Deferred rendering.

What's even crazier is that they are doing AA on top of deferred rendering. That has never been done before.

MAGIC
Not to mention adding lights afterwards :lol

Here is a 55 page .pdf of all the tech, problems, and how they did what they did to make KZ2 look the way it does.

Magic at work.

Ok the new weapon is the Boltgun.

Yeah it looks like all of Killzone's mainstays are coming with it ;)
Except the tube launcher minigun, cause you know, no alt fire.

Seriously, I don't see how any game is going to best Killzone 2 in graphics at least, this generation. Every page of this thread after the release of media has been chock-full of incredible real-time screenshots. NOTHING looks this good.

So, the spu's are very nice to have eh? I hope more sony devs go even further with the spu abilities. This stuff seems amazing. They render some of the graphics before it's sent to the graphics card. Just like people was talking about before.

That is Friday, I wonder if they will go with the Friday WW release. Get some midnight launch weekend kind of buzz going.

The podcast beyond impressions are glowing and ign AU is pretty much shit on a stick. This confuses me.

It's much harder hide the BS when you're talking live. Not that I believe that's whats happening here because the Podcast Beyond guys seem to be extremely pleased with it, but audio is a much better medium to determine whether someone is being honest or not. Also easier to determine whether someone is talking complete nonsense because it's a dialogue not only with the co-hosts but the listeners too.

There's much more to the Killzone 2 engine than deferred rendering and screen passes; in fact, Arjan mentioned that every composite that is rendered within the game is placed solely upon the SPUs to lock in the framerate at a solid 30 FPS. During small battles, one or two SPUs will pick up a majority of the action, but during heavy firefights with large explosions and numerous characters onscreen, all six SPUs will pick up the load and balance everything accurately. Surprisingly, even within the heaviest firefight onscreen, Arjan pointed out that the largest load on each one of the SPUs didn't exceed 60%, which ensured that the framerate remained consistent throughout the game.

its from the IGN US preview

WTF!! my mediaplayerclassic on the top is playing RE Degeneration atm. And it doesn't look good as this thread screens.

MattC posted a teaser of the Killzone 2 discussion from tomorrow's 1UP show on his blog. It's a small snippet he had to cut out of the actual show due to length.

Oh, it's from tomorrow's show, I thought it was leftovers from the last time kz2 was featured. Now I know that this week's 1up show is going to be disgustingly pathetic.

Oh and old.

One thing I think that is kind of funny with KZ2 is Sony has this reputation for showing insane target
footage when they are releasing a new console. (FFVIII "Realtime" Dance Scene on PS2, KZ2 and
Motorstorm) Watching the trailer again for E3 2005 I cant believe its actually worked out for them that
all the dodging of questions asking if its realtime and how far along is it are going to be proven for the
most part true in a sense.

None of the guys from Podcast Beyond wrote the article.
IGN services different territory's UK, USA, AU and a writer that works for them out of Australia wrote
the crappy preview not anyone who we identify as the actual staff of IGN.

Oh I know, I was just trying make the point that if the guy that wrote the IGN AU Killzone 2 preview was forced to talk about it live he would be exposed for the fool that he is. His article was obviously BS and should be regarded as such.

How about they start designing KZ3 for the PS4's launch :D

I'm sure alot of this time was just developing their tech and learning the PS3, I don't see another game taking as long.

I really want them to port KZ:L to the PSN.

Yeah that would have been definitely entertaining to listen to.

That'll likely depend on whether GG makes another game this gen.

We haven't even got KZ2 yet, but I was wondering this, whether we'll see KZ3 this gen or not? Or if we'll see another PSP entry?

I guess it all depends on when Sony are planning the PS4 for, and whether KZ3 becomes like GoW2, and acts as the consoles last hurrah. It took GG a bit over 4 years between KZ1 and KZ2, but alot has happened since then, most prominently a generation jump and becoming a full 1st party.

That was a Euro only release which annoyed me. I never asked anyone, what was on the extra disc?

I think they'll aim to make as much use out of their engine as possible, and also plan for any future endeavors. What I would do is assign a team dedicated to KZ2 content. DLC and expansions, and have the rest of the work force on the drawing board coming up with the sequel. Once they've played out KZ2 then they can work on KZ3 in full force.

Whether or not KZ3 is on PS3 or not I don't know. The engine would go to waste if they just stop here.

Haha used to be one of the mods there, good times :lol
It's pretty cool, too bad the extra disc was PS2 only and not a normal dvd or i'd watch it all the time lol doesn't work on my PS3 but KZ does luckly. Oh well. I also have the KZ beta demo disc :lol
