Kid share plays Destiny to stranger...

Why are so many posters saying this when it has no bearing on the other guy being a major asshole? Destiny is pretty tame as far as FPSs go. The enemies are non-human, and there's no blood or gore. The worst thing you'll find in it is online interaction and you must be completely unaware of all the kids that have been playing Call of Duty for a whole generation.

I enjoy Destiny but no way would I let my little kids play it. That's like exposing them to a Casino slot machine. I recall seeing a mom buying Destiny at best buy buying Destiny for her kids. I talked her out it. At least an adult can recognize Destiny is a slotmachine and have the self control to sell it, keep playing, or whatevs

Destiny is a parents best friend, spend $60 once and not have to buy their kids a new game for months at a time, saving $

As i answered for another user, i just have the opinion that 11 year kids should not be playing these kind of games, also i even though it was rated M. This have nothing to do with the fact that the other guy was a complete asshole, i agree.

Isn't that the same for every game with random rewards? I haven't played Destiny so I don't know exactly what it is that sets it aside that far (I understand every 'round' ending gives a random prize to one player only or something?) but it sounds like you may be overreacting a tad?

I feel really bad for the kid but, in the end, he will learn his lesson and move on.

Something needs to be done to the asshole that did this tho. Specially since it's not even his "first offense".

Please ban him from destiny. Or even better ban his PSN account.

Lol, you're funny. Should I feel bad for all the hackers who get banned from CoD also? This kid just got his digital character deleted for trying to glitch. I think he got off lite really.

I know, right. Some of these people are acting like the stranger killed the boy's dog. It's just a video game. Maybe they should be more concerned over the fact that the child is so addicted to a game it caused him to cry. That can't be healthy.

Ok, now this is just wrong.

There's nothing wrong with the kid. The game is fun. You invest hours into it. If somebody deleted my chars I'd be legit sad and angry. I wouldn't cry but I'm not a kid. He is.

You can totally feel bad for the kid and still think that his stuff shouldn't be returned. I'm like that. Doesn't change the fact that something should be done against the prick that did this.

These descriptions, it's way too early to be watching something that sad sounding. Feel bad for the kid, but at least he won't make the same mistake again. Hopefully the guy gets banned permanently.

If we got your mother on the phone right now, I'm sure she can tell us stories of a young uncle cross taking video games too seriously

probably doesn't have kids (or of that age) to understand - like you said, I'd be really angry, not least because I get so little gaming time that it'd be impossible to regain such a loss! It's like my Far Cry 4 save, it's taken me 6 weeks to get to 28% - if that corrupted I'd be near tears! lol

What? That entirely depends on how you play Destiny and what your goals are.

Anyway, I do have sympathy for the child. Pretty horrible thing to do. On a similar note a couple or my friends had a bet some time ago (I may have instigated it) that if one managed to finish higher on the leaderboard than the other in a crucible match then the "winner" gets to remote play in while streaming and delete an exotic of their choosing. This was when the Vex Mythoclast was riding high and relatively rare. You can guess the rest...

You know you can make a backup of your FC4 save, right? Problem with Destiny is that it's all server side.

Sucks for the kid, but maybe it's good in the long term that he learnt this lesson is a relatively painless way.

The Kermit guy should have his PSN account terminated.

Destiny is pretty much a game of exploiting everything you can.
Exploiting the MANY raid bugs to cheese bosses is done by practically everyone.
The nightfall missions are often practically impossible unless you exploit the bugs, hiding in unreachable areas or whatever.
I stopped playing because of how glitch-based the game was. Completing the high level content was just a case of knowing the exploits/cheese and hoping you don't get hit by the bugs. Almost every raid group I joined would start with, "So do we have a sunsinger with solar grenades?" or whatever the glitch of the week was.

Yep wont let them play any online rpg with RNG in it. granted, atm all they want to play is Wii

There's so much wrong in this post. Not from you but Bungie.

Eh? I mean, MMOs usually just add a "type the character name in for the character you want to delete to make sure you really want to delete." Destiny just has a slightly lengthy delete timer so you don't accidentally delete it so I don't think there's much they did wrong?

Man my heart breaks for this kid. As kids my brother and I were always trying to glitch things. Hell, game genie and gamesharks were our best friends.

I know some MMOs it's still possible to recover characters if hacked for example within a certain amount of time of contacting CS. Though Destiny sits in that middle where it's not quite a MMO but can be quite the time sink so it's a bit odd.

destiny exploits players; players exploit destiny. there's some natural law that covers this.

the players cheating in pvp with aimbots and unlimited heavy ammo are scumbags though, second only to griefers like kermit.

Ah, that's what you mean. Well, I doubt any of us know the capabilities of Bungie's online powers so I guess we'll see.

The problem is destiny doesn't have customer service like a real MMO, there is no ticket system or way to report issues except by posting on forums or getting famous on YouTube.

Good to see this made it into the bungie weekly update and they said they are looking into fixes... I'm guessing they'll make a self service recovery process to roll back your character, since there's no trading in destiny that shouldn't be exploitable.

destiny also asks if "you are sure" you want to delete the char after the lengthy timer. you can even see it in this video. all you have to do is press x to confirm it and the kirmit guy in this video did it quick.

anyways, pretty assholish thing to do. I feel for the kid.

Don't trust strangers children. The people giving him hell for wanting to glitch are too harsh, the game is a snore-fest grind until the raid. I'd want to glitch to 30 myself.

And I just wanted to log into my friends account to delete his Gjallerhorn, if I deleted all three of his 32s he would probably legit murder me.
hes a little obsessive

But, imagine a world where Bungie would let people claim deleted items? They would be SLAMMED with requests from people with pissed off SO's that delete their accounts as revenge, people that made a mistake and sat on their controllers, and people that are trying to game the system for extra vault space. It would be too much to just let all requests be filled, and they couldn't reasonably look at each case...

There is nothing more Bungie can
or should
do with this situation. It really is on the end-user to be a lot more cognisant with their 'personal belongings'.

And he uploads a video with him crying at the end? Looks fake to me.

In the past months, when shitty situations came up and people went to Reddit and posted a video of their sad-story, Bungie has swooped in to fix the situation
even if it is against the rules
. So I'm betting he is sharing it all with the hopes the video gains some traction and the high-ups at Bungie restore his account...

Well, they could have a system where you can once bring back something deleted within a 24 hour period before its permanently deleted.

Then you could game the system for vault space, or to make an extra Titan boost to 20 - and put on your old gear to get a free Raid run each 24hrs. There are just too many blatant ways to exploit a system like that.

So a few take-a-ways from this all. He's pretty young and at best, he will have learned that not everyone is nice and wants to buddy buddy with you and help you out. At worst he lost a large amount of time, cried and will be upset for a few days/weeks.

I'm curious though, does Bungie not keep a backup of their server running with the main? A server that backs up content once a day or something? I find it hard to believe that in this day and age MMO's are running without a backup plan if something ever catastrophic happened (at this budget/AAA level of range). If Blizzard could restore accounts/characters back in the hay-day, then Bungie should have the means to do it too.
