Played through the demo once, once and wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I'd be. Graphically it looks good but I haven't been smoking the hopium as some other's have. I'm still getting the game on release though, hopefully MP is as fun as everyone makes it sound.

Usually I cannot get him to, when I do (by luck) I never find the gun.
Shoot the guy in the legs. It should make him fall and drop the gun.

I always just hit him in the legs a few times until he moves around closer to the edge over the door, and then pump his legs full of bullets to make him fall over forward. If you run back up the steps instead of staying on the warehouse floor, you can get a really good vantage point on him and everyone else. It's always fell a bit to the right of the door for me, I grab it on my way to cover Garza as he hacks the control box.

why is everyone having so much trouble with the gamma??? If you have a HDTV google the calibration settings for your specific tv. It did wonders for my toshiba regza, although it took me a few days of playing around to find exactly the picture i liked.
What settings do you have, I have a regza also.

Don't know about the other Beta testers but for me this was the only online shooter where I really gave a damn about my place on the rankings. During the Beta I would just leave my PS3 on the KZ2 menu screen, or the stats screen because I knew in an hour or so I'd be back to play again. KZ2 was my operating system for those two months :p

So I took a capture of the the top 10 and top 15 (just to make sure mr_nothing was there way down in 15th :p) I wish I took more detailed screens actually rather than just the standard stats rankings. but anyway, here they are:

TOP 10

TOP 15

Watch out for those players! ;)

I finally got a chance to try the demo yesterday. And honestly, the controls aren't that bad. I still don't feel like I have a great grasp on it, but it never actually hindered me, which was something I worried about.

On to a bit more meat, the combat was visceral and satisfying, and the pace was much faster than I had expected, which was a major plus. I didn't really notice if the AI was that good or not, but I might pick up on that with another play through or two.

I died twice in the demo. Once because I didn't run forward with my squad and once because I didn't notice an enemy. To me that is a good level of challenge for the normal mode. Just enough to punish me for stupid mistakes, but not enough to mean that I can't muck about. That bodes well for the other difficulties.

The technical prowess of the graphics engine is stunning. The lighting is awesome and the explosions are spectacular. I still dislike the art style, but that's personal preference only.

All in all, I don't think Killzone 2 is going to become my favorite console FPS ever. But those who do feel that way and claim that will have some strong legs to stand on. And this, from someone that hated Killzone 1 with a passion. I am very excited to have been so wrong.

Seem alot of people are fianlly getting use to the controls today :)

Eh I would have been up there if I had enough time ;)

God I'm really starting to love the controls as well I can now no scope headshot the enemies on the bridge.:D The online is really going to be amazing because of the lack of auto aim when in iron sights.

Wasn't a fan of KZ1, either. I almost feel the same way you do except I enjoyed the art style.

Euro GAF assemble!

I'm sure this has probably been discussed ad nauseum on this forum, but like many others I avoided KZ2 topics for various reasons and I am curious about something.

Does KZ2 online multiplayer utlilize your pre existing PSN accounts or will this be the MGO nuisance all over again? Also, does it have both ranked and unranked modes and is the matchup system pretty solid so I don't immediately get raped by someone who played a thousand times in the betas?

All in all this demo was pretty good and convinced me the game was buy-worthy. I rented kZ1 back when it came out and never bothered to get more than 20% of the way through, and this seems to fix most of what I hated about the gameplay of the first one.

I don't think it's that big of a deal really. What kind of TV do you have though? Turning the backlight and gamma up a bit on my TV got it showing with the slider at its default (half-way) place. I was actually adjusting my TV settings separately though, I wouldn't set your TV just to show that symbol. Do what looks best.

Also, changing your PS3's RGB settings from full to limited would probably help a bunch. Would make your colors look worse if your TV supports RGB full though.

Yeah I didn't make a big diffence. I played in cinema mode instead on my TV :D Look interesting. The lighting in the warehouse is different.

Also do most servers implement friendly fire? I hope there is settable autokick features for TK'ers.

It's a Sony game so yeah of course it's only gonna use PSN :)

You can play with bots so you don't even have to play with people at all if you wish. Or you can play with a mix of both. Use that to gain experience and get familiar with the maps.

In regards to matchup, you can set it to "play with my rank only" so you only play with people who at the same rank and have unlocked the same number of classes as you. So there won't be any cloaked snipers or anything in your game until you're at the top rank and are ready for it.

Haha,

Man I couldnt play the beta for the last couple of days. My friend wanted to try to play it again. (he's the 1 that doesnt like KZ2). He decides to keep playing it constantly and still not like it...meanwhile, I was over here going through a KZ2 withdrawal. I was locked out so much that I couldnt keep my stats up. He actually killed my stats. My KD ratio is much lower because of him.

Show the headshots! I think I was still 1st, i'd be sad if I wasnt :/
ARGH!

Also, a couple of those guy were glitchers/hackers. I'm pretty sure the guy with the 3.44 KD ratio was one of them.

Posted this in the demo thread, might as well post it here too:

I was one of the few on GAF that was hyped for this game way back at E3 07 but recently my hype meter has kind of toned down (thanks to a new PC and GAF going crazy about this game). Anyways, I was still willing to give the demo a try...and I'm glad I did.

Overall the game is great. The controls are going to take me a while to get used to (I've played the demo a handful of times already and still don't quite have a handle on it yet), but on the other hand I love the weighty-ness of the guns. I guess you could say it's more realistic, but it's unlike any other shooter I've played before in that the guns feel so damn powerful. Needless to say, I'm not on the fence about this game anymore. Just preordered off of amazon.

Btw, based off of my impressions of the demo, I feel that KZ2 is a perfect example of a console shooter and not a PC shooter shoe-horned into a console. I don't think it could be replicated that well on a PC because of the sluggish controls (that'd be incredibly frustrating with a mouse).

Well done to the guy who called out Frillen - you said what we were all thinking.

From the demo - the technical masterpiece goes beyond jus the GFX and lighting. Bullet hit animation is incredible. The sound design is the best since CoD4. Other small things that need mentioning: bullet holes stay in the wall forever, blood stains stay forever.

I noticed bullet holes disappearing in the filing cabinets in that one room overlooking the warehouse. But yeah, I love shooting the cans, fans, tables, skids, everything just to see what happens. It's such a nice change compared to other games where the debris is actually a mound of textures connected to the environment.

You have to get the controls out of the way first, before you'll notice the AI. They don't stay alive that long, but they do cool stuff while they are and the animation sells it very convincingly. The way they run away, jump over stuff, use grenades, use cover, blindfire, go prone, charge you to melee...it's all very neat and awesome to look at. The have good behaviour repertoire that makes it fun the engage them in combat. I like the AI a lot, when they run away from you or to cover it feels like they want to preserve their life.

what do you mean, they try and take cover (and damn good at it) and kill you just like you're doing to them, I dont understand, do you want them to do banzai attacks?

I'm playing on the hardest difficulty, and I'm getting flanked and flushed out with grenades all the time. Its AWESOME

Edit: Not the hardest hardest, you have to unlock that

Flank more. Pin me down more. Make my palms sweat more. Try to fuck me up more when I'm running straight at them w/ a handgun. I think the enemy melee animation takes too long and by the time they go to hit you, they are down and out like a mofo.

Tieno: good post - I like that they have a strong sense of self-preservation as well, but I don't know - i want them to go a little more banzai on my ass too.

The dude the 3.44 is right, but he was only a scout. With the scout the easiness of keeping a high KDR is apparent. It's funny he did play mostly smaller rooms and just plop down and snipe. What's funny is that his objective stats were next to nothin.

I actually wanted to do some little tests in the warehouse of the A.I. I was hiding around that big shelf to the left (right below the platform where you walk in) just to see what they'd do as I wasn't shooting back. Once one threw a grenade to my right, forcing me into an incoming flank to the left. Another time they threw a grenade to my right again, then there was one thrown off the wall to my left, so i had to sprint back to the right where there was one there, and another aiming waiting on me to come out. It does sometimes do some interesting things.

As far as running up to them and not doing anything, I'm guessing it's a difficultly setting issue. I'd imagine on harder settings you'd get lit up, so we'll just have to wait and see.

why is everyone having so much trouble with the gamma??? If you have a HDTV google the calibration settings for your specific tv.

The game is too damned dark out of the box. It's not a matter of calibration of the set either as mine was calibrated. I cranked up the gamma in game and it was still pitch black in that box. I had to actually adjust the TV itself, which I wasn't too happy that I had to do it, but it fixed it.

Sir pennington my brand new fake euro account who hales from shropshire (apparently a real place?!) just downloaded and played through the killzone 2 demo.

me rikey it vedee much. It looks awesome, maybe not quite as stunning as that original video but amazingly close, holds a constant framerate, no screen tearing and there's a ton of shit going on onscreen. As with all first party sony games the 7.1 sound is a nice touch and works rather well and sealing you into the game world obvivious to roomates calling you from outside of your gaming area :P

The control complaints I'm not sure I understand... the game feels like every fps since halo to me , sure it's definetly slower but it's not so much that the controls are unresponsive, it's more so that shooting, tossing grenades, jumping/running whatever, everything is moving at a closer to realistic level. I also get a kick out of the arnold schwarzenhagger soundalike enemies screaming "fuck" after you shoot off their helmuts or toss a 'nade in their midst.

I was rather impressed by this demo, I have to say that killzone 2 went from not even being on my radar at all to possibly being a purchase. It comes out around the same time as SF4 though... anyone want to buy some of my old crap ? :P

And I'm surprised about the length of the game. Like it - the varierty of environments is great.

damn, guerilla did an awesome job.

They may be more aggressive at higher difficulties. Remember that there are two difficulty levels above the one the demo is locked at. It's possible the only change is the damage they take versus the damage they give, but I assume their tactics change as well, similar to Crysis' A.I. at higher levels.

I've seen the A.I. in the demo do some neat things, like that guy who sits on the roof in the warehouse with the STA14 rifle. One time I was directly below him on the platform and he would peg me with a shot while I was distracted with other enemies, then move back and out of my view when I looked up at him, and then come back and hit me again. I was like wtf.

I ended up just observing him for a bit while he was doing that slick hit-and-move maneuver, since I was impressed that he seemed smart enough to know that I couldn't shoot him if he simply moved backwards. It seems basic, but it's rare to see that sort of thing in gaming A.I.

Nope. But I play on one of those old nice Sony Super Fine Pitch HD CRT sets, which have great black levels. I think it's just that GG didn't figure on people playing on those old sets and figured the masses will be playing on contrast challenged LCDs.
