Game desperately needs crouch toggle. Desperately. Also the yellow line grenades have looks a bit out of place.

After trying it out, I will definitely play this without HUD or crosshair, so much more fun, imo. I'm a member of the no-HUD brigade, though, so that goes for every game that allows that. :D
Yeah, that would solve a bunch of problems...they are going to implement that in the final game, yeah?

Imagine Gears if you had to hold down a button for cover. I'd be more willing to use it if so.

Speaking of the knife, how do you take it out? When I use a grenade the little icon appears on the screen but I don't know how to use it. Is it on the D-pad, I never messed with that.

Someone knows how old is the demo build ? My friend says that this is the same lipsia demo and the final version has better shadows... someone knows something about this ? :)

Just make one up.

I put UK, then London, then France and it took it.

DL is going around 300kB/s

I use the same control scheme here! I love it. :D Yeah, I'm using an extra finger I wouldn't normally use while playing fps games, but I got used to it. Man, I got through this demo pretty quick though. Makes me want the full game even more now. The default sensitivity does feel heavier here in this demo. But I cranked the horizontal sensitivity two below the highest setting and it feels perfect to me. :D
Yea, using the extra finger took a bit of getting used to. I wouldnt normally use it like this either but it just feels right after getting used to it. Yea there is a lot more weight when compared to the multiplayer demo. Especially while you're running. I think it's just setup like that for the single player because they want you to have everything you do be somewhat thought out and deliberate.

Man, I cant wait for the full game. I'm definitely playing on ELITE mode the 1st time through.

Yeah they pushed us ISA peepz to the beach, not only that, but they took up positions accordingly as we fell back. Awesome.

Right on the d-pad.

Do I need to start a crouch toggle defense force or what. I really hope they implement that.

Love both the visual and audio design in this game, btw. Powerful stuff.

Absolutely. Alt 2 is already the best scheme, toggle crouch would make it near perfect.

Oh what the fuck, can you seriously not map iron sights to L2 or am I doing something horribly wrong? For the love of christ, someone tell me this is not the case.

Wow, I think they may give you a little too much compensation for shooting from the hip. (or not enough scoped in, perhaps) MUCH easier now. I don't think I've ever torn through guys this quickly by shooting from the hip in a game where you're clearly supposed to be using the scope. :lol

Not sure what you'd need a defense force for. I think the general consensus is that the option would be highly appreciated.

L1 only, in Alt 2.

Okay, so I just finished the demo. This is my first time playing the game as I was not in the beta, so here are my impressions as someone who does not really care much for FPS games:

First off, the game is absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a game so clean... I found myself staring at the set pieces at times instead of following my teammates. There's no aliasing, it's unbelievable! Even the shadows are clean. Oh, and I didn't see any framerate issues.

Secondly, the controls. After reading some of the complaints here I was a bit worried, but really... I had no issue whatsoever. I found them comfortable and absolutely natural, no real learning curve or anything. I used the default setting, by the way. Very smooth, very nice. Didn't find myself having trouble even with a lot of enemies coming at me at once. I find shooting from R1 to be really easy for me and couldn't imagine trying to use R2.

Even though the demo was a bit short... it did give me a good idea on what the full game would be like. The AI is pretty sharp, but I managed to get through without dying, though I came close once inside the warehouse... All in all, as someone who rarely plays FPS, I will be picking up Killzone 2 come February 27th. I feel that if I don't, I'll be missing out on one of the best games this generation. It's not often the hype turns out to be real.

The gun models are probably the best I've seen since Crysis. They do a really really great job of rendering the metal. It's especially noticeable with the rocket launcher.

Yea! The more I play, the more I see the AI doing more and more impressive things. Every so often, I just start getting shot in the back or melee'd from behind. I love how they can actually lose you too.

Cant wait to see their next iteration of this AI.

ALT - 2
Hold Zoom
Toggle Crouch

bah, i don't understand how anyone could be fine with the Alt 2 scheme. standard 1 is perfect for me. then again, i don't play a lot of cod

Bam! Perfect.

They should just give an option to switch between toggle/hold on zoom and crouch, problem solved, everyone happy.

Why u wanna map ironsights to L2?

Controls seem fine to me at default. You dont really need to fine aim unless you are really far away, which is cool. Too many FPS games want you to fine aim for everything these days.

Didnt really have a problem shooting the enemies, and well...unless you're one of those gamers who HAS to headshot every single enemy...there should be no problems.

I was soo into it man, i forgot i was playing a demo. Then the screen went black and i came to realize the demo ended T___T. This game is fucking epic.

I agree but I think it'll make the gameplay more like Gears's "stop n pop". Just get used to using 2 fingers with the ALT 2 config. It really works once you get pass that. :D

I dont even like COD4 but Alt 2 works for me.
I can actually play either way but I like it like that more.

What I don't understand is anyone using the alt 2 scheme + zoom hold, since with a lack of a crouch toggle, it means everytime you get into cover and use ironsights you have to hold down both L1 + L2 that entire time.

Cramps ahoy.

Standard is perfect for me too. Alt 2 is fine too I guess but you can fire from the hip effectively so you don't need the ironsights all the time.

That seems like shoving a COD style model into a game that doesn't necessarily play like COD. But the familiarity might help people.

btw if you SPRINT out the last door of the demo you can get a few extra seconds of gameplay, lol

While that is true, it's pretty much guaranteed that any game I would go out on a limb and recommend to people is great.

I just played the demo like 12 times on Justin.tv for people who kept coming in and asking for more more more.

Played it with knife only, pistol only, melee only (any weapon), and then a lot of the times I just did my best to showcase the visuals without too much crap making the Flash encoder spit out a garbled mess. Sucked playing at 480i though, lol. Some of my friends are coming over this afternoon to play it in HD :D

Oh and thanks for posting my video again. Anyone who doesn't want to download the MP4, at least check out the high quality YouTube version. I played this on Justin.tv as well!

Exactly. That's why we need a little thing called
crouch toggle

Yup, that's the way I'm playing it currently. It's def workable. Still, it's such a no-brainer to provide the option. I love the way first person cover is implemented in the game, would be a shame if the controls would lead to me not using it as much as I like.

Good God, the video after the demo ends was amazing.

Gameplay gave me orgasms. Just like the beta did. This game will propel my sexual life into overdrive.

mr_nothin said:
There's not lag. There actually IS acceleration of that kind. It just caps off after about 1 sec.
There's just more of the acceleration if you flick the analog stick. If you do smaller movement, there's not as much acceleration. I dont think they just used 1 acceleration "sensitivity/setting". It seems dynamic.
The only acceleration I can sense is when I quickly press the stick all the way- it takes about a quarter of a second for it to get up to accelerate to full speed. But I don't feel the acceleration when pressing the stick lightly.

And the lag is more of a timing deadzone. To understand it, flick the analog as briefly as you can. You will not turn at all. If it were lag, you'd still turn. I believe this deadzone is intentional, as it aids in preventing you from flinching too far when finetuning your aim. It just takes time to get used to. I think it's best to analyze these things because the better we understand the how and the why, the sooner the controls can be mastered.

hmmm

Maybe I should try that more often. But I love the satisfying feeling of a well-placed headshot/volley after I see them in my ironsights. Come to think of it, I don't even know when I started using fine aim so prominently, but it's been a couple years (Rogue Spear and SWAT?). Going back to the hip will be hard. :(

Hahaha no it won't.
It's already gave me three orgasms from playing it a total of what I'd say is 4-5 hours, including beta time. Prolonged sessions of Killzone 2? Yikes.

Yes, yes it will indeed.

- I love how the HGH Sta-52 assault rifle squeaks when you slam back the last piece during the reload. Ghetto tech.

- Headshotting with the Sta-14 rifle is fun.

- The four metal plates holding the small propane tubes in their place in the cabinets: if you shoot out the plates from the top and downwards, you can pick off all four. If you shoot out the bottom one, the top ones will collapse accordingly.

- Enemy soundbytes are MASSIVELY improved over the original. :lol I think my fave is "take out that barrel!".

- I played and restarted the first section of the warehouse maybe 20 times in a row, and new stuff happened pretty much every time.

Soooo good.

TTP is absolutely right when he says that the standard controls are the way to go, I was playing with Alt. 2, but the standard are really good when you use cover. I'm not sure however if in MP they work as well as Alt.2

Having recently almost completed CoD4 on veteran (I need your help dude :), makes Alt 2 my favorite scheme.

But I completely agree with the no HUD thing. I've never played a FPS without a crosshair. But with Killzone, it works fine. I'm seriously thinking about playing the whole game without any HUD or crosshair.

Oh yeah, this game looks sick!

Crouch toggle, this game needs crouch toggle. CT + Alt.2 = full of win.

Yeah, I can definitely play with the standard so it's not gonna be a real problem. I would like to play with alt 2 since I prefer aiming with L1 and I don't like using R3 for that, but using that configuration makes it horrible to shoot from cover. So the standard it is for me. I've played through the demo four-five times now. I'm really liking it, but obviously I would have liked it to be somewhat longer or a MP demo.

I just bought a 1080p tv (Samsung LN40A650) and I wish this game was 1080p, but it still looks great. I get some strange blue dots flickering in dark places, I need to figure out how to get rid of this. I usually play games with default controls, but I hate how zoom is R3.

As everyone else said, I wish the demo was longer, but i'll probably replay it many times.
