Killer 7 is horrible.

I haven't even played Killer 7 and it doesn't even look like ti's on the same level as SOTC. Atleast SOTC wasn't wierd for the sake of being wierd.
Then please don't comment until you have at least tried it.

I don't have to play it to say SOTC doesn't look as quirky as Killer 7. I can make this judgement by just watching videos of the game.
Perhaps i misinterpreted what you meant. did you mean that no way could Killer 7 be as good as SOTC or did you mean you don't get the comparison in general?

I haven't played enough of SOTC to understand it, but Killer7 is much more than just weird to be weird. The plot is deep and truly disturbing, not just quirky. It wasn't for nothing that Kasavin compared its storyline to Metal Gear Solid.

There's a difference between looking like it's on a different "level" and looking quirky. Looking quirky is simply aesthetic and has nothing to do with quality. You just changed the entire implication of your statement.

The plot is out there enough to make me wonder how it even made it to American shores, post-9/11.
I found myself wondering the same thing several times. I also find it both hillarious and sad that people have viewed screenshots/videos/the first level and think they have any idea what this game is about both in gameplay and style.

I got this for Xmas from my brother, and I must say I'm surprisingly hooked. At first I thought I'd never touch it again, but I keep going back. Really enjoying it.
Oh, and that whole "random Japanese" bit, well it's the same exact thing as the english so it's hardly "random."

Killer 7 is easily, I mean easily a better game than ICO. SOTC? Well I haven't gotten to that yet.

Killer 7 was an awesome, awesome game. I expected it to be somewhat decent but I never expected that I'd get so involved with the addictive gameplay. Heck I didn't follow the story at all simply because I didn't care. I do think a light gun would have helped the gameplay some, but it was still ridiculous amounts of fun.

Can we merge this thread with the Official one?

The content is the same more or less... and this thread title upsets me.

Firmly agree. There was a point when I found out that Con Smith was the best all-around player during the Encounter level (I neglected him for half the game) and I ran through the whole stage blasting the Hell out of everyone. Once you get that critical lock-on ability, them Smiles goin' down.

I really enjoyed Killer 7. I more or less knew what I was getting into when I bought the game, so I accepted the fact it wasn't going to be gameplay heavy. And at first I did find the gameplay mechanics themselves to be a bit uncomfortable, yet by the third mission or so I found it just becoming second nature. Good thing too, because Cloudman for me was just so off the wall that I started gaining a real interest in the story line, enough to get through the whole game and i'm very glad I did. This game certainly had its fair share of memorable experiences.

I really want to try this game now. I was checking gamerankings.com and the different sides of the spectrum are nuts. Anyway, if Shenmue can come out of controversy like that, though I jumped aboard before it was praised or beaten to death, then maybe this can be a great experience.... I just need money.

Hey guys.

I'm Matlock.

I just played this game.

Here's my review of the game I just played.

It sucks.

I'm Matlock.

Resident Evil 4 sucked.

Matlock must be a man of preconceived notions. Which may explain him not liking something unique. Or a change of pace for a franchise. The only way I can understand not liking RE4 is if you expected in the resemblance of RE1-RE3, since it's no longer a survival horror game. It's an action-adventure, one of the best of the kind, with an awesome horror art style and an nearly unmatched intensity in gameplay. Wtf Matlock? Explain yourself... Again probably.

I don't need to explain anything.

I'm Matlock.

I play games, and I review them. Which part of that exactly do you not understand.

That makes me an authority on games because I review them.

Your favorite game sucks.

I was a fan of Resident Evil 4 though, and Killer 7. As soon as Matlock said they were shit I started to have second thoughts...

Because I mean he DOES review games.

anyway I'm not entirely sure, but I think you might be allowed to have a different opinion than another person, especially if that person says anything bad about re4.

I loved the game, because it was a great experience all around.
One of my few complaints (besides the loading times) was the boss fights.
Some boss fights I didn't know what to do.
I just stood there and tried to find their weak spot. This especially applies to the guys in the boardroom..

Awesome game. Great art. Great style. It's different and I appreciate that. If you're gonna try it do so with an open mind and you will enjoy it.

I always hear about loading for the PS2 version, so that's probably the biggest issue.

Okay. Anyone know what sort of English is in the Japanese version? I can play US/Japanese PS2 and Japanese GC, currently. Both versions have English voice acting, right?

not sure if it was just my sound system, but i struggled to hear the English in the japanese version. Plus it was all garbled, so perhaps English subs would help.

It's 5800 in Aki (english GC version) at the moment in Messe Sanoh.

Or you could buy a good game instead. *runs*

Oh, I don't intend to pay more $20 for this travesty, don't worry, but God damn I'm interested!

at $20 , i'd rebuy the english version and give it another shot for sure.

there were just too many other games to play at the time, and i think i'd psyched myself up for the game way beyond what it deserved.

Yeah, the speech is purposly garbled, and they're not saying exactly what they're saying in the english subs. And you'll probably want to be able to read some kind of subs because they're constantly giving you hints on how to beat enemies and bosses.

I also had problems with the boardroom but after I went through it again, I realized the boy in the green and white striped shirt pretty much tells you how to beat them (as he does for all the bosses).

Alot of the game doesn't make sense and I'm wonder how much of the game got lost in translation or it's accurate. I been trying to make sense of it myself. I wondering if something in there for just being weird and decide that should be a gameplay mechanic.

I do feel that some of the levels feel like interactive movies (like parts of level 05).

never heard of a game where the love it, hate it camps are so divided.

i kinda want to try it, anyone here care to explain the controls? and are they customizable? i'm real picky about controls in first person games.

Cube controls:

You walk a set path by holding down A. (third person)
You come to a crossway, then choose your direction with Control Stick, then continue with A.
You turn around with B.
You hear irritating laugh, you press R to switch to 1st person, L to make the enemy visible, aim with the control stick, then fire away with A.
Reload with C-stick.

Only customizable is the option to invert aiming, but the game doesn't even save the setting, so you would have the change it again each time you play the game.

It isn't really a first person game. It's as first person as MGS2/3 is first person. Controls are not that big of a deal in this game, the only thing people cannot grasp is that the game doesn't allow free-roaming exploration. There is a determined path that you have to run through and you can't deviate from that path. You still have to decide which hallways and doors to enter but oter than that, exploration is pretty simple.

resident evil 4 spoiler: i was curious to see the similiarities between killer 7 and the
latter levels of re4 and the regenerators
. wasnt prepared for that one, but a pleasant surprise.

I can't believe I didn't make that connection

which reminds me..
Is there something you have to do to kill the regenerators after you take out the hot spots with the rifle? Because after the first few, which did explode after I took out the hot spots, they stopped dying after I shot all the points. I was forced to grenade and shotgun the hell out of them to make them explode

I can say with 100% certainty and no bias whatsoever that it's better than Kingdom Hearts II.

...The story, I mean.

I felt the controls were a bit restrictive, and escort missions always piss me off. Very classy presentation, but I didn't like the gameplay. :\

There's quite a bit of slowdown in the PS2 version when there are several enemies on the screen and they start to explode, aka you kill one and try moving the reticule to the next one.. Cloudman level is insane for this, but I haven't actually gotten there yet in the GC version, so don't know how it compares.

But they did everything right with the escort missions. I really don't know what to complain about unless you just really hate the premise.

Quick review so far...

+Looks great!

-Horrible controls.
-Nonsensical gameplay.
-Nonsensical plot.
-Japanese text for no apparent reason.
-Decapitated heads vomiting blood for no reason.
-Retarded cackling all the time, again, for no reason.
-"GET MORE BLOOD" with no explanation of how to do it.
-That fey red robot guy or whatever that says WE'RE IN A TIGHT SPOT every time he opens his mouth.
-Loading between every room. I don't mind the length, just that it's between every room.

I've played good games, I've played bad games, but this...yeah. It happily leaped from the territory of Wacky Jappy into the pool of Retarded and rolled around in it for a good long while.

Matlock, calm down.

How to get blood: Shoot of limbs or hit them in their weak spot (the glowing white part on their body). Mask De Smith cannot get critical hits but everybody else can.

What's with the laughing?: When an enemy is near he laughs and begins to attack. The laugh is your warning that you need to be on gaurd. The fact that you can't see the enemy is a gameplay element.

Non-sensical plot: The plot is not supposed to make sense the first time through the game. The second time makes perfect sense, though, and solving it is one of the points of the game.

Why do you have to go back to Harman's room in order to change characters?: You don't. Pause it and look at the top of the screen. There ya go. You do need to go to Harman's room to upgrade or unlock characters (at the beginning of most levels some of the characters are locked and need to be unlocked by killing enough enemies).

Seriously, man, most of that was stuff that was in the in game tutorial, the instruction manual, and even some reviews of the game. It wasn't the game's fault if you missed it.
