Excuse me while I rock the fuck out.

This will hold me over till I get to hear the final tracks...

Great version, wow!

I have to say Max, for me the music (and announcer) counts for probably 75% of why I still remember KI so fondly. It was and is just so energetic and varied, and composers Robin Beanland & Graeme Norgate really deserve some major praise for it. While not my first cd as in your case, I did listen to Killer Cuts very often, also because it was the first cd that allowed me to listen to better versions of game music outside of the game (which was still very novel back then).

Even my mom - who has been a "gamer" since the NES days - sometimes asks me things like "oh what was that fighting game again for the SNES that had that catchy music?" If you know my mom, you know how big a complement this is as she is rarely interested in music in general. Heck, she would probably consider buying and playing the new game if it also had that quality of music. Do we know who is composing for it?

I hope they keep the gameplay similar.

I want small combos which can be chained into larger combos. I want to be able to do combo breakers against those combos. I also want the chance to cut a combo short and go straight into an ability to make it unbreakable.

Also keep all of the crazy finishers and ultra combos.

I'm with you bro. I hate it that MS had to disrupt my purchase plans for the next consoles. Already have a Wii U and was planning to get a PS4 eventually, but if this gets praised by the community, the XBone will be my top priority.

Yes, this one title will overcome anything the PS4 has to offer.
lol...as a fighting game player, I feel where you're coming from, but I can't support MS, especially at launch with there terrible PR and 24hr check stuff they tried. Plus, Sony has only debuted a 1/4 of there exclusives. Still too early to judge if KI will outweight PS4's launch/early launch titles.

Check my user name and you'll see it is hard for me not to impulse buy just because of KI, but I have to give it some time. If it turns out to be the next big thing in fighters, sure I'll jump. But I'm just as eagerly looking forward to what Capcom will do on next-gen with SF, what Seth is doing at Santa Monica and his next project, Namco with Soul Calibur and Tekken etc etc...

This still has a chance of being swallowed in 3-4 months after launch hype dies, and you only last and sale if your game truly has legs and sustainability in this genre. Definitely brings me back, but not enough to buy 2 consoles in a year's time span.

Just buy a XB1 only and get a ps4 when infamous or something actually comes out for it. Sony was terrible with online and infrastructure at launch of ps3. No reason to be there day one if it doesn't have the games.

Goes by the name of Mick Gordon. I've been chatting with him on twitter every once a while. He's also released a few Vines teasing the music. If you check back in this thread you'll find them. It's sounding really good.

nah, not supporting XB1 early out of principle regardless of what Sony launches with. I didn't have a problem with DRM stuff as much as others, but the 24 hour check and terrible PR was off-putting to me.

Sony has played catch-up fairly well this gen in online infrastructure as well, I think PS4 will be ok. I'm only getting a 3DS this year with Pokemon and MH, will finish my PS3 back-log and pick up next-gen (PS4) in March 2014 with tax return money.

I also think ppl on forums are jumping too quickly on the PS4 games comparison thing. When Yoshida says they have 20 exclusives in the first year, I tend to take his word for it, just the same as I did with MS, even though i knew some of it would be smaller games/kinect focus etc...they still brought the goods, and I don't doubt Sony will fall behind much if at all.

Sounds like you'll be ahead then. I took it you were getting ps4 at launch. I'll get both eventually not trying to hate just being realistic.

Sorry for getting off track KI is a day one purchase for me. I love fighters at launch. They feel magical.

ok I didnt think much of this game at the beginning but watching that tournament now, the gameplay is pretty fantastic. Comboing into super and then a regular combo into another super is almost genius even though its a simple idea.

You can tell some fans are developing the game cause the announcer screaming ultra is just too epic. It's too bad its on xbox. Surprised that playstation doesnt have a fighting game.

yeah, let me know how it plays... I stopped playing fighters competitively because online was getting me too pissed off and focusing on winning too much instead of improving. It's also impossible to improve when you don't have a local buddy or groups to play with in Jersey. But I was competent at both SF4/VF5 and dabbled in SC/KOF a little as well. Let me know how KI turns out.

Thanks Max for that answer (and also for taking the time to actually notice and respond to a junior)! Mr. Gordon has quite some large shoes to fill, doesn't he? Fingers crossed for another great soundtrack though.

This and project spark is the reason I am overlooking the $500 price tag for inferior hardware. I play the games and MS has them.

I'm still willing to switch to PS4 if they show some good stuff at Gamescom and TGS but yep I still have my XBONE preorder receipt all safe and snuggly in my wallet :3

Are they serious with this "Sabrewulf is a drug addict" crap? I'm at a loss for words on how stupid this looks.

Killer Instinct was always juvenile, but I was a kid when it was popular, so it worked. Now they're playing on the nostalgia for the brand, which means they're fully aware that the audience they're speaking to is all adults, and they actually make it more juvenile?

I had been disappointed that they didn't have a Banjo game at E3, but if this is what they're doing to KI, maybe it's for the best that they didn't.

I think it's because of his Lycanthropy.

Again, Rare should do this more with their IPs. give them to other developers, and let them reign and watch over development. My kingdom for a Twisted Pixel-developed Banjo Kazooie title. My Country for a Flying Hog-developed Perfect Dark.

This really is the first step to revive the integrity of Rare IPs. :/

Side-note: this is the only KI cover I can really enjoy ;~; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUfFrjevmRg

Im not a big fan of the new look either, but I really dont see how the game looks 'juvenile' at all. If anything it doesnt look tounge and cheek enough. Something KI1 did very well.

I think I'm just looking at a game that's a sequel in a series I've owned every previous game in, but what would I know about what I'm doing?

So, a game in a series you're obviously already attached too? Yeah, that's not something you would scrutinize.

I mean, you're complaining about them taking a character who was a Werewolf who had mech arms attached to him some how being more juvenile now that they have had him rip off said arms and jack himself up on drugs to feel less pain from the process of magically growing new ones.

Tongue-in-cheek =/= juvenile. That would be a vast improvement over making it look like a 12-year-old's idea of cool because it's "edgy" and "dark & gritty".

It's a child's idea of mature.

But Killer Instinct in general is really the 12 year old's idea of "cool." Badass ninjas, werewolves, robots, zombies, black guys, hot chicks, demons. That's every single thing filled to make it a pre-teen's paradise.

KI is always childish, crass, immature, and juvenile. OR do you think flashing your tits to someone as a means of exploding their head the most classiest thing in the world lol

Yes, because that's ludicrous. They're taking something that was silly and never meant to be taken seriously and turning into this faux-mature dark & gritty embarrassment. It's the kind of stuff I'd expect to see drawn on a Trapper Keeper in sixth grade.

It's this, basically:

Taking itself seriously is the mistake. The originals did not, this one does.

Im not saying those things are equal, Im just pointing out that DH is clearly going for a much more serious tone than the first two games, which is why I dont think 'juvenile' is the right term but whatever.

I agree that they need to ditch the "EXTREME!!!111" and all that BS, (which if you go by their feedback poll they already are), but besides that the game seems to actually be taking on a more serious tone. Especially if you read the DH interviews. Again I dont like the look so far but DH is listening and taking constructive criticism which is more than you can say for alot of devs.

The best way I can think to put it is to look at the Fast & Furious series. In the beginning, they were terrible and could only be enjoyed ironically because they were so dumb and took themselves so seriously. Now they're great and everyone loves them because they're in on the joke.
