Come on GAF. You all should know by now that video game reviews/previews are not trustworthy anymore... especially coming from fanboy/moneyhat sites like Gamespot and 1UP. The only site I somewhat trust these days is IGN and even they are iffy at times.

The best review is either rental and/or word of mouth from trusted friends and like-minded gamers.

You speak the truth good sir.
Except about IGN, GodHand review .... never forget

Precisely. You can't deform the terrain and you can't damage most solid objects. You don't even really destroy anything in Crysis, simply blow it apart. You really leave no damage on the individual elements outside of some decals. It's a very smart way of handling things, but it has its limits.

Does not compute. That would add to any shooter.

Right, but would substantial and play affecting destruction be worth the downgrade in other regards that K2 excells at? We've already seen through Red Faction and Fracture that emphasis on destruction in FPS really isn't that exciting to the gaming audience as a whole, so why would they focus on heavy destructibility when it doesn't have a high degree of relevance to what they wanted to achieve with K2?

My point is....There are relatively few "universally good" design choices to make.

Typical response to KZ2, let's mention the things that the game does NOT do and focus on that.

It's as if they sit down to preview/review the game and say "OK, I need to find something/anything wrong with this game".

ppl are still getting in the beta?
i've downloaded the killzone2 theme, i've registered in playstation underground and used the official playstation forums...and still nothing! *cries*

i so want in :(

And yet there will still be shock and outrage.

There always is... What I don't get is how Guy Cocker (:lol) got this idea of destructible environments into his head. He just made up a feature and decided to criticize the game for not having this feature. WTH? GG never said there was going to be full scale destructibility ala BF or Crysis...

He's preparing to ruin the metascore of Killzone 2!

KZ2 is missing a level where you're in a mech (I mean..come on even Metal gear had this one right?), it lacks a racing level, a time trial mode, and it lacks dragons.

6.5/10

Actually, there IS a mech heh. The recent trailer shows it :)

GAF needs to make a thread doing Photoshops of Guy Cocoker... :D

That should be the treatment all terrible reviewers get. =P

We should make a NeoGAF only server and have TTP capture a video of us hiding behind the cover that can be destroyed. Then have people on the other team progressively destroy that cover showing us having a harder and harder time trying to hide behind that which is disappearing.

GS potential review score is irrelevant, just like almost all gaming media outlets. Stop talking about it fools!

1UP: Killzone 2 does not haz Master Chief. 5.0

Whoever was playing in that 10 minute video sucks. Reminds me of the good ole days in Resistance online where I'd make the top 3 every time I played. Well, I only played sniper only games.

He shoots through a wall @ 1:04, making a larger hole to shoot out of, now maybe that's just cosmetic? but it doesn't appear so. Perhaps I worded it wrong when I said "he was creating cover" But that was the instance I was talking about.

Don't have time to find the sandbag video right now, but I remember seeing it in those flash videos, will grab later.

Oh he's just shooting the breakable windows. :P You really can't destroy sandbags though, trust me, I've tried. :P

Maybe it's not really "destroying" the sandbags, but it changes the position of them enough to "destroy" a cover.

And yes he's shooting a breakable window, but I'd give credit that it's actually being destroyed and not "shoot-through".

"destructible environments are a nice touch but not very destructible. Shooting the ground around you in a circle does not yield the desired result of you falling down to a lower level."

Having partially destructable environments that don't affect gameplay is equivalent to a gun model that shows a scope that can't be zoomed in with. In other words it doesn't do much and that's what the gamespot guy was more or less saying, it's just for show.

Also, holy crap I just checked my stats and I'm ranked #34 out of everybody in the beta (Score) I'm #8 in Kills overall.

FFObessed is #13 overall (Score) He's also #11 in suicides :lol
Damn rocket spammer

I'm #2 when it comes to HEADSHOTS with 586 headshots :D
The #1 guy is at 631. I'm going to get past him....

Wow wtf, I'm # 5 in team kills LOL.
That's ironic, considering how much i've complained about team killing. People just love to hop in the way of my sniper.

The amount of stats that they track is crazy. They track everything.
You can even check your friend's stats pretty easily.

:lol Well, 11th isn't 1st!

Now now, I've used rifles more than twice as long as Missile Weapons, and now play the majority of the time with teh Sniper. And as Jett will tell you I'm pretty awesome! :p Last Beta I tried to "master" the Rifles and Shotgun, this Beta it's been Missiles and Sniper.

In fact I had my best moment in an online game EVER with the Rocket Launcher... let me tell you a little story...

It was a "Warzone" game on Radec Academy, 24 players, perfect amount. The game was close the whole time, I was playing with a shotgun as the Engineer class and was struggling, well, not having my best game. But my team was even worse I was surprised it was pretty equal so far as the other team seemed pretty competent. But it was the last round, the decider, and we had to plant charges on a Seek and Destroy match, we were Helghast fighting the invading ISA scum.

It was a real war of attrition for almost four minutes, most of my team didn't seem interested so we just had to wear them down slowly throughout the round. Eventually we managed to push them back and plant 2 charges! I didn't think we'd last long after that and I was right the 3 of us that were left fighting for it got killed pretty quickly. I didn't want to give up tho, it's the Helghast blood in my veins! So I quickly switched to Assault class so I could boost over there as fast as I could and at the very least blow them to pieces before the end of the game. I killed some guy on the way so I only had two rockets by the time I got back to the room where we placed the charges. Luckily some of my team had kept them from diffusing the bombs, but as I got there our last man fell, and the bombs began to be diffused...

It was all down to me and my Rocket Launcher. I strafed past the door and fired a rocket at where the charges were set... BAM! 4 KILLS with one shot! Not only were there two guys diffusing, there were two guys guarding them standing right there! mwaha! And the "chirp" sound quadruples when you get that, incredibly satisfying. But it wasn't over there I still had like 30-40 seconds to defend these charges and it was just me and one rocket, so I wait... there's silence at first, not a sound. It feels like I waited for an eternity, but it was only 5 seconds. Then through the broken wall came two ISA, I fired quickly and BAM direct hit.... 4 KILLS! There were two coming up behind them as well. Couldn't believe it! But I didn't have time to bask in my own awesomenous, I had a battle to win!

So I drop my blessed Rocket Launcher and picked up the nearest assault rifle. I looked at the hole in the wall and noticed, I was blind! The dust and smoke from the rockets completely covered the entrance. I couldn't see whether ISA troops were coming so I thought "fuck it" I started shooting wildly through the smoke, nothing at first but after a few seconds, *chirp!* one kill! I kept firing, I was almost out of ammo... *chirp* headshot! Another kill! Out of ammo, I desperately ran around looking for a weapon, and eventually found a shotgun near the entrance, now they were coming through, I lobbed a grenade but I threw it too far, it missed them, but it did kill two guys behind them. At that point I just started firing the shotgun in panic but I was missing, I was done... until a team mate finally showed up and picked off a couple of guys I softened up, but I only had a slither of health left and I was finally finished. I had fallen, as did my teammate. With only about 6 seconds left.. I was gutted. All that was left was for them to diffuse the charges.

I spawned quickly and waited for them to diffuse them at the last second but no. The charges blew, a couple of them died in the blast. And we won. I got a 12 kill streak and felt like a god. Best moment ever. I curse myself for not having capture equipment to record, and I pray the final game will have video capture.

Best online shooter ever.

oh and

Wow wtf, I'm # 5 in team kills LOL.
That's ironic, considering how much i've complained about team killing. People just love to hop in the way of my sniper.

You dirty team killer :p

All right just tried it out for myself. Some sandbags you can destroy, some you can't.

Don't know if you're serious or not, but save films would be a cool feature (not mandatory though). The gameplay in the beta alone feels just right and I don't think it needs to be "60FPS." It plays semi-flawlessly as it is and I like the flow of the game better than any fps game on console that I've played so far.

Why sould be 60 FPS, when Guerrilla already said its gonna be 30 FPS?

Slowly I'm starting to regret posting that answer. You're all getting innovative in how to mow down KZ2. Stop giving them ideas.

BUT saving films sounds like a nice idea to me, would be really awesome to capture memorable moments.

Thanks for clarification. Concerning sandbags, are the destructible ones strategically vital or not?

Yeah, it's been stated by the dev team that there are no plans for co-op. People are holding out hope that it may be patched in later.

ehhh there is co-op planned in a patch...

Perfect. Then throw it up on vimeo/gametrailers/youtube and email a nice letter to Cocker with the link to our video.

Can we do this please? TTP? or Beta Members?

Not really, the ones you can destroy are the ones placed in front of turrets in Salamun Market, if you're using a rocket launcher/grenade the turret will most likely get destroyed along with the bags anyway. :P The more sandbag-packed covers are indestructible.

Holy shit, I just had this dream where Guerilla unveiled a month a half before launch that they had a fully integrated co-op mode, complete with all the trimmings. Sigh...

But damn GT player play so poor :S. At least more actions.
Thats just fucking sick...

QUESTION BETA TESTERS!.... you guys playing the beta, be honest... does it beat Crysis Dx10 on a high end pc? From the looks of just this animated GIF ...it does although im not in the beta to really know.

I have a very high end pc.. Crysis does look incredible but even Gears of War 2 gives Crysis a run for its money... and again, this GIF above does as well from the looks of it

It may not affect gameplay but it sure does more to immerse you in the game..and thats pretty important to me.

This isn't the first time this was asked and it sure as hell won't be the last.

The answer is hard to give and really is a matter of opinion, but you need to realize something crucially important: both games have their own distinct art style and were designed on different platforms.

So, for instance, some people might point to the lush vegetation and wide opens areas in Crysis and state that as a strong point.

Some other people might not really see that as deal breaker since the games aren't going for the same end result. They might say the differed rendering and lighting in Killzone surpass Crysis' look.

Again, it is up to interpretation. Both games have strong and weak points. Both are two of the best looking games in existence, and will blow you away.

Hope that helps.
