Kill Bill

twisted nerve is going to be in my head for days now....

Tarintino does such a good job of with his soundtracks it's not even funny. Kill Bill is his best in this regard throughout. But for me Vol. 1 > Vol. 2. I don't think there's a warm-blooded american male that doesn't enjoy vol. 1.

Might as well start it off...

In terms of films directed by Tarantino:

Pulp Fiction (10/10) = Jackie Brown (10/10) > Kill Bill Vol. 1&2 (9.5/10) > Inglorious Basterds (9/10) = Reservoir Dogs (9/10) > Death Proof (8.5/10)

I'm a huge fan of the Tarantino Cut of True Romance as well, if you ever have the chance, make sure to give it a whirl.

Jackie Brown is easily his most underrated film, it has grown on me significantly over the year.

Rarely do ratings, but I think I'll give it a whirl

Pulp Fiction: 10/10
Kill Bill: 10/10
Inglourious Basterds: 9.5/10
Reservoir Dogs: 9.5/10
Jackie Brown: 9/10
Death Proof: 8.5/10

Love em all.

thats pretty much my exact order.. except i wouldnt put inglorious on the same level as reservoir.. for me reservoir has gotten worse with time.. where stuff like jackie brown only gets better.

I didn't care for them when I first saw them several years ago. Then, several months ago, I watched Volume 1 when it was airing on television and I really enjoyed it. Actually, I went out and purchased the Blu-Ray not too long after. I actually enjoy both movies very much now, but I think I enjoy the first more. Both are very good, though.

I also really like the soundtracks.

Part 1 - awesome action scenes, not that great in terms of story.
Part 2 - so-so action scenes, much better story.

I agree.

I just said that I'd put Basterds above Kill Bill in my last post but, thinking about it a little more, I think I'd put Kill Bill above it. :lol

So...

Pulp Fiction - 10
Kill Bill - 9.7
Inglorious Basterds - 9.5
Reservoir Dogs - 9.0
Death Proof - 8.7

Yay for decimal systems.

Really need to see Jackie Brown.

On October 3, 2009, at the Morelia International Film Festival, Quentin Tarantino announced that Kill Bill 3 would be his ninth film, and would be released in 2014.[30] He said he intends to make another unrelated film before that date as his eighth film. He confirmed that he wanted ten years to pass between the Bride's last conflict, to give her and her daughter a period of peace.

When he was talking about doing the revenge story with Vernita's daughter or whatever right after the original was released I wasn't really too hot on the idea, but now I'm kind of interested. I guess the ten year mark might be a good idea. I'd prefer he stick to new material, but I think I'd be down for him revisiting the Kill Bill universe (Yeah, the talk might be like the Vega Bros movie). Would you guys want a third?

I try to treat it as one movie. If I had to separate them then Volume 1 would be my favorite Tarantino film with Volume 2 being the least.

The reasons for this are 3:

#1 Volume 1 had tons of personality, style, and aesthetics going for it. The exploitationess of it oozed so well with the script and storyline that created an incredible presentation. Unfortunately this was very much lost in Volume 2 as Volume 2 focused on being much more serious.

#2 The protagonists went from being a complete nearly unstoppable badass killer to a very human heroine that was nearly seen as incompetent. In Volume 1 the protagonists seemed unstoppable almost never being in peril. While in Volume 2 that was clearly different. In short imagine watching a superhero movie that had two parts to it like Kill Bill. In the first part they're portrayed like Bruce Wayne is in "The Dark Knight", with part two they're portrayed as Peter Parker from "Spider-man 2". That's how I felt.

#3 Yes Volume 1 didn't focus too much on story, but story isn't the point for an exploitation film. Part 2 focused much more on the story, but unlike most Tarantino films the story was mediocre, it was how it was told in Volume 1 that made it so interesting.

I'd probably go...

Kill Bill > Pulp Fiction > Inglourious Basterds > Jackie Brown > Reservoir Dogs

Still haven't seen Death Proof.

Part 1 - Loved It

Part 2 - Not so much

Prolly could have edited it better and made it into 1 film.
This says it all. I was really let down by part 2. O-Ren Ishii was a way cooler antagonist. The scene with Hattori Hanzo and the last fight was the most memorable for me. Bill was meh in part 2.

I'd say: Pulp Fiction > Kill Bill > Inglourious Basterds > Reservoir Dogs > Jackie Brown

TBH, on second viewings I didn't care for the latter two at all and if you considered KB Vol. 2 a movie on its own I'd put IB in front of it.

Still waiting to see what The Whole Bloody Affair would do to the KB duology.

Kill Bill >Pulp Fiction > Reservoir Dogs > Jackie Brown>Inglourious Basterds
for some reason i didnt liked Inglourious Basterds

I found them stylish, entertaining and... empty.
Interesting. Some would argue that movies about bad guys shooting each other over drugs and bank robberies are empty. A big long movie about love, revenge, and redemption seems way more fulfilling to me.

The first movie is good fun but part two is incredible, especially in the third act. Even after seeing the movie a ridiculous number of times I still get completely sucked into the story when she finally enters Bills hotel.

I think they were decently entertaining Tarantino films. I liked most of his other work better especially the recent Inglourious Basterds though, mostly because his other films seem to have better overall acting..

Fucking love the movie. I saw it three times in the theater (part 1) and saw the second part twice in the theater. I love each for very different reasons.

The dialogue in part two is masterful. Love watching it.

Should have been one movie. Grindhouse should have been the one seperated into two. Will always remember Kill Bill because the girl I was dating when it came out on DVD was psycho and tried to kill herself when she found it in my car. She HATED Uma Thurman and, get this, was jealous of her. It was like I was cheating on her if I watched anything with her in it. God damn I don't know how people deal with bi-polar spouses or girlfriends.

I don't think that I've ever finished Kill Bill Vol. 2. I thought the first film was quite decent, but I was in high school then, so I had a weaker taste in film.

Man, I'm actually surprised so many people prefer the first, I thought vol. II was so much better. Both are great though.

And while I'm at it...
Pulp Fiction > Inglorious Basterds > Jackie Brown > Kill Bill > Death Proof > Reservoir Dogs

Jackie Brown will probably move up after another viewing or two as I've only seen it once.

There was a rumor on /film the other day saying Tarantino might direct a new The Shadow, which would be cool with me.

Fair point, but something about these movies made them feel to me like an exercise in style, and nothing more. They entertained, but never drew me in at all, which is a very vague complaint, I admit. Maybe Uma didn't carry it for me as much as others? (David Carradine was excellent and serpentine, tho'.) It's funny, because that feeling of being more than just style is something I get from Tarantino's other movies - Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglourious Basterds - which his imitators usually lack, but the Kill Bills... hmmm

Best soundtrack ever

this. so good.

i just saw both parts one after another this year for the first time. :D The first had an awesome mix of story and action, which was rad.

in the second one, I think action took a backseat to going further towards finishing the story, which I actually didn't mind too much. I liked it a lot.

Pulp Fiction 10
Jackie Brown 10
Kill Bill Vol. 1 9.5
Inglourious Basterds 9
Kill Bill Vol 2 8.5
Reservoir Dogs 8
True Romance (it's still pretty Tarantino) 8
His appearance on the Golden Girls as an Elvis Impersonator 5
Death Proof 3 (gets a point for the awesome car wreck and 2 points for Kurt Russell)

Has to be the best soundtrack ever.

One of the few films where I've spent the $40 for both the CDs.

Tarantino films always have me digging through old LPs in record stores. The dude's taste in music is incredible.

Two of my favorite movies of all time. When I saw the second one I didn't like it that much the first time around. However on a second viewing it really grew on me. I think it was just a shock to my system after seeing the first, and expecting it to be similar. Without any expectations I appreciated it much more.

To be honest I would have no problem watching these again and again. So much fun.

if you look at them individually, i think vol 1 is the 'better' film overall whereas vol 2 has better stand alone scenes/parts.

For me it'd be

Pulp Fiction > Inglourious Basterds > Kill Bill Vol.1 > Reservoir Dogs > Kill Bill Vol.2 >>> Jackie Brown > Death Proof

Loved 1, liked 2. And yeah, where is the whole bloody affair?

Supposedly they are planning to make volume 3. Not sure how I feel about that seeing as how Bill is already dead and so is the actor who plays him (so no flashbacks would be possible).

Not a fan particularly. I think its Tarantino's weakest work when taken as a whole. When taken as two part, then Vol. 2 is better than Death Proof.

Great films, part one was by far the better one though, 2 dragged a lot. Why the hell hasn't The Whole Bloody Affair edition been released yet, that shit is so obvious.

I haven't seen these films since they were in theaters but I remember liking part 2 a bit more than part 1. The Bill scenes at the end were almost perfect; A nice counterpoint to the insanity of part 1's finale.

I still haven't bought either film because I've been waiting for this.

anything's better than death proof!

How come so many of you are comparing the two parts? Are we really meant to view the volumes separately? I can't imagine that.

Thank you, yes!

I mean, we were ultimately made to see them separately in time (what was it, about six months apart in theatres, November and April?), but they're still one long brilliant film in my mind.

My favorite Tarantino ever and among one of my favorite films of all. Just amazing. Made me fall in love with Uma. The ending still gets me every time. And what a soundtrack! Holy shit.

Legal hell because of the Weinstein Company and Miramax's financial woes.

And I guess I am in the minority that finds Vol. 2 to be the superior film. Vol. 1 had all the action, but Vol. 2 was a modern western and had all the character drama that paid off in the end.

Oh, and here is more proof of Vol. 2's superiority over Vol. 1:
