Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

The graphics look fine but the gameplay they did on stage looked god awful. It looked like dude was mashing buttons, twirling the stick, and yet pulled off 15 hit combos.

If you want more proof:

So then where was Rare? Was this the 'historic IP' that Rare was going to show?

Rare not making it?!?!

And it looks nothing like Killer Instinct. Big let down.

This is KI:

Trailer shows both Double Helix AND Rare logos at the end:

Not sure how it could be called a re-skinned SF4 when obviously this plays /much/ faster than SF4. Even the graphics don't resemble it, it's too gritty.

And to be honest, the demo we saw of people playing? For all we know it has a basic option for beginner users ala MVC3. If anything, if you /HAD/ to compare it to another fighter, it's combo chains to me, resemble a little Darkstalkers.

As someone who was a diehard Killer Instinct fan, I thought this looked terrible

Hideous art design and it looks looked clunky. Not to mention, none of the original devs are on board.

Do you think the original Killer Instinct had good art? Its actually pretty gaudy, seems they executed that just fine with the new one.

The thought of Ultra combos now doesn't appeal so much after UMvC. One thing I think helps out is burning meter to force yourself out of the combo.

Zero loops just get old after a while.

I want to see how Thunder plays. He was one of my favorites. Hope he's on the roster.

So apparently it's being co-developed by Rare/DH. I also heard DH actually has people "experienced with fighting games" working on it? (EDIT: Oh, Filthie Rich is working on the game.)

EDIT: Is there any information regarding Double Helix being possibly restructured? Scrolling through their website, it's like all of their previous information has been gone regarding SH: Homecoming, etc. Maybe Foundation 9 cleaned up shop and had layoffs? It seems logical. Maybe they're trying to purge the awful out of DH.

MOTHER.

FUCKING.

YEEEES.

I don't care that it looks different from the previous ones, KI2/Gold was already quite quirky/ugly. A fresh take is more than welcomed.

I don't care that Double Helix is making it and not Rare. I'll wait for the first impressions of people who have actually played the game before burying them.

I don't care that it's exclusive to a console that I probably won't buy, because of bad policies about second-hand sales and privacy concerns.

I just don't care.

It's motherfucking Killer Instinct, probably one of the longest running jokes on GAF and in the industry about players wanting the return of a franchise. And it's coming back.

I jumped on my chair when I heard the music and saw the logo. It's one of the very few games for which I can turn into a fanboy momentarily, and I did.

The development seems fairly advanced, since they were able to play a versus match during the conference. Can't wait to see more.

I didn't mind sabrewolf as much as I did Jago. He looked like shit with a a hefty dose of douche peppered on top. Gotta love how he went from a sweet ninja to a tatted up MMA dude with a bowl cut.

The gameplay looked pretty bad - though I am sure they will tweak things. The combos were slow and looked easybutton.

I am in a weird place with this footage. On one hand, I have been asking for a KI sequel for years, on the other hand the gameplay doesn't live up to what I love about the series.

The characters actually have a sense of style to them, even if it is very western. In this case, that's really a good thing, though.

I found it funny to see Jago land a decent cross up. The Speed-up nature of the combos looked very KI, as did the super-explosion of particle effects.

The character re-designs mostly work for me. Saberwulf looks especially like her had some personality to him, and I liked his twitchy idle animation.

I don't really care who the devs are ATM; with the right support, they can still make a great game. Won't judge on this front, before knowing more details.

I'm pretty happy with this being an early-in-a-new-gen announcement, though. It's much better than EVERYTHING being a Shooter or such. I still don't know if 400 or 500 dollars on any of these new systems is worth the system, VS buying games on currently still good, relevant systems for the same prices, for MONTHS on end, though...

... but so far, if / when I get an Xbox One, I'll be interested. Glad to see the brand back. Need more western 3D fighters than JUST Mortal Kombat.

Yeah, it looks a bit like poo. Certainly not something I'd expect of next-gen (which I keep saying about many of the games at the conf). I'm disappointed this wasn't handled by Rare though. When you compare this with MK9 or Injustice it just looks pedestrian.

I was hoping Conker would show up as the bath-salts-fueled-killer-squirrel, but if Rare's not making it, what's the point? :-/

I have no connection to Killer Instinct, unfortunately. Was hoping for Conker or Banjo Kazooie. Or even a re-invented Perfect Dark.

Robin Beanland, the composer for the original Killer Instinct, is still at Rare. If he is not working on this game in any capacity I will jump in a lake.

I feel sorry for the veterans still at Rare, working on Kinect Sports X while their old franchises are recycled to shovelware developers.

Man what's with the character design? The original character design looks much better imho.
Don't want to know how Fulgore and Cinder look like.

For whatever reason this game has become legendary for many gamers. Don't get me wrong I liked this game back in the day but it is just an average fighting game that is somewhat shallow.

Wow why did they watercolor KI? And the gameplay.. Seems like it should be a $20 arcade download title like Ninja Turtles Reshelled. It doesn't seem like they gave it much of a budget. Could've been a great AAA restart like Mortal Kombat successfully did. They're selling nostalgia over the game itself. I do miss that awesome character select music. That's a classic.
