It is consciously artistic. It's the Schindler's List/Girl-In-A-Red-Dress effect. Or Sin City, if you will. Every bit of color in those films and in a game like Killzone 2 stand out, especially red in a grayish setting.

It genuinely is the first game this gen (at least on consoles) where you can say it looks CG and not be over exaggerating.
My Dad, who never plays computer games, saw me watching some HD footage on my TV yesterday and asked me what movie I was watching. He has no interest in gaming, and hasn't actually watched me playing a game since like Tomb Raider when I was 12 years old, and he couldn't believe that games now looked this good :lol
Sony really needs to advertise the fuck out of this game, and drop the price of the PS3/bundle the game for launch, because people that don’t know that much about gaming are gonna be blown away when they see this shit for the first time.

Of course. But thing is, it's what's on the screen that matters in the end, and they get blown away by the 1st party stables. Doesn't matter if they're just putting up enough effort to get it running ok or what, they look like fly by night companies when compared.

Well there's still Square Enix. Their engine is supposedly using 4 SPUs pretty efficiently. And they've been spending an awful long time on FFXIII and Versus, so I have to believe they're doing SOMETHING with all that time and money.

We'll see how that turns out, especially Versus. There's quite a high bar being set here by 1st parties, and I would be impressed if they can put out something that's competitive. And those games will be hitting maybe around when something like GoW3 has tons of media out, or is actual available around that time.
 
well... i just have to ask. i've seen all the newly released vids. while things surely look good in the new build, where is the crazy-looking dynamic hit-response system demonstrated in the E07 videos? i sure hope they didn't take it out... also, what's with the blood splashes? they do not look as good as the E07 blood splash. are they just place holders now?

the building falling down part in the new videos dose not look as good as i saw it last time. they added fire, but the smoke and dust were more impressive last time. i hope they change it back.
 
Finally got around to watching the single player videos on my TV. This game looks insane, and I say that after playing a ridiculous amount of the beta. No matter how many times I see it the visuals still blow me away. I really hope the game has a level in a rainy thunderstorm and one in a snow filled blizzard area.

2009 is going to hurt my bank account.

The movie was great, the book was even better. Depp needs to step away from Disney and Burton and go back those types of roles. One of his best performances.

I feel pretty content and i'm not even playing. This game has some of the most satisfying kills ever. Can't stop watching them. Especially that napalm-super soaker one. The way he's trying to pat himself down is insane, you can almost feel the pain.
 
I hope the pre-order special for this game is the kz2 costume for lbp. I'd preorder it in a heartbeat. a long heartbeat since i'd have to drive to the nearest store, but a heartbeat none the less.

So I was watching the Gamersyde footage on my TV via .mp4 on my PS3

The bit where Sev is trying to take down the heavy gunner Helghast.....I didn't actually know that enemies in a fps could still be genuinely scary. Just the way he moves, the eyes, the cold forboding atmosphere ....The feel right now of Killzone2 is really something else

This one's pretty good

I dont see whats the big deal about killzone2 tech? If anything, we may laud Guerilla for putting offscreen blur ingame. Why just take a look at a gametrailers video when the Guerilla guy talked about composition rendering, as you will see from the compositions being put together, killzone2 looks like bog standard FPS graphics (COD-ish) until the final composition, when all the heavy post-processing blur/glow is applied.
