Great game let down by one thing, those fucking ds3 sticks. Why sony why have sticks with big deadzones and lose feel, this game is fucking great and is crying out for a pad to do it justice.

I know many here are gonna cry foul but I bought a GameStop branded controller last week because the sticks have great tension, cost 28 dollars total. If you can deal without rumble and wireless - the sticks make up for it in my opinion, plus its hella cheaper than $55.00 plus for a Sony pad.

I just wish there was a way of checking your ammo. Looking down at some ammo clips on your belt or something would be nice.

That'd definitely be cool, but I don't know if it's that necessary. It could just be the demo, but it looks like ammo will be more than plentiful overall, with the weapons your dead teammates and enemies drop along with all those weapon dispensers. I don't think I ever came close to running out - ammo in general seems very abundant, your weapons carry a lot (and the Magnum is unlimited), and Killzone 2's recoil encourages burst fire rather than automatic which has the added benefit of helping to conserve.

I just increased the sensitivity setting under controls, and the game controls suddenly became a thousand times better.

Does anyone use the default sensitivity setting and still be able to play relatively well?

Yep. I haven't touched the controls from the standard and it plays very well. I don't feel the default sensitivity is too slow at all. I think it gels very nicely with all the characters' movement speeds.

So the KZ 2 community manager just said he is gonna investigate this aim lag you fools speak of

There's no "aim lag", wtf.

All you have to do is put the ammo counter on the side of the gun like Red Faction did 8 years ago. No more HUD.

The controls definitely have a learning curve. At first it felt sluggish and unresponsive, but that feeling started to go away once I spent more time with it. Still two gripes though:

1) I do not like any control scheme that puts sprint on L3. FUCK THAT SHIT, PERIOD. I will be majorly pissed off if there are any parts of the game that require the use of sprint. Going by the demo, I'm fine with never using sprint, as the game seems to lean towards slower tactical gunplay. In mp, I'll be the one who never sprints, even if it is to my detriment.

2) I wanna have crouch be a toggle, too. Though this is more of a minor quibble.

Anyways, HYPE+++

I really think you can break down the controls really simply.
A MP centric player can easily see how the default scheme will slow down his play, vs. someone who is all about the slower more methodical play of a single player game.

I'm really happy there aren't going to be cover mechanics in the MP, I can already see its going to be a brilliant decision.

As long as crouch toggle is going to be in the MP options like people are saying, I'll be happy.

I cannot, for the life of me, find the damn RPG at the bridge section. WTF. Where is it?!

Every time I get past that part is because I've manually shot all the red crates on the bridge. I found the rocket somewhere else, but not here. Wherefore art thou hidden from me?!?!
as you turn the corner you'll see some fool shoot a rocket then get shot up. So just pick his up. And there is ammo for it behind the cover in front of the dead RPG guy

Yeah, they coulda done it. It would've worked with the futuristic sci-fi setting, too.

Even then, there's something about seeing a gorgeous game completely clean with no HUD, no numbers, no anything except your gun, the setting, and the people. Even Dead Space, with its awesome HUD alternative, didn't really manage that to this extent since those glowing numbers on the guns still felt a little bit "gamey" (the health bar going down the suit fit in perfectly, though).

Those are awesome. I got a long canister to spin like a top before blowing up.

Same here. It was so awesome shooting one individual canister with a few shots then hearing it hiss. It was on the floor so it actually stood up from the pressure tilted around and caused a huge chain explosion. Killzone is all about the details and the details are incredible.

Aren't all video games inherently "gamey". That word sucks

Played through the demo several times tonight. i think this might be the first ps3 game I'll REALLY be able to get into. The ps3 controller is my only issue...

Are there any parts of the multiplayer that require the motion controls? I'm thinking about getting the 360 controller adapter for this game in particular since I'm way handier with it in shooters.

Obviously, but we're talking about immersion, and the fewer distracting items on the screen (like your typical HUD), the less like a game the game you're playing seems like. There's a reason why games, especially first-person ones, are starting to opt for no HUD or a very minimal one.

my day:
-tried to set up remote play
-got to work, remote play didnt work, once it was time to download demo
-watching the clock hoping it would turn 5

my night:
-friend came over with beer and pizza. Wanted to see what this game was all about and what i have been talking about for weeks.
-took two hours to download, so we watched the office
-download finished, drank a beer and smoked while it installed.

-BLOWN AWAY!!! while my buddies jaw dropped, his friend called him on his cell and told him he just bought a playstation 3 today. I played the demo, thought it was awesome, but defintely need to get used to controls.
-then all three of us(two one on ps3) played resistance 2 co op for 2 hours.

-then i had to go back to playing the demo, i did like ten times better on the second go round. I dont knwo why but its the floor textures, they just look amazing on the beach part. Floor textures seem to be the most neglected part in games, but every freakin texture was outstanding when i was looking around.

Played a couple times at lunch on ALT2...liked it but didn't love it. Played a couple times tonight using default...wow, what a difference. Dealing with cover just feels so much better now; in fact, I love the cover system for SP. The demo is frustratingly short though. Just when I feel like I'm in the groove, fade to black. Gunplay is great, which was my biggest concern. Can't wait for the full game.

Clearly it was crack, i do not trust crackheads so your opinion is void.

What is with all of this DualShock hate? I do not remember this being an issue during the PS2/xbox/gamecube days.

The only thing you people bitch about is the controls and the controller.

Cool demo. I had to jack up the sensitivity on both axises, but after that I was fine with the controls. I've never been a big fan of DualShock controllers, but I can deal with them.

Pretty game (or prettiest game?), but KZ2 has some sort of blurry look to it. Not sure if it's motion blur or what, but it's noticeable in screenshots and videos too. Doesn't really bother me, just makes me feel like my contacts are clouding up sometimes :P

I was never really on the KZ2 hype wagon, but I look forward to picking this up now.

a cool occurence.

on the second playthrough my teammate in the warehouse saw one helghast left so he checked a gernade at him, the guy jumped and dodged it into cover. I barely saw his head so i took a shot. He then shuffled over to get better cover. Theeen i got a headshot! it was awesome.

....and no, im not a crackhead.

I don't either, I love both my Dual Shock and the 360 controller.
Maybe I'm just pro at these things because I don't have small hands :D

I played the demo twice. As most said, the controls took getting used to, and the second time through felt better. Not a lot to the demo gameplay-wise, but it certainly lived up visually and aurally to the various videos and impressions from a presentation standpoint. I look forward to playing the full game in a few weeks.

You're misremembering then, chief. Nothing's changed about the controller, and nothing's changed about the complaints. Those that don't take issue still don't see the trouble, and those that gripe continue on.

I don't like the dual shock becuase my hands engulf the damn thing. I don't like playing with my thumbs overlapping...

As I've learn a decade ago (everyone should really by now as I have a hard time believing people are literally holding it the wrong way for nearly a decade), you don't play with the dualshock series near the first joints of your thumbs just the tips of the thumb.

"Killzone 2 may very well be as spectacular a disappointment as you'll play all year."

Trey disapproves

Alt 2 didn't work out as great as I thought it would (for single player anyway). I think it might be my multiplayer option, but I can't cover/zoom at the same time with ALT2 in SP.

Solid demo, but I don't get shooters for their single player anyway. Using this more to get used to controls before I go online with the full game :D

I've been playing with the first joint of the thumbs for over 20 years! I can't undo it, if I try to play with the tips I just aim all over the damn place!

The issue has nothing to do with deadzones or anything like that, but the acceleration they programmed in. When you press left to a certain degree and hold it there, it starts slow and then accelerates slightly.

I agree, it does make the aiming wonky, it's A LOT LIKE Perfect Dark Zero (that really hurt the game in the eyes of a lot of people). But I got used to it for PDZ (especially after playing online) and I got used to it for KZ2 in the MP beta.

Stick with it, as frustrating as it may be. And it was frustrating for a little bit for me as well, but I got over it.

The demo is insanely short though. Very disappointing, but I think I got a good taste of the game so I can't complain.

Understandable.

Yeah, old habits are hard to break. Just don't give up!

hmm... being negative to attract attention?
That's that Tom Chick guy again. Don't link his drivel.

I think every console FPS does that though. Maybe acceleration curves are just different from game to game. In KZ2 even you can see this acceleration (not just the speed) change quite a bit as you change the sensitivity setting.

Hm, what is with that Gamma Correction setting ? I don't see any symbol, even if i turn up TV brightness and contrast to the max. And even without that picture quality is very good.

So um will there be a demo for people who didn't pre-order the game? Or is that just for Europe? When will we have access to it without making an EU account?
