendo should develop more new ip - splatoon rocks, for example - but I also do not think they should let their core ip die.

People love Sony for the IPs of the past, for the most part (me included) so it's a bummer that we've got like, Horizon now they're pushing and some of the older core stuff like wipeout, twisted metal, etc are dead while Sony chased games as a service trash.

There's a balance here for sure.

They put gameplay and fun factor first, and their games ooze passion/soul/vision.

I mean, I own a PS5 Pro and just got a new gaming PC, but I still want a Switch 2 just because of how incredible DK Bananza looks.

Bayonetta, Astral Chain, Xenoblade, Pokemon, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Zelda, Metroid... Exclusive and unique heavy hitting titles.

I agree, Sony need to copy Nintendo and bring back all of those amazing IP's but realise there's no need to give them multi million dollar budgets.
They don't need full voice acting and huge cgi cutscenes. Use a template like Astro Bot which I just started last week and find to be one of my top five platformers, I just absolutely adore it.

Yep, exactly. Give us Twisted Metal Black at that level, wipeout, etc. it'd be amazing.

It depends on one's definition of successful. In money terms and how well the corp is run they're hard to beat.
But I miss the old Nintendo from the SNES, N64 and Cube era, that made proper highend under the TV consoles and console games

Now it's a handheld corp in all but name. Thanks to that and the same mammy and daddy look to their games, I've moved on...

I can't believe this whole Nintendo games are for kids, I'm an adult crap is still a thing. Sad when people would say it when they we're still a child. Even more so now. Anyone with kids will tell you that the ones most obsessed with appearing grown up are children. I love horror games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, same goes for movies but sometimes I am more than happy to watch Toy Story and enjoy it. I am married, children, decent job, and brother is a lawyer and we were talking about how awesome Bananza is. Then you will get some guy like my friend unemployed, living with his parents at 36 talking about how he can't play Nintendo games as they are for kids.

Because they focused unapologetically in what they're good. And because they know and care about their core market, the kind of products they make. Nintendo is a videogame company first and second. Wii could be the exception and it was one of its worst consoles. But again, an exception. And I'm not a Nintendo fan.

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves.

To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development.

When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

The Gamecube sold 1/5 what the Wii did and it had those games. It aint the exclusives that sell the hardware. Casuals do not investigate a console's library.
GCN had to compete vs og xbox and established af and full of quality exclusives ps2, it wasnt slop gen like current one, it had 3 fricken big gta games ffs, big entries, not some spin offs ffs, for comparision nowadays gta5 has lasted 3 generations of playstations ;)
In this current slop of a gen we got u take dreamcast and upgrade it to power of base ps5(which isnt hard at all in mid of 2025 since that mashine is from holidays 2020) and it smokes all other consoles .

lol similiar experience here, my best friend from school days is an actuary now with wife, kids, giant expensive house. A few decades ago half our fun of gaming was struggling to set up a LAN as teens without cars using any resources we had and milk cartons as chairs. So we're not idiots lol. Most his gaming now is Switch and occasionally old PC. We still have to dissect new Nintendo games like when we were kids taking carts to each others place with an extra controller. DK has been full of those "holy shit" moments. We had a mutual friend who moved out of the country last year (hint, he has no AC now), he couldn't afford DK right away and asked about the co-op. That ended up being our longest chat since he left, just chilling while exploring levels and talking about stuff. Again, not an idiot, he was in IT. He was BLOWN AWAY by the game.

We did Sega, PS and Xbox too. It's not like we existed in some vacuum of not being able to grow up and so never knew how anything else played. Nintendo is the only add-on to a PC that stood the test of time to us.

Yeah, imagine how I feel when my IRL friends are like this, then I come here and keyboard jockeys who sound like they don't bother playing it say something like "retarded people buying slop over and over", I wonder what they're compensating for.

I'd like to hear more about this in the Dreamcast 2 thread

Because they make consistently very good games. Good as in fun to play - that's what games are supposed to be. High production values, recognizable actors, cutting edge graphics, etc. etc. comes later. It's as simple as that.
