I guess my love for Japanese shooters makes it easier to accept such a thing. People often buy the arcade boards for $1000-$2000+ when they are released. It makes $500 look like chump change (not that I'm wealthy).

Well, I'm definitely not spending $500 on a console just for one game, not even this.
It's merely a contributing factor.
I know this game is Microsoft's bait to get a certain demographic to buy the console and I know only an idiot would buy a console for one game... yet here I am. I feel defeated.
It's actually $600 because you'll need to buy an stick for the game too. Well I would need one because I won't use a gamepad.

Everyone is always talking about digital pads or arcade sticks; am I the only person that like analog sticks for fighting games?

no. i've only played on pads. However even I am thinking about getting a stick to see if there is an improvement. I hate the DS pad because it never works for me. controller too cluttered together.
I normally game on a 360, and I rarely have the problems I encounter when I play on a DS. Never understood why people say the DS is good for fighters it never was for me. I prefer tha analog for the 360 over the Dpad for both controllers.60fps, 1080p
EDIT: Beaten
Given the fact that you need to press HP+HK, MP+MK, and LP+LK on a regular basis, I don't know how well that will work on a pad. I'm sure you can figure out a good way to do it, but something like that just seems far easier on a stick.
I think just the fans on the DH forums.Any talk of Humiliations?

I don't think Thunder would be the best fit for the game's grappler. For one thing, unless Double Helix completely changed his fighting style, he fights wielding tomahawks. How can you grapple with weapons in your hands? And secondly, the tomahawks would also be projectile based. I see him as more of an aggressive rushdown, projectile based fighter because of the reasons above.
As for who should be the grappler... my initial thoughts was Orchid, but same deal with the weapons. They would serve as an obstacle to grappling. So I would have to go with TJ Combo. His KI2 design was devoid of the boxing gloves he wore in KI1 and he's a fast character. Not to mention he is a former professional, championship winning fighter. So I believe he'd be perfect with a rushdown/grappler fighting style.
I'm not quite sure why almost everyone is assuming Thunder will be the grappler anyway. Is it because we haven't had one yet and he's the next character announced so he would automatically be considered the grappler? Not really sure, but Thunder imo will not be and TJ Combo will.
Thoughts?
A lot of people are under the assumption that Thunder is going to be the "grappler" fighter for this game. Honestly, I don't think he will be. Here are some thoughts I have on the subject and why I don't believe it will be Thunder as well who I think would be the better suited.

A next gen Riptor gets me very excited. Next gen dinos!
Don't even joke about that.Feathers.

Next you're going to tell us Pluto isn't a planet.
Here's my crude shot in the dark at categorizing the OG roster into the "triangle":
** The order I've listed the subsets for each character indicates their priority within the playstyle. **
*** Further, the more subsets a character possesses, the less effective he/she is in any particular subset ***
Balance
- Jago (Rushdown / Zoning / Grappling / Mixup)
- Orchid (Rushdown / Mixup / Zoning / Grappling)
Mixup
- Riptor (Mixup / Rushdown)
- Sabrewulf (Rushdown / Mixup)
- Spinal (Rushdown / Mixup / Zoning)
Zoning
- Glacius (Zoning / Rushdown)
- Fulgore (Rushdown / Zoning)
- Cinder (Rushdown / Zoning / Mixup)
Grappling
- Thunder (Grappling / Rushdown)
- TJ Combo (Rushdown / Grappling)
I hope that wasn't confusing as all hell; this is what happens when you're bored on a stat holiday![]()
I've been thinking along very similar lines. I didn't work through each character but alot of them I did I would agree with you.
I could also easily see Tusk being another variation on Grappling while Maya would be primarily Rushdown and Kim Wu would be some sort of Mix Up.
A next-gen Spinal (from a technical aspect) and Cinder (from an art style aspect) gets me excited. I want to see all those beautiful next-gen lighting effects shining through a skeleton and someone whose skin is like that of the sun.
Has it been confirmed, or at least hinted at, that they will be creating some brand new characters for the game?
Yeah, but I could see them changing Cinder to molten lava instead of something like the Human Torch to save resources or something.
If there are two characters I don't want to see it's Maya and Tusk. No lasting appeal on either of those characters.
I would rather they just come up with new ones.
I thought about that as well. I hope they do not choose to go that route. I would consider that a cop out.
I understand the difficulties of making someone out of fire work (as in be aesthetically unique), but I hope they at least attempt it.
I think that they could use a molten lava form for when he goes dark and some cool some fx for when he goes invis.
I know I'm in the minority but I liked Tusk. A huge barbarian with a big ass sword, sure why not?
Maya could probably use a redesign but she was fun to use imo. I don't see why we can't eventually have all the characters from KI1 and 2 and some new characters added in. It's honestly not that many at all.

So when are they revealing Master Chief as a character?
So, no word on how we will be purchasing and playing this game yet, right?
Interest fading...

I can't see Thunder being a grappler at all. I mained him in KI1 and he had zero grappling moves. He had a controllable fireball, an AA, a slash move, and a diving attack. If anything, based on that moveset I'd put him in the balanced category. Probably more rushdown than zoning.
