There's no aim assist for MP, but there is in SP. The beta version had it in MP, but it was taken out for the final version. Aim acceleration is also a little quicker in MP than in SP, but you won't really notice much difference.

oooh it's now been taken out of mp? hmm that's going to be interesting.

Not sure why they would need to fix it, it works fine for most of us who were in the MP beta. I get deadlier, more accurate shooting with a standard assault rifle over longer distances than most games, there is absolutely no resorting to "spray-and-pray" in the beta for me, it felt great, for those who are accustomed to the lock-on in COD4, it's time to learn to aim.

I think I would be well prepared, as I almost always turn aim assist off when I have the option and I still do decent-well.

He doesn't like the game because:

- Sev is shorter than the others which feeds on his inferiority complex
- you can shoot helmets off the Helghast but they don't chase them and try and put them back on.
- There are no Asians in the supporting cast
- The Helghast red eyes are cool but impractical (make them a glowing target).
- The troop transports that the ISA uses should have a roof on them

The only (maybe) good point he makes is that the game should "innovate more", he seems to like scenarios in FPS where it feels like you cannot win.

Overall I think it's a terrible "review". He spends most of the time babbling about the bullet points above, which are somewhere between silly and ridiculous.

At the end I was like "Ok so I shouldn't buy the game because of these reasons ??? Seriously ??".
Is that so called "review" for real??? WTF!

So wait...when I play this game...im gonna be wondering why there arent any Asians on my side cuz they know karate and can easily take on helghast amirite? Am I gonna wonder why on Vecta the helghast arent putting their mask on while about to get killed(cuz AI is that sophisticated right?)? Seriously if this guy aint nit-picking, then I dont know what to make of it. So im guessing in their Halo review, this shitty site talked about why a 7 foot tall robot is taking on purple non threatening looking aliens, while driving an alien car without a safety belt on. Not bashing Halo at all, just guessing what those retards had to say about Halo in their "review". ITS A GAME!

Oh look, Tom Chick whines about his favorite games getting mistreated too!

Quotes from his recent article, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences announces 2009 Achievement Award nominees

  • How is it that Saints Row 2 didn't get a single nomination?
  • How on earth did Rockstar not get Midnight Club Los Angeles into the racing game category?
  • Why didn't Microsoft get Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts into any categories? Not even a token "family games" nod?
  • I'm surprised Far Cry 2 wasn't put up for any technical awards.
  • Braid is a casual game? Ha ha.

The only category more absurd is the character performance category, which consists of four utter embarrassments and Sack Boy, who's cute but devoid of any actual character.

  • Gears of War 2 (Dom)
  • Gears of War 2 (Marcus)
  • LittleBigPlanet (Sackboy)
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Old Snake) <--- remember: he said, "utter embarrassment"
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld (Lara Croft)

As a guy who knows nothing about sports, the sports game nominations look like alphabet soup. There could be a cricket game in there for all I know.

Sports Game of the Year
  • FIFA 09
  • Madden NFL 09
  • MLB 08: The Show
  • NBA 2K9
  • NHL 09

And you came in here to post this, why?
Because shit like this makes me weep for this fucking medium that I love. OK. You guys love the game. Great. Enjoy it. But the constant denial of any criticism with calls of "who the fuck is this?" and "this guy sucks" and accusations of doing it "for the hits" or because of being an "XBot" (seriously, did you look at the comment thread in Tom Chick's review?)

I'm looking forward to giving this game a shot. But I don't understand why everything has to be an us vs them nerdfight. It's about as shallow and superficial as the stories in the games that people are arguing about. Are people so fucking self-centered that they react to any criticism of a luxury good (let's face it, videogames are. That's not meant to be dismissive.) as an affront to the whole of their being? Why can't we enjoy things and criticize them at the same time?

Besides, most of the people jumping on these guys' reviews haven't even played them game. Do you not realize how idiotic that is? And yes, I am a (quote:) shill because I'm interested in people's opinions before I play a game. GOD FORBID we should be exposed to negative, dissenting thought in a public forum about a game that many people will play.

I actually thought it was an enjoyable read, but it's hardly a review at all. It's basically just a rant about random, meaningless nitpicks.

I thought you were kidding, but no, that's basically it. It has to be satire.

Singularity,

What you are complaining about is a fairly well known human behavior.
It is not limited to this medium nor is it special to GAF.

Not sure what you expect to achieve by decrying that "behavior on the internet offends" but keep marching soldier.

Wrong, lot of people here were in the beta and others played and finish the single player :lol

I dont want sticky-aim, aim assist of any kind!! Im a little disappointed that there is some aim assist!!

Acceleration is the evil...

Yea, there's also a good criticism of the game from Chris Remo on the idlethumbs podcast regarding why the game is receiving 9s and 10s when it essentially doesn't really do much that's exceptional as an fps. Don't shoot the messenger.

The review was mostly critical of the single player, I didn't see much mention of multi at all. Most people here have not tried the single player yet.

Here comes the RDF (ReviewersDefenseForce). I've seen a few lurking in this thread emerging out as soon as some shitty review is criticized for valid reasons. And that fidgit review was the worst I have ever read. What a joke.

Erm, I'm all about laughing at bad reviews, but he didn't make as big a deal out of them as you're saying:

Indeed, the squad is a veritable rainbow of colors -- every race, color and creed is represented, except for Asians (sorry, Asians) -- while the Helghast predominantly consist of bald-headed white guys.

I know they're bald because I can shoot off their helmets. I love this moment so much, I can't even tell you. A well-placed bullet and ting, there goes the helmet. Maybe I'm imagining this, but enemies always seem to be chagrinned by the loss of their helmets. They hide for a moment. They reach up and touch their exposed heads. They seem to curse under their breaths. My only wish was that Guerrilla had carried this exchange one step further, and had the enemies actually chase after their missing helmets, and attempt to return them to their bare pates.

Just saying, your summary is very misleading, considering how many people you've led on.

OK, just to make sure, Auto-aim has been COMPLETELY taken out of MP confirmed? I'm definitely not a fan of auto-aim and when i played R2, it was so obvious.

the people coming in and specifically posting negative reviews and comments are as worthy as your ire as anyone criticizing reviewers for any nit picks. don't forget that.

You guys need to stop being so elitist, complaining about the lack of any sort of aim-assist in a console shooter is understandable. Ok, he has gone a little too far on that one, but hey, you're going to play this game with joystick, not with a mouse/keyboard combo. It should at least be mentioned in most reviews that this game is much more demanding than R2 or CoD4.

That said, most reviews are like this, the author hates a game because of some feature, but for some people those "flaws" are what makes the game awesome.

The Crispy review has a disclaimer at the end noting it's only based on single player because no one can really test multiplayer yet since the game hasn't come out. There will be a later review of multiplayer.

Are you only skilled with the sniper rifle? :p

yep LOL

At the end of the Beta anyway, after playing as a sniper for like 60 consecutive hours you kinds get a little rusty you know? :p
aka I sucked royally!

At first I was really good with the rifle, then awesome with the shotgun. I finished top in our only GAF clan match being an engineer with the shotty. :p

I just need to use a lot of the classes and not stick to just one. I'm planning on being a sniper every time I'm helghast but with the ISA I'll be one of the other classes each time, that way hopefully I'll be able to remain decent with most of the main weapons.

Cruzader said:

They're a person's opinion of a videogame, so yes it's totally acceptable.

Please stop getting angry about what someone thinks about your toys.

Also, the guys with the Killzone avatars going apeshit over any Killzone information that's not glowingly positive smacks of company shillery. I mean, I know some of you have been here for years and years on GAF, but it's really questionable to be so overly touchy about this game before you've played it.

It reminds me of some of the SOCOM stuff before that shipped and turned out to be a giant steaming pile of bugs and barely any content. Maybe just relax and take it all in until you get to play the finished product, eh?

Has Sony ever region locked a demo? I mean say I download KZ2 from the EU store is there a chance Sony will prevent it from playing on US consoles? I mean this has never been an issue on PSN with RE5 (though MS/Capcom did lock it on the 360), Valkyria Chronicles, or anything else I can think of. I just wanted to double check. I got my last grade in today (after having the the final a month later due to a snow closing) and it was pretty damn good, so I look forward to playing some KZ2 to celebrate tomorrow.

Thanks!

pretty weak witch hunting you got going on here.
The point is, Tom Chick rants and whines like everyone else. What makes it worse though, is that he's complaining about the collective opinions of a large sample of critics, whereas people here are just complaining about one guy. My stance- and I think I'm free to have it, oh please, kind sir- is that if I haven't played/seen/used a product myself yet, the talking points that matter most to me are the ones that are addressed by a large percentage of the reviews. If someone wants to break away from that mold and go on a tear, it can sometimes be attributed to experiencing a series of bad luck with the game that subconsciously builds up pessimism for the rest of their time with the product. It happens in professional game reviews, and even more often in product reviews on sites like Amazon and Newegg. It's how humans are.

Some complaints just doesn't make sense.
