It's confirmed: Double Helix is developing Killer Instinct....

So Rare is stuck doing Kinect Sports Rivals?

Yep. That's Microsoft Studios all right. Taking the IP right away from the original studio that made it popular in the first place.

So much for Rare's "AAA IP" being shown at launch. Maybe 2014, Microsoft?

Remember when people found out Dimps was developing SF4? Fun times, but meant nothing in the end.

It's not even a close comparison. Dimps had tons of ex capcom and snk guys and the president of the company was the guy that created street fighter. Unless double helix has some kind of ties to rare I'm unaware of its not even remotely the same

Why would you compare a 20 year-old game to current fighters?

There are old fighting games that are still played today (such as early Street Fighter games) because their central mechanics and balance are considered excellent and enduring. Wondering whether the same is true of KI.

It's not by Rare? What the fuck are those guys doing then? They are a pretty big studio and all they revealed was Kinect Sport Rivals?

I don't get it.

Seems like game-developers indulging their own nostalgia for a game that was simply bad.

Nobody under 40 will have heard of this game.

I'm honestly just very curious to see how it will play, KI was a very strange game, and it was kinda bloated with a lot of mechanics that were just clumsy IMO.

There seems to be some kind of bar underneath the combo counter that increases the more you hit people, I thought it might be how combo breakers would work, but Jago does one independent of the bar, so IDK.

Gees hyperbowl much. Rare have 3 teams it is likely we'll see them at gamescom with Lionhead as they're European studios so it fits better.

If the trailer is right and the game is really launching this year, I expect nothing more than a quick, low budget cashgrab. Really sad actually :(

Rare hasn't had multiple teams since pre-Nuts & Bolts.

Every employee in the company is either working on Kinect Sports, miscellaneous Kinect technology, or Avatar clothes.

I'm 32 and I remember playing the shit out of KI both in the arcade and on the SNES. Same goes for KI2 and Gold on N64. So yeah, your whole "nobody under 40 thing" doesn't hold water.

Double Helix? who in hell are they? wth?
Pretty much my feelings... The trailer had me pumped-ish, but hearing that it's by a studio whose portfolio is predominantly licensed shovel-ware, my optimism disappeared. Now granted, I've always thought Rocksteady sucked, and then came Arkham Asylum. *shrug*

That doesn't make sense. Most of the fighting games that are popular came out around the same time.

That's why you see various iterations of games that were once played by a generation of gamers who moved on once the new crowd showed up. Gamers are so used to sitting at home and playing games. I went to the arcade when I wanted to play fighting games and arcade sticks were rare to see. Now its a plethora.

Not feeling it. Killer Instinct was one of those 90s gimmick fighters that in retrospect was not very good (not a classic that is still playable like SF or most SNK stuff) Not really convinced Rare knows what their doing in regards to fighters. But if I get an Xbone I will likely try it out.

EDIT: Oh, it isn't being made by Rare? I need to learn reading comprehension.

Oh no hype killer. Makes no sense why they would not have Rare making this???
