Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

Bungie have included this video in their weekly update. They also said that they are looking into how to make these deletions less permanent, but no indication that they will or can restore the kids lost characters.

It's a very tough lesson to learn, but I can think of a lot worse ways to learn not to trust strangers on the internet.

This is fucked up.

On the other hand, M.E. Chung in the news spotlight? Good for her! I went to college with her, taking a bunch of compsci classes alongside her.

I may be a monster but i laughed out loud reading the OP. It might just be my instinctual distaste for the entire concept of share play.

I'm sure the kid can have his crap restored.

How old is the kid? This pisses me the fuck off. As an older brother who bought all the systems and made profiles for my 3 brothers to have their own account this is nuts. The youngest used to lag behind us in levels because he had the least play time and would try to catch up. He probably would have been duped into something like this because of it. I'm on my own now but my 3 brothers have 3 different characters on destiny together. If this happened to me I wouldn't even be upset with him, I'd be upset they erased his profile though.

That was so incredibly sad when the kid was crying at the end.

People are fucking horrible. What a piece of shit that guy was to do that. All I can do is imagine if this was my son and all the hours that had gone into playing that game.

Seriously, this really upset me.

Seriously, why are people posting this?

Did everyone follow ESRB ratings as a kid? How about movie ratings? I know I didn't.

Sorry but you're talking nonsense. The ESRB rating exist for a lot of reasons and anyone that says it's useless is probably because don't have kids or are iresponsable parents IMO.

I have 3 kids and although i grew up ignoring ESRB rating in the past, specially because my parents didn't even know what was that, i will follow the rating for my kids for sure.

Wait. 11-year-old kid playing a T-rated game while being unsupervised, on the Internet, voice chatting with strangers, and recording a video stream that is shared with the public?

As a parent I feel bad for the kid, but why are the parents even allowing this situation to occur?

rant/
My thoughts exactly. Although my parent's allowed me to see/play some rather racy stuff as a pre-adolescent, I would never allow my daughter to experience things beyond her cognitive level. I lost my childhood innocence at a relatively early age thanks to multimedia exposure, and that's probably why my perceptions of society are so askew these days. I would never wish such Hell on my child.
/rant

Side note... the perpetrator should be lynched. Looking forward to see if Sony or Bungie steps-up to help the kid out.

That was hilarious, although it made me feel a bit terrible laughing at the kid's misfortune.

At least he learned a valuable lesson: if you're gonna cheat, be smart about it.

He'll learn from it. I realize the world is a cruel place after getting scammed and basically lost my most valuable thing at the time(a house) in Ultima Online as a pre-teen. Shit tears you up but makes you stronger

Lol, that's funny.

Oh yeah what a knee slapper! I mean come on COMEDY GOLD watching 11 kid get fucked over by internet trolls. I'm going to pass out from laughing so hard.....

Seriously wtf. Shit reminded me of when my Legend of Zelda Link to the Past save file got deleted when I was ready to fight Gannon. I feel bad for him.

Pretty much, I remember being scammed in my first online game as well.
Sucks about what happened to him but, he'll learn from it. (hopefully)

So we have different senses of humor, is that such a big deal?
Just because you don't find it funny, doesn't mean no-one else should.
Jeez, lighten up.

That kid will end up swatting the stranger now.

Trolls begat trolls.

He's on his way.
Dishonesty(+attention seeking?): Wanting to and then attempting to glitch/cheat (perhaps somewhat: for stream).
Dishonesty+minor strike back with appeal to internet-memes: "I didn't really want ____."
Video of him being duped/bothered becomes popular.

...and it could escalate -- or perhaps already has -- from here.

When I was a kid I let my friend's big brother borrow my Game Boy for a bit. He came back after a while snickering, and when I looked at the screen I saw he had deleted my Link's Awakening save game. I was close to the end in that game.

Lots of screaming and crying, but lesson learned.

How many hours does that take? I think I am on level 11 and that took fucking forever for me at least.

the crying...damn

There is no telling how many hours were into the level 31
He had raid stuff so he had at least beaten the new raid a few times and there could have been anywhere from none to 20+ exotics on the character, I'd guess a few
Was probably at least 100 hours

That was pretty bad, at least there's video proof.

My older brother deleted my LoZ ALTTP character out of spite, because I was the one who found the last piece of heart and finally had 20 hearts LOL, we laugh about it now...

Well, that sucks.

I haven't played Destiny in over 6 months, there's actually glitches and exploits people use to level up?

kid shouldn't be playing without parental supervision....he's 11

Expecting a parent to always be around to watch their kid play games is unrealistic. Even if a parent was there I doubt they have any idea what's going on and wouldn't be able to prevent this.

He is too young to be playing it anyway, it's PEGI 16, if he had waited 5 years I bet he wouldn't have made the same mistake and cried about it.

He's an 11 year old kid. His brain is not fully developed and many kids his age don't fully understand the consequences of such actions. There is a reason 'stranger danger' become so well-known, kids are gullible.

Man, what's with all the harsh people in here? Ever heard of empathy?
Some people are just dicks by nature. I would have probably laughed at that if I was in my teens or early twenties, but any mature person shouldn't find this funny, or just desserts.

Reminds me a little of when I used to catch kids playing minecraft on our school computers. I would remote into their machines, and immediately run their character into lava pools or oceans, making them loose all their equipment. If I caught the same kid doing it again, I would delete their world, all while laughing maniacally, imagining their screams of horror. I mean, you can play Minecraft all day at home...at school, you're in my playground, and you deal with my rules.

Some days, being a system admin for a school district is an amazing thing.

Lol, that's funny.

Lol pwnt.

Seriously? I mean, a petty asshole making a 11 year old cry is something people can find funny? Congrats.

No, at school YOU are upholding the rules of the SCHOOL in the interest of the KIDS, not your own hunger for power, dipshit. This behaviour proves you are absolutely *not* fit to hold such a position. If a kid does something they shouldn't, there should be a warning procedure which you yourself should follow, not acting like a petty, primitive, vindictive asshole. Little people getting power and abusing it immediately. Hiding behind rules they don't give a shit about just to rationalise fuckwittery. Absolutely *not fit* to hold any position of power. And not even being ashamed for this...incredible.

Seriously, this is incredible. When an idiot like you gets some power that they should use in the interest of the community and they abuse it and don't even understand it's *not* "their rules", the power they hold is not "theirs" and they didn't get that power as a plaything...incredible. This is abuse of power granted by a community that should be used in its interest not as a private plaything.

Some days, being a system admin for a school district is an amazing thing.

This is simply abuse of power and generally being an asshole. But way too many "sysadmins" are know-nothing powerhungry assholes, like you. Petty, primitive, lameass idiots. Should be sacked immediately. You are absolutely not someone to let near education.

Rated T for Teen.

I think he's using his mom's Google account to upload videos? The account talks about the kid in third person in one of the comments so I'm assuming his mom is aware of what happened and that her kid plays the game. If she's cool with it, who are we to judge? :P

Poor kid though, a hard lesson learned indeed :/

Rough lessons to learn.

I hope he learned 2 things.

Don't let a stranger mess with personal things.

Don't glitch/cheat in online games.

I would never do this to a kid, and it sucks, but this is hardly a "devastating" thing unless your parents have done a horrible job of teaching you some priorities in life by age 11.

My daughter is 7 and lost a big save on her gaming PC with Lego Marvel Superheros. (some screwy thing with cloud saves/steam apparently...not sure) She was very upset at first, but we had a good talk about game saves being trivial and how this sort of thing isn't important in life or the grand scheme of things. It's definitely not something worth crying about and spending time upset over. Games have also given me a great chance at teaching her not to give up, and to suck it up/keep practicing when she loses or dies.

I'd say games are a great way to learn some small life lessons. The little guy will be fine if his parents are worth anything. (I realize they may not be :( )

Will you ever introduce her to Dark Souls? The ultimate lesson in not giving up :P

It's sad how he cries at the end. Some people think this was justified? This is clear cut bullying of a kid; please try to learn empathy. Just because everyone learns the hard way that the world is full of scumbags doesn't mean it's A-OK to be a scumbag.

Also, you guys know ESRB ratings aren't compulsory, right? Destiny is rated T, it isn't an "age restricted product".

I came in expecting annoying 14 years old Xbox live kid learning a lesson. Ended up feeling bad for the kid. He sounded nice and polite.

That sounds like a lot of effort.
You could just stop being a bit of a prick, kid is 11 years old.

Age has nothing to do with being a prick. I knew a lot of prick 11 year olds when I was 11.

Anyway, sucks for him to lose his "work" but 11 is 11.. No sympathy for someone playing the game outside of the rating system. Parents should've bought him LBP instead.

The code of online conduct that we have every student sign at the beginning of every year clearly states that using school property for any means other than school work is prohibited, and that, if caught, students are subject to punishment, up to and including the deletion of software. The school board has agreed on this, as has the teachers union, the district and building administrators; and the Director of Technology has my back and agrees with the punishment. Every student and their guardians sign this form on a yearly basis. What I do is, in every way, validated. Go fly your injustice flag elsewhere, because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about in this situation.

Rated T for Teen.
T = generally suitable for ages 13 and up.

It's up to the parents discretion if their kid under 13 is mature enough to play it, same with M rated games. Never understood this weird fascination people have with people under 18 playing M rated games like it matters, like they themselves weren't watching R rated movies when they were like 12 or that if a parent allows their kid to play a M rated game the parents are shitty.
