i dont understand how people can complain about the controls, seriously what is it? I dont get it, its like people want the controls to be the same in every fps, KZ2 is pretty much the same with a cover system, shit is awesome imo.

also these characters feel like they're running around with weight and heavy ass guns, great stuff.

So is there a difference between pushing up and just letting go of crouch? I tried using the cover system the first time but I just played again and ignored it, for me it worked much better this time.

Yes, hold crouch (L2) and push up on the joystick, you'll peak over the edge and then you can zoom in and/or shoot. I play it like a stop and pop shooter ala Gears/Uncharted rather than the usual run and gun, which is I'm assuming how they designed it.

Holy shit @ this game with headphones on.
Holy shit @ this game with a 5.1 setup. Unlike most games you can actually hear the fucking dialogue and it sits in the mix correctly just like a movie. This game sounds fucking amazing.

The one that looks like the concrete block that use on the road. So there are breakable and unbreakable covers?

of course... do you expect to fuck up concrete block? kind of hard to do... but hide behind barrels, and they will jump around when they start shooting at them :D

shitty deadzone on the ps3 controller...at least that's my gripe.

The awful controls were a real barrier for me - even with the Alt. 2 config - and I didn't think the combat was all that good - it felt a lot like Resistance 2 but with much better graphics.

Huh ? There couldn't possibly be two games more different than R2 and KZ2, gameplay wise. They have absolutely nothing in common.
(And I'm not saying on is better than another, it comes down to personal preferences. They just can't be compared at all)

They also seem to really like motion blur. You hardly have to move at all and everything on the screen blurs. I'm also not sure if it even is a proper motion blur effect they're using. On the guns it seems like it might be, but it looks like it could just be using a general blur on the screen when you're panning around, similar to what Uncharted did.
It's the 'proper' motion blur. Well, probably more proper than anyting I've seen done in any game. If you pause videos you can see that it's indeed a real directional motion blur and it's applied according to velocity of everything on the screen.

As for your gameplay comments, I guess there's no accounting for taste. I didn't like Resistance games either, but based on this demo this is simply a much better game in just about every way to me, and seems much better than just about any recent, or not so recent PC FPS I've played, (and based on reviews, including even the PC gamer of all things, I don't think my opinion is that far off). I wonder sometimes if you actually like any game, or just like to talk everything down.

After several run throughs of the demo to gather my thoughts...and several more just cuz i felt like it, here is what I think about it.

Sound: They had me from the PSmenu song. When a developer thinks it's worth it to include a song to play before you boot the game, I generally give it a listen. KZ2's got a great one. Epic and sweeping...slightly more suited to a fantasy game probably, but it still gets the blood pumping none the less.

I seem to recall hearing guns lacked punch or didn't sound meaty enough. I don't think this at all. The guns sounded appropriately boomy to me to provide the auditory satisfaction to the ballistics.

The voice over work, however, is just bad. Pretty much across the board, almost every line fell flat for me. The only legitimately amusing line came when pulling Garza up. He made a quip about "don't drop me like last time". I got a chuckle out of that, but for the most part the dialogue was the sort of lame machismo that's grown stale over the past several years.

Gameplay: This was the biggest question mark for me going into the demo. Alot has been made about the controls and whatnot. The way the characters move feels really fantastic to me. I mean reaaally reallly good. Aiming has a bit of annoying latency, but it's not significantly worse than other console FPS's. I am curious why console shooters tend to suffer more from input lag than pc shooters do. It seems like having a closed system in a console would make it easier to control that sort of thing.

As far as how it actually plays outside the controls, it plays great. It has a very satisfying connection between the controller, the gun, the bullet, and the bad guy. The act of shooting in the game just feels right, which a lot of shooters completely miss the mark on. The cover mechanic seems to work fairly well, and keeping you in first person helps keep you immersed in the battlefield(wihch makes the decision to use third person cutscenes seem rather odd).

Graphics: Lot to say here. First off, the good. Killzone 2 looks great. No doubt about it. It's one of the best looking games I've ever seen. The animation is probably the best I've seen in an FPS. It's almost unfortunate the bullets kick up so much dust that it often obscures your fallen foes, as you can't see them move around because of it. The post processing is also fantastic. For some reason the way the blur behaves when you're watching one of your drop ships speed away impresses me every time, and it has since the e32007 trailer.

Second, the particle effects. Theres sooo damn many of them. This goes a long way to giving KZ2 the look it has. And they hang in the air for a relatively long time. This allows them to build a sortof "fog of war" effect during a battle quite naturally. The end result subtly suggests that the scenarios are somehow more real than other shooters.

Now for what I was a bit dissapointed by, or atleast failed to be blown away by.

The lighting. A lot has been made about the amazing lighting of KZ2, and while at times it looks bloody brilliant, the dynamic shadows can often be quite glitchy and dissapointing. I would frequently catch shadows cast from my muzzle flash behaving in very strange ways that were certainly not intended, and transparent particles (ie:dust) are not properly affected by light sources (see MGS4 for a good example of what I'm talking about by "properly lit"). Lots of more advanced volumetric lighting techniques are simply faked and look slightly cheap (the sunrays being the best example, though they are much better than I thought they would be from videos I've seen).

Textures are great, but not spectacular. They represent probably the best these consoles can reasonably be expected to do in a game this size, but there is clearly room for improvement as tech moves forward. Models are great, but don't exactly blow away the competition. They are definitely high caliber models though, and are most certainly not "the ugliest models since oblivion".

Overall, every aspect of the graphics presentation ranges from good to spectacular. KZ2 and RE5 are both proving that these systems are quite powerful when harnessed properly. I'm having a hard time definitively saying that KZ2 is the most impressive console game, as RE5 is very nearly a match for it in my eyes, but it is certainly a match for any other, and later areas may (and likely will) push it over the edge. I was hoping to see the visuals of Crysis matched, albeit on a smaller scale, but that may have to wait for KZ3. KZ2 comes about as close as anyone has, but still can't quite match the overall splendor of Crysis, even though the scale is smaller. Crysis's lighting, textures, and models are all still yet to be matched when the game is run on high settings.

Don't let me be misunderstood though, KZ2 is without a doubt one of the best looking games in the world.

Overall the demo has allayed fears I had about the control while getting me somewhat excited to play the single player campaign(I was primarily buying it for MP, and still am). Eagerly looking forward to the full version so I can go online and kill you guys.

Well, if I can fire the pillar to dust then why not concrete block? I don't think it's easy to break the concrete block in real life though :D Can't wait to get home and sit through it properly :D

If its a problem with the controller then why is it not a problem with CoD games? hmm
I'm not sure if it varies game to game. I've just noticed it with a lot of ps3 games. Maybe its the controller, or maybe its the games. All I know is its a pain in the ass to make slight movements on the right stick. You have to tilt it way too much before the game responds.

Okay so I finally got the "shotgun" like weapon from the Hellgast in the warehouse.
Its a nice weapon. Certainly works well in close quarters.

I have to say though... Turning everything off including the reticule & hud adds a layer of complexity and challenge directly proportional to the fantastic immersion of the game.

* Its sooooo much better yet soooooo much harder to play without the reticule.

The visual immersion is so good though I am going to tough it out and learn to play that way.

Looking forward to getting out of where I am (voluntarily checked into a clinic) and playing what everyone is talking about. Kind of difficult to look forward to things, but the full release of this sucker is a small but bright light.

I have a 42" Samsung LCD. It is SD. Will Killzone 2's looks still remove my socks ?

I posted this a couple of pages back. So so awesome, indeed. :D

Finally got to run through the demo a few times...

Pro's:
- Controls feel real...+1 sensitivity was perfect IMO, I went over to COD right after and it suddenly felt so fake...
- Graphics...well, duh...again, COD didn't hold up well at all when i flipped over to it.
- Sound, superb.

Con's:
- I have to wait 22 days to light up the other Gaf clans in MP

It is indeed awesome, though I distinctly remember this being in Halo 1. Not that those marines stood any chance against you though. :lol

Anyone complained about pop up yet?
It's funny you mention this cause it never actually came up since the demo release. I personally didn't notice any while playing the demo.

Damn, the demo's short. I was really getting into it.

I only had a quick playthrough before bed, and I used the default control scheme. I'll definitely give it another go on the morrow, fiddle around with the different setups.

It's funny though, this section has been demoed so many times, and I've watched so many run throughs of that area that, going through it felt a bit perfunctory. I definitely liked the pace of the combat, the weightiness of the movement and moving from cover to cover.

I had a friend who felt that way. But he hates most PlayStation franchises I like, and is blind to anything positive I might say about this game (and God of War, etc.)

The deadzone on the DS3 is smaller than the deadzone on the 360's controller, BTW.
I think stuff like this is not even worth discussing anymore. It's pretty obvious that some people who play X360 a lot more, need more time to get used to DS3 for just about any game, or just flat out don't like it for whatever reason. The opposite is true too for other people. Controls in KZ2 were like a second nature to me, but I never really had a problem with any major controller ever made except maybe for Gamecube.

Best of luck with whatever you're going through. It should look really good in SD even, at least as much as other standouts this gen - maybe even more so as a lot of wow factor comes from post processing and particles which really shouldn't look that much worse regardless of resolution.

I've killed all 4 marines and then had the other ignore me after a bit.

And it has been in Halo.

That just happened to me. Natko said "Fuck you Sev..." and he put me down.

Another thing is when Garza's giving you a boost, I thought he only says "Watch the hair" but on my last playthrough he said "Ladies first!" Made me lol.

It's the little things that make this game so great.

Let me repeat so you can understand better "I have never seen that in a game", I truly don't give a shit if you have. just sayin:D
I know, it's pretty rare. I wasn't being serious or anything.

Marathon 2 was ahead of its time though.

He also says a few different things when you pull him up, such as "Don't drop me like last time." I forgot what he says other than that though.

THIS.

I have no problem with my 360 or PS3 controller but being predominantly a PC gamer it just takes me a bit to get used to console controls but after that im fine. I like both controllers :D

Didn't notice any.
Run up the stairs into the warehouse and the barrel on the left will fade in.

I've also seen debris and other stuff on the floor appear when entering the largest enclosed room (the one that has the STA14 dude on the roof).

I've only heard him say, "Boost", and "Don't drop me like last time."

Pretty cool that he has other line's too.

People who are replying to 65536's post..you guys do know you're arguing with andrewfee right? Yes, the same andrewfee who single handley derailed the official uncharted thread and goes out of his way to nitpick ps3 games. Anyway, don't take andrew's "complaints" too seriously.

Finally got some alone time in this evening. Standard 1 is fukkin awesome when you are using cover. I am finding that I use cover in almost every skirmish and being able to click the stick and hold my Iron sites works extremely well in this config, I am glad I took TTP advise and got used to this.

The AI is FANTASTIC, even at this low level setting, I can't wait to play this on the harder levels. That weopan you get in the warehose is pretty sick, and I love the unpredictability of hitting the propane tanks. I have played through the demo a few times now, and each time it has been a different experience. Reminds me of the Uncharted demo in that way.

Off to play more :)

i liked it. The sound was pretty fantastic with 5.1 set up and huge bass. Lots of fun effects going on. Graphics are the best on consoles but still a bit aways from crysis imo. Will play more tomorrow when other family members arent sleeping and can crank up the 15" sub.
