"probably just means"? lol
In the video he clearly states that there will be a full version of the game, this is coming from a guy who played the game for hours at e3 and spoke with the developers for who knows how long.
There is no "F2P" version. There will be a demo at launch, in that demo you can use Jago for Arcade Mode and Multiplayer mode. If you want to use other characters, you can choose to buy the full game or buy only certain characters you want.
If they are releasing characters over time, then I'm sure it would be covered under the costs of buying the full game.
I was absoluetly not spreading misinformation. Max is not on the dev team and the "full version" thrown around probably just means 6 charecters at launch with the promise of more content later as has been speculated. From the devs mouths and that polygon article all they mentioned is you can download the jago edition for free or buy a season pass there was no mention of purchasing a full version.
From what Double Helix said it's not a demo. You have total access to the full game as Jago and you can buy characters a la carte. It's a smaller scale version of Drive ClubS+ Edition.
Does anyone want No Mercy in the new KI???
I really hope they have it![]()
One thing for sure, the messaging has been horrible. Nobobdy really knows what's going on. lol
I don't think the messaging has been horrible at all. IGN just muddied the waters with their article and it was quickly latched onto as a negative talking point for angry gamers and old KI fans pre DRM removal. It's also why we can't have a KI thread without someone going Double Helix Oh noeees!
the Devs have been quite open that the demo can be expanded upon...and that there would be an all in one version released day and date with the demo. The season stuff is akin to MK and injustice...extra characters that are separate from the characters in the full unlock.
How it stands.
Demo is free with jago and all modes available to use with him.
Full Version is all characters and stages released at launch.
Collectors version is the above with extra stuff (KI original has been hinted at)
Online is not that laggy in MK amd i justice yea maybe..other fighters??? SSFIV, MvC3, blazblue, soul calibur? They are fine.Online in fighting games tends to be laggy and some of us don't have alot of friends who are into fighters. MK and Injustice had robust single player modes that I know not to expect from this game but at least it should have a single player arcade mode where you fight through opponents and battle bosses to get an ending but Lobb said no bosses either so I have no idea what to expect come November.
what!? where? there is a 0% chance i could resist buying an xbone at launch if this game were there WITH the original KI/KI 2 on the collectors edition. make it happen MS and you can have my $500
the more I read about F2P, demo, season pass, and more characters over time. it really feels like the game wasn't ready for a November launch.
Was in one of the madkatz streams for this game. they were asked about the collector's edition and he said they had nothing to say about it at the moment but you could likely guess what is included. The interviewer said Killer Instinct 1...and Filthy Rich just smiled.
So not confirmed but heavily implied.
dang that would be awesome. wish they'd include KI2 as well!

After playing it at E3, and speaking to members of the dev team, and watching all of Maximillian's videos, I am officially hyped. Buying an Xbox One just for it. Especially if arcade ports of KI + KI2 are included.
Really hope they reveal Orchid at E3.
I believe that as of now it will only be a downloadable title but a lot of people at the DH forums are asking for a retail disc release. My guess (hope) is that there will at least be a special edition of the game that comes on a disc with extra stuff like KI1&2 HD remakes. I think Rich said that the MadCatz sticks will be available at launch also.Wait so will this also be a disc based game and the Arcade Stick is going to be there day 1, right?
Glad im not the only madperson doing this. I just hope MS/Rare/DoubleHelix delivers a meaty experience on launch day both single and multi. I have zero interest in their big "AAA" titles that they have been pushing at launch.
I have a madperson theory that maybe might make you feel at ease? When Jago is fighting, he has his high-pitched fighting voice. But when he wins, he has a very "voice actory" voice as a win quote. This could be because there will be some sorta story mode, or at the very least, voiced endings. A stretch I know, but it's something!
I would be happy with an arcade mode with multiple endings based on who you kill/UItra.
So, Microsoft is definitely trying to pimp this game. i tried it out the other day in Portland when Microsoft had a free concert with Weezer to support the opening of their new retail store (yes, seriously) and it was okay. The thing is, it's like most fighting games before their release. I remember watching/playing SFxTekken before it came out, and being unbelievably stoked about that. We all know how that turned out.
As it stands, it's fun? Sabrewulf is OP? Who cares, because the game will change and there's only two characters? I could continue, but I'm a little drunk from Portland BECOMING THE BEST MLS TEAM IN THE LEAGUE but ya know. It's fun? It seems like they rip off Street Fighter because the original KI is outdated? Whatever.
Well I guess the best thing to do is to wait until the game is close to finish because as it stands now I like everything I've seen of this game and I am not a Killer Instinct fan.
So, what's the FGC verdict about Killer Instinct? Hype or DOA?
For what it's worth, after playing it, I've completely 180'd on it. Feels miles better than anything Netherrealm has done.
This just appeared on my YouTube subscriptions:

God this game looks so much fun!

For people just joining, in order to save some digging, here be two sources that have clarified the f2p and retail version issue:

Carry on.
CEO, the last major fighting tournament before EVO is this weekend and MS is one of the sponsors. Hope it'll be there and playable.

There has been some recent confusion since the announcement that Killer Instinct will be free to play. Killer Instinct will launch digitally with one character (Jago) for free, and further new character can be purchased at an unkown price. Killer Instinct will also be offered as a retail version with all the characters at flat rate (presumably $59.99). In addition, there will be special/collectors editions to be announced post EVO 2013.
Willette says players will be able to purchase and download the game in three ways. First, they can download the base — which includes Jago, online play, a training mode and the basics — for free, then choose to purchase other characters and features piecemeal. Second, they can purchase the equivalent of a season pass and pay up-front to get all the characters and content for the game as they are released. Or third, they can pay for a special edition of the season pass that also includes bonus content.
"We haven't announced [what's in the special edition] yet, but I think hopefully most people can put two and two together," says Willette. Asked if it might be a port of the original Killer Instinct, Double Helix Design Director David Verfaillie just smiles.
Also, I don't know why some of you have such a huge complex about F2P there really isn't anything inherently wrong with the concept. Drive Club will have a F2P version with PS+ and Warframe will also be F2P and honestly both of those games look far superior to alot of the AAA offerings from both Sony and MS.
Nice to see a thread with some love for an Xbox One game. I'm not a huge fighting game fan, but I'll of course download the "demo" of Killer Instinct. I have a question, may have been answered. Will the online of this game be dedicated or p2p? Does p2p offer a better online experience for fighting games? I would assume so, but you guys seem to know what you're talking about.
Genuinely excited when it was announced.
A little let down when I saw its "next gen" graphics.
Seriously disappointed when I found out Rare was not making it.
Walked away when I saw that SH Homecoming studio was behind the game.
Great job MS, first perfect dark and now this...
Sorry if this has been brought up in these terms before, but regardless of how good the game will turn out to be (I'm cautiously optimistic myself by the way), isn't it the most ironic thing ever for Microsoft to finally return to the KI franchise since they bought up Rare but not have them develop it?
Again, regardless of how well Double Helix will do, this decision strikes me as being something that falls between very odd to downright malicious towards Rare (fans). Or is there any sign that Rare themselves simply didn't want to make new KI games (or any other games in their older series for that matter)?
These kind of strange turn of events aren't even that rare (no pun intended). One other recent example was with Double Fine and their Broken Age kickstarter. At that time Ron Gilbert was already working for them, but somehow he didn't want to get involved and reform his old super tag team with Shafer. Ok, he was working on The Cave then, true, but after that was done, he simply left entirely instead of joining the kickstarter project when he had the chance.
Both of these cases must be caused by behind the scenes politics and planning schedules (displaying again how rigid the games industry can be) because otherwise I can't really explain why these companies appear to not want use the best (wo)men for the job. (Or is that my answer right there: Rare / Ron Gilbert weren't the best for those jobs despite my beliefs?)
