What's funny is that it still does look like the old setting when they land. very dark, busy, windy, dirty. But as soon as you get to look ahead, it's like being teleported into a Teletubbies episode.
Compare the E307 Trailer with the Mr Fucking Convoy video 1.

Even on the landing it's different.

Sorry, not seeing it. Sure, now it has some colored lighting, but that's all.

Is this for real?

Yeah I should just wait for someone else to confirm it so it doesn't look like I'm talking out of my ass.

MotherH confirmed this though.

I don't have a link, but it was mentioned earlier in this thread.

OMG. My build stopped working. Wtf. I just get a red-screen of erroneous death now. FUUUUUCK!!!!! I'm going to slit my wrists now.

what difficulty level did you play on?

The normal one. Others are not selectable. But it wont change much I guess. The only thing that changes is the amount of damage you can deal/take. No consequences for the AI. So says a GG dev on the official PS forums.

Well, it's more apparent when you see with your own eyes on the screen.

Oh, fuck. My debug PS3 won't boot up anymore. Wtf. It's just a blank screen...this fucking sucks.

I know it's different, but it's still artistically close to the original. The whole level not so much. Th original version was like looking into the mouth of hell.

edit: oh wait your entire ps3 got fucked up eh, that really sucks.

I would think a higher difficulty would bring more enemies, no? From every other game Ive played the lower the difficulty the smaller number of enemies...up the difficulty and you get more. COd 4 was this way, Resistance....gears 1/2 etc..

Exactly! I'm beginning to believe that section was pumped up just for the Big Unveiling and then they scaled back late in production or something. I feel a little duped, to be honest.

The only thing that stands out as all that different from the original is the wind effect. I welcome the added color. The old one had a monotonous look to it.

Duped? Seriously? Wow...

You see one preview build vid on normal difficulty and come to this conclusion? Maybe the higher difficulty brings more enemies....relax man.

The later levels probably have something to its effect. I could see Guerilla taking things out of that level so that they could do something absolutely insane later on.

Who knows though, enough bitching and you might get your wish. We haven't seen the second half of the game, so they might be using that "scene" for something else.

Edit: Also, some journalists have made some dumb ass statements. For example Garnett complaining that some of the enemies onscreen were just "there" to be "there". Atmosphere toned back to give things significance?

It doesn't look like they downgraded it for technical purposes, but for artistical/game-design purposes. After all, isn't this the very first level of the game? They need to show contrasts between the "good" and the "bad" parts of Helghan.

The game looks phenomenal... but I have to agree with you and TTP. Where is the grain effect and overall grittiness?

Yeah, that scene in the unveiling really seemed like an endgame scenario after the shit had really hit the fan. The new one seems like a usual first bigger battle. I bet we'll be seeing something similar to that later on.

It's IGN Australia. The only times I've ever been linked to it is when they've posted some inflammatory article on a big upcoming game.

The look of the game is just different. Who knows though, the desert level is example enough that different flavors exist. So if your parade was fucked with Visari Square (which I prefer the new look), there is an alternative that exists.

No idea man. I'm locked to Normal. But I guess if anything more than just a damage tweak was in place, that GG developer over the PS board would have told it. Let me find the exact quote.

Edit:

Found it.
Question:
5. Also, regarding the AI, I've heard from a couple of sources that it's great. But when putting the game on harder difficulty levels, does the AI get even more aggressive, or do they simply take more bullets?

Answer:
5. They do more damage, you do less damage. It works.

This is the standard reply for big titles lately. MGS 4 suffered massive downgrades (Kojima confirmed this) and fans on here still defended the changes as artistic rather than technical. I think Killzone 2 looks amazing and I have been really enjoying the multiplayer .... I think the MP is better than basically ever shooter I've played all generation, with a few exceptions .... but I want my post-processed/desaturated/gritty game back. Maybe they'll give us an option to play with the grain filter, tho I have to believe the decision to remove it was because of how taxing hollywood-grade post-processing is on the hardware. Esthetically this game was going in a direction that few other games were going and I found the art style absolutely amazing. I'm very disappointed with the new look of certain aspects of the Preview Code. Sorry for being such a downer but where else can I voice my dissatisfaction than there (thankfully I'm not the only one).

Game looks spectacular.

But I must admit I was a little surprised at how TTP could just casually stand up and pick off bad guys (while being cheered on by his squad mates) without drawing any of their fire. Seemed a bit laid-back and not the hornets nest I remember from the E3 unveiling.

Cam Shea IGN:
Look, we're not saying the weapons in Killzone 2 are bad – it's a perfectly fine array. ...They just don't get us all that excited. ... Even the shotgun – that staple of the FPS genre – just isn't that compelling.

God this IGN guy is such a joke. What does he need to get off these days? Snuff videos? He is so fucking jaded he needs to quit gaming if this preview build did not get him excited. Either that or he is just a liar.

I've been in the beta for a while now. But these new SP videos still make me say WOW!

Downloads are going sooo slow :(

Convoy guy looks like he's aged 30 years.

Thats my only complaint. The voices are extremely awkward. It seems like the lip synching doesn't match up either. That cannot be a quick fix.

I could see why they took out the old voices though. Some of the things were a bit hard to understand. Hell I had to watch the initial trailer from 07 five or six times to fully comprehend what the fuck was being said.

They should have kept it, adds to the replayability.

Oh, and OMFG at the new vids!!

I know people like to knock on MGS4, but wasn't that original trailer just a target render anyway, running off a PC? I think most games these days always look a little different in the final product.

Some people really need to apply the Vagisil.

Game looks excellent. Confident GG will deliver on their intended vision of the game.

As much as I want to disagree with you, you kinda have a point. It's like they upped the sharpness are something. Not that it looks bad by any means, but in my opinion it took away from that gritty grungy look it originally had. Whether or not its a downgrade or a design decision would be left up to the consumer to decide.

Did a system reset and it's fine now. But the game simply won't go past a certain point. This sucks.

Visari square landing definitely looks different. The lighting has improved alot, and its more of a nighttime scene instead of a dust storm in the afternoon kind of thing. The dust and embers in the wind was really nice in the old version though.

Everything being darker really shows off the lighting engine but the exaggerated colored lighting is a bit strange.

The lip synching might be something that's not in place yet in the current build. I think they've toned down the swearing some, "push it down SHITHEAD!" was changed to "push it down rookie!" :P

Just looked at a quick compare between 07 footage and the new stuff. Lighting/shadowing and character detail is massively improvement when they're still flying over the city, no more pizza explosions either. :P Things that aren't in place now are the embers and the wind-blurring. Colors are way different, but it definitely has a more CG-look to it now. Actually looked a little bland in the 07 footage in comparison. Personally, I'd like the yellow a bit toned down. :P

these guys basically had an hour long presentation dedicated to how advanced the post-processing work is and now it's gone?! Shit, NGAI even wrote a big story about it. WTF, Tempy?

Yea I am definitely not digging the new look for Visari Square and some of the character models definitely look worse. Rico's voice is fucking AWFUL lol

Yeah me too I thought the previous version of mr convoy looked better

Latest firmware? When does it stop? What shows up exactly? Did it work before?

Is anybody else bothered by how the Helghasts' helmets seem to fly off everytime they get shot in the head? Kinda ruins their intimidating image without the top of the helmet...
