Crap...maybe they will include KZ1 cut scenes on a special edition disc or something. I don't know much about the back story.

Just look up "Scholar Visari Speech" on Youtube and you'll get a good jist of the backstory. To be honest, there isn't really much story in Killzone. So much wasted potential... :[

How are the shadows in this game?

The shadows...you have no idea how good the lighting is in this game. It shows up in vids, but it stuns in person.

Dynamic lighting, high rez shadow maps.

The muzzle flash properly casts shadows on environmental objects.

Broken debris casts shadows as they fall.

The way your gun reacts to the lighting....hoooooolllllyy shit

The light rays....I don't even know how they are creating that effect.

The lighting is so damn stunning. This is the best lighting model I've seen in a game period. MotorStorm 2 has awesome lighting and it doesn't even manage to get close.

Is firing from the hip as inaccurate as it is in COD4, or are the iron sights mostly reserved for longer distance shots?

Firing from the hip is very accurate, and in fact, the preferred method when up close or even medium range.

The iron sights are used almost exclusively for relatively long distance shooting.

Yeah, I really dig the whole squad spawning aspect. There are so many refreshing and unique ideas that make the game really shine. I didn't even really utilize squad respawning until today when someone kept talking about it on the mic :lol. Goddamn I love this game - I just wish you guys stayed in for 1 more round. :lol

So does it live up to the hype or what? :)

I think right now it doesn't need to even TRY to live up to the hype, it's already way past that, it's got FUCKING AWESOME-WOWSOMENESS. I would have stayed had each objective not been set to FUCKING TEN MINUTES EACH LOLZ, if I go another round it's going to be like 3AM, each time we play a set of five it's like an hour.

If this MP videos are real it actually surpasses the hype. I can't stop watching the videos and thinking how the fuck can they do all that shit?

Ah, nice to know. It's gonna be hard to break the habit is constantly looking down the sights. COD4 has forever changed shooters for me. :p

Everything that should cast fucking shadows cast fucking shadows, REAL shadows, not some fucking blob shit that fades in and out or some fucking baked bullshit shadow maps that does nothing to your gun and other characters on screen. It's got better shadows in MP than the SP of every one of those so-called fucking "AAA" console shooters that sites like gametrailers and 1UP would hype.

Awesome.

Man the only thing this game needs is matchmaking and ranked games, but I have a feeling we're not going to get either..

big disappointment if true

there are no parties in the beta, so you cannot create one and have all your friends join....

they need to add better UI to the final product. I HATE syncing, I hate 'logging in'.

It's incredible that they manage to make a phenomenal game but the UI isn't nearly as good as Resistance 2's.

Normally most matches last like 25-30 minutes but if the objectives aren't really attempted, matches can go on for an hour or so, so yeah - it's definitely an investment in time. I hope Sony puts up some dedicated servers for the game and really pushes it because this game can push the PS3 like no game on the system. The fact that it's bloody as all hell, looks insane and is a shooter makes me think the market for it will be huge and move systems like Wii Sports did. Gears of Wars lovers will be jealous, that's for sure. :)

Firing from the hip is pretty accurate so you can do it in short and medium range situation, when you need to move and shoot, you usually won't see any crazy circle-strafing. Ironsights can be used for long distance and precision shots, it's more of a zoom than that bullshit lock-on that COD4 ironsights was. It's pretty fucking close to perfect at this point, I don't think they should even touch anything in terms of game mechanics.

I think everyone will get the game and start up the MP and be like..."this looks great but where's that OMFG AWESOME WOWSOME shit everybody was talking about"...because it starts off like a regular shooter. You don't have any abilities and everybody is a noob and nobody utilizes the squads. And everybody tries to play it like COD4 or any other run and gun shooter. But as soon as you unlock the medic class and see just how much of the gameplay changes up by unlocking JUST 1 class (even without the 2ndary ability) it really starts to set in. When the game starts to click with you, its a really good feeling. When you have 2 really good teams where both sides use squads and actually work together...its so crazy!

And after I die in a big firefight and i've killed a few people....and after i've been revived a couple of times and after I get blown up with 3 other guys RIGHT after I defused that bomb that they planted. I sit there with a OMFG smile.

There are soo many moments like that in just 1 match. It's really crazy.

It would be really neat if your stats from SP carried over to MP so you unlock stuff without even playing MP.

They aren't going to have ranked matches or leaderboards? Are they going to at least have stat tracking?

Stat tracking is already there and they stat track alot of stuff too.
Matchmaking is already kind of sorta there with the "my rank only" option.
I dont too much care for matchmaking anyways.

I would love a party system though.
But once you join a server, you can usually just stay in there and stay with the same people. Nobody just gets up and leave after a match like they do in COD4.

Jack Scofield said:

like I keep saying, think CS. Some players will be able to long distance without iron sights.

Ahh, just finished my last match. WOW. This game just gets better and better as you and everyone else levels up. Better guns, Lots of medics, and some really intense firefights. I especially love it when there is like 8 on 8 in any given area just going at it.

I agree with those that say that the shooting mechanics are perfect. I really hope they don't mess with it, thus making the final build feel awkward. I love everything about aiming, shooting, straffing, and flanking. Ironsights, and scopes feel very visceral, and can be really satisfying picking dudes off in the distance. In my own opinion everything is done really well and I never feel frustrated

Wow, I must have played like 5 hours straight, and I never once felt any fatigue. The game is just fucking fun. There is a sense of urgency when you get picked off in the middle of a serious firefight, and respawn only to be rushing right back into battle. The best part is, no one is safe. There is litterally no real hiding place. I was picking guys off camping out on roof tops, bridges, and allyways.

Do you think the MP is good enough to be the new R1 clan game?

The lighting in this game is what is grabbing my attention. Thing is this game has a visual style to it as well. That along with its amazing lighting is just mesmerizing. You see things that you wouldn't (and I don't) in a game like Cysis.

It might also be do to the fact that for some reason in this game it seems like your so much closer to the action. In CoD4 for example you never really see people you shoot. Here its in your face and blood splattering goodness.

here is the debris affecting the lighting. Amazing gifs on first 2 pages.

Doesn't sound like they want to do matchmaking. Right now its a lobby system with rolling game modes right? So whats the point of matchmaking when you have a system in place already? Besides there are pros and cons to each system and personally I hate matchmaking. Much rather have a server/lobby list. If you don't want to play with people above your level then go with the my rank only option.

Dude, MP blows anything out of the water on consoles right now, so yeah, this will be the shooter that finally replaces Halo 3 for me as the one I play for a loooong, looooong time.

This game will resurrect the R1 clan and so much more

Matchmaking keeps teams even though.

And you can easily join a game and have it 'auto-configure' based upon your party number.

I like having a party of people, talking in a lobby casually before starting up a game, and then searching for one.

The way KZ2's system works, there's not really much of a break between matches...sometimes you need that

Yeah, it definitely can't match Crysis from a purely technical standpoint (no console can at this time), but this game really does some astounding things with lighting, physics, and animation that make it every bit as impressive (in some places more so) considering its scale.

My ps3 has been laying dormant for quite some time. I guess it's too late to get in on this beta huh. :(

It seems so. The beta seems small(at least for players in the US region)

they're working on some very very cool things on the website, not everything above might be addressed but there will be other things that will surprise you.

It not just that though. While it does have the technical stuff down it does so much more it seems like. Just from watching videos its a much more in your face game and because of that you notice a lot more. Then on top of that it has a visual style that makes the light have more contrast and makes the models pop out more then a game like Cysis has.

The devs have been saying it now forever. Everything is exaggerated just enough and its coming through in all aspects of the game. The lighting isn't trying to be true to life realistic but it has so much impact in the way they did it everything just seems to pop but at the same time not seem out of place. Games like CoD and Cysis seem flat almost when you watch them.

So impressive to me that it put the PS3 over the edge for me. Gonna start saving up now. :D This GT5 and a handful of games already out are just too much to pass up.

Glad so many people are seeing the light now. I was having trouble shutting up about how AFW this game is when I was in the phase 2 beta. :D

The dude is in the library and that white snowy stuff ... it's book snippets :lol

The particle fx in this game is second to none.

Blood Gracht becomes a freaking nightmare when you've got a bunch of rocket launcher obsessed people on the map. They don't care if they're taking out their own team when they're firing those things.

I really hope there is an open beta.

From the closed beta, is hosting done by dedicated servers (R2 style), or P2P (ala Gears of War 2 and COD4/WAW)?

There's a pile of backstory stuff on www.killzone.com - about 250 years worth.

In addition all the Killzone 1 cutscenes are viewable on Youtube. Someone called 'Mommydearest' or some permutation thereof, uploaded them.

I'm getting jealous now. My lack of faith led to me not even trying to make my way into the beta. Now I need to see if all this hype is true

I basically don't bother anymore if I notice Blood Gracht or Radec Academy are full of rocket spammers. Thankfully, I haven't gotten into a lot of crappy games so far.

Perhaps some disagree, but I find that the game plays the best when it is 8 v 8 on all maps.

I think 32 players is a great option to support, but it gets a bit too chaotic.

16 is really the ideal number to me, and I hope that's the number you will see in ranked matches (8 v 8)

Not only that. There is a quick match option as well that puts you right into a match based on your preferences, without having to select it from a list of available games.

Kinda like what Incognito did in Warhawk with one of the latest patches.

I've ran into BG like that twice now and it's really frustrating. You basically just have to camp out in an alley because rockets are constantly flying everywhere.

I'm not even too fond of BG when it doesn't have people doing that. It's just way too cramped and hectic for my liking.

Agreed. 8v8 is the perfect number for me on all the maps.
