From Battle Royale.
QT loved it so much, he cast her.

I always thought Gogo's nose was too big...it was too unsettling to find her hot for some reason.

Eh, probably being too picky though.

I've only seen them both once and wasn't a fan. I think I went in with a bit of a hater attitude at the time because it was getting way too much hype.

I'll re-watch them one day perhaps.

I'm just glad they didn't force him to edit 248 minutes down to a single film like so many other studios force their directors to do.
Moss def.

Gangs of Newark could have been amazing.

Origin of O-Ren Ishii is completely worthless.
The swelling music with the burial sequence is completely awesome.
Overall, an excellent work.

Long before it was ever released, I read a supposedly never filmed scene which would have fleshed out Bill character a bit more. At first I thought the scene was over the top, but in context of the whole film, I wish it would at least been filmed.

Vol. 1 was and still is one of my favorite movies. It was just so cool the whole way through.

Vol. 2 had some great moments, but ultimately it was a huge letdown after the first one. As weird as it may sound, my opinion of the film would have completely changed for the better if Beatrix and Bill had just had an epic sword fight at the end (and of course Bea finishing him off with the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique). For me, the ending was just so unexciting after all the cool events the preceded it.

Listen to more soundtracks.

The Kill Bill soundtracks are fantastic, there is no doubt. But the best ever? Not even close.

Kill Bill features great pieces of music, from great films of the past ( most notably westerns, which arguably do have the some of the best composed music). So it's sort of like a giant mash-up of all those greats.

edit: indeed, you are a good person.

What are GAFs opinions on these films? I really enjoy them. My favorite part is probably the sequence with Hattori Hanzo.

Part 1: YAY!

Part 2: NAY!

I can watch Part 1 over and over and never get tired of it, especially after she gets to Japan!!

Part 2 was good, but it turned into some kind of weird western-esque movie and I couldn't get behind it...

The only soundtrack that came close to this was Red Dead Redemption.

Also, there's a pretty clear difference between the volumes though I guess, vol. 1 was basically action porn, while vol. 2 was much more story centric. I loved the whole Pao Mei (sp?) and Hattori Hanzo sequences.

It was worth it for the music alone.
It's a complete tonal and stylistic shift, a total non-sequitor, doesn't advance the plot at all, and oddly elevates O-Ren's character above the rest in importance (no one else gets an origin story.) It's the one scene that could be completely dropped without effecting the plot one iota.

It's a special feature, not a vital part of the movie.

Although game soundtracks really have little place in this thread, I encourage you to check out Clint Bajakian's work on Outlaws. Soundtrack is one big love letter to Morricone.

What would you consider better?
It is a mash up of other soundtracks, but since it is cribbing from other works, shouldnt the works it is taking from be considered superior?

Better soundtracks:

Once Upon a Time in the West
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Star Wars
Jaws
Close Encounters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Superman
Jurassic Park (yes, Williams back in his prime was nearly unstoppable)
The Piano
Gattaca

All are original soundtracks and not mashups or collections.

Tarantino has great taste in the music he picks for his soundtracks. The soundtracks are always utterly fantastic, but are not "best ever" material.

Yeah but the music.

Indeed.
Realized that, and edited, but it was little late I guess. :lol

Yeah but the music. (echo... echo... echo...)

Part 1 was also the first Tarantino film I ever watched. I had no idea what I was getting into when I went to see it. Saw it with some friends and absolutely loved it. After seeing the first part I had to run out and get Pulp Fiction.

Tarantino is one of the few directors who can really get me on the edge of my seat. Not knowing what to expect at all it being my first Tarantino flick, stuff like
the bride getting shot in the head, her killing Vernita in front of her child, the coma scene,
etc. all really got me going.

Pulp Fiction and Basterds ended up topping Kill Bill for me, I think, but it'll always have that special place of being my first Tarantino flick. I still need to see Jackie Brown, but he can really seem to do no wrong for me. Even Death Proof ended up really growing on me on repeated viewings.

And since we're listing awesome music from the film...

The song in Hanzo's loft might be my favorite.

Twisted Nerve was my ringtone for years. :lol

The Misirlou of Kill Bill.

Morricone in the cemetary.

More Morricone from part 2.

I was so impressed by the music he chose for his films that I went out and bought the soundtracks. :lol

Part 1 and 2 and the Aviator are the only films I've double dipped on to own them on Blu-ray as well as DVD.

Love both. It's one of the rare movies I don't get tired watching.

And I agree, greatest soundtrack of any movie. I love every single track on them.

I love these movies. I can't say I fully buy Uma in the role, but I know she helped come up with the idea. So I guess it couldn't have happened any other way.

God, I watching vol.1 now, I love how in the origin of O-ren, the pistol she uses just vaporizes body parts, and the sniper rifle makes one clean little hole :lol

Loved both, but I'd put them on the lower end of the Tarantino spectrum. I have a special love for all of his movies, and as a oldschool kung-fu fan I'm probably a bit biased. The movie worked on so many levels, but it was about the limit of serious filmmaking mixed with homages to older films.

I'm glad he took a step back with the Basterds and focused on what made Tarantino movies 'Tarantino' instead of trying to work his style around old throwbacks. I will say things like Gordon Liu and Sonny Chiba being in it, the RZA doing awesome sound effects, and fuckawesome action sequences still made it an awesome movie, just not quite up there with the rest of his films.

Hehe, I've always felt the same. She just looks so unlike the part. :P I don't like her much as an actress either but I guess that's something else.
