Wow it looks waaay better with super black off. I had to go into the game settings and bring that setting down all the way to make the symbol barely visible. Its amazing what changing some color settings around can do to a game. Also did anyone else notice that when the ship crashes in the beginning the screen smudges differently every time?
Yup, neat little detail.

I also have to change the RGB option when I try it again.

I agree! It feels like FPS gears, thanks to the cover system. this isn't a bad thing at all, I like it a lot :D
I agree. I immediately felt it was like a first person gears (slow, heavy feel and stuff), that's why I felt a disconnect when the button layout was so different. I want to map it like this.
X --> for sticky/toggle cover. I don't want to hold it to stay in cover.
Big triggers for zooming and shooting.

COD is much faster, enemies respawning and very limited AI behavior. Its similarity with COD is in the more 'realistic' visual style, very superficially at that.
It's also weird that its turning and aiming is slow with a narrow field of view which makes it harder to see the battlefield. It's a bit like blinders. This isn't a problem in 3rd person but maybe I can get used to that.

Mine is here too.

BTW These are not "review copy", these are "promo retail" discs, which are retail but without retail insignia and pictures.

Ah ok, thanks for the info! :) But even if it isnt a "review copy", i still think that it would be really cool to own a "promo retail" copy of Killzone 2! :)

Congratulations on getting this "promo retail" disc of Killzone 2! :)

What is with the sound? Something seems off. I have to crank my surround sound to make it sound good. Also the guns sound quite weak.

Check if you have selected 'large' as your speaker system instead of 'small' on your receiver. It will affect the low end.

the default rifle just sounds weak. the helgast SMG and the single shot rifle sound much better

people will definitely feel weird or hate the control at first try, it's like they purposely made the response a few milli seconds slower, but you'll get used to it after an hour or so. The controls can be done similar to COD4, just use alternate 2 and tick the "hold aim" box.

edit: demo's too fucking short

hey 1080P guys. what settings do you guys use on the ps3? 720P, 1080P?

720p always. Look, unless you bought some piece of shit Vizio or something, your $2000 1080p TV will always do a better job of upscaling then $400 PS3, $200 360, or $50 upscaling DVD players. Always.

Also, the sound did seem a little off to me. I mean, it sounded fine but the low end punch was missing. I have a fucking massive subwoofer too, and I remember certain areas in Resistance 2 that were literally shaking my walls apart. I could barely tell my subwoofer was on during the KZ2 demo. It's almost like they left the LFE channel off the demo to reduce download size or something.

I leave mine at 1080p from the XMB. Is there a way to change to 720p from in game menus? Thinking about trying that out to see how it looks in comparison.

Having played several games and demos on the system, I can assure you that no, my controller is not broken. and several people are corroborating the acceleration/dead zone problems.

I see two distinct possibilities:

1. either the extra sensitivity male enhancer that I have been spraying on my controller for the past six months is finally starting to pay off and my dead zone has shrunk (shriveled?).

-or-

2. your perfect controller is slightly less perfect than mine, since the dead zone I see here with the default settings (dead zone is not adjustable) is negligible - 1/32 inch or so off vertical. Way smaller than 1/4 inch as you originally claimed.

Do it. It looks sooo much better. The difference amazing. Before I saw jaggies all over the place.. now I can barely make any out. Textures look 100% better it just looks amazing now. Better then I was expecting. Anyone that complains about the graphics should really consider messing with the color settings. Before it looked ok.. now it just looks insane.

The music on the main menu is just fucking epic as hell, reminds me of a cross between Warhammer 40K and MGS4.

I actually like the voice acting. A lot. Even Rico, who I hated before, his new voice is much better. They're not oscar winning actors, they're soldiers and their lines are delivered very naturally.

I like Garza a lot, he's more pleasant than the other two guys who are assholes :p Glad he's the guy who seems to go with you most of the time. It seems like Sev and him are good friends!

Just to clarify that isn't his take on the demo, it's his take on the review build of the game. He's also on the last chapter of the game for reference of how much he has played.

Sorry, I should've cited that, I knew the PA guys had been/would be messing with the demo as they didn't get a prerelease copy or anything like that.

The voice in the review just stood out, as do most dissenting critiques on any title that seems to be gaining acclaim, conveying what I took almost as disgust from the author as opposed to what others reviews have been stating essentially heaping praise on Killzone 2. It's a case of while I don't necessarily agree with what was written (as I haven't played the full game yet), I wanted to get other people's opinions on what I had read.

I'm very caught between treating this as a tactical shooter (ala RB6: Vegas) and action shooter (COD4).

From the demo, I'll probably play the SP ala R6V.

I wasn't in the multiplayer beta, so I'm not sure how it will play but I'd have to guess that grabbing cover isn't going to be that effective against another human being who can see your head bobbing around. The Helghast definitely seem to have difficulty hitting you though, so thats nice.

I have to agree... one of the first things i checked was the deadzone, since it bothers me a lot in console fps, and it's really small in kz2.

That RGB option did more harm than good. I recall when it was introduced in the XMB everyone was like "OMG colors are more dense! So awesome!" but it actually negatively affects visual quality on most sets. I didn't realize this until GTAIV. I could barely see the mobile phone keyboard and I thought that was too odd. So I investigated and realized RGB Full equals very bad. I did replay some games after setting it to Limited and I was surprised about how better they looked.

Sony should add a sticker on the KZ2 cover reading like "Set the RGB option to Limited for maximun visual splendor". Or something like that :lol

Or they might sneaky default it to Limited with the next FW update. I can see the outcome already: "OMG games look much better after the X.XX update! Didn't know PS3 could get more powerful with a simple fw update!" :lol

Ok. But for others - if the cutscene has a lot of low end, but the ingame sounds barely do, check your amp settings - speakers should be set to 'small' in general.

Yeah I really wish they had modeled a control scheme after Gears like they did for COD.

can't wait for the release.:D

How did you get a 360 controller to work in-game on the PS3? How did the button mapping come over? Was R1 -> Right trigger or Right button?

Would really love to try this with a 360 pad.

Wow, it really looks much better now. I also see the logo barely right from the start, so there was no need for adjustments in the first place. Awesome.

I also get more of the RSV2 vibe from it right now as some folks mentioned early, rather than COD4. Standard 1 works better and better, getting used to it the more I play it.

And I finally shot down the guy on the roof in the warehouse, love the Rifle he was using.

Has it been confirmed from which build the demo is taken?

For what I saw/read, seems closer to review code than preview. The two Higs chatting in the warehouse weren't there in the preview code. But someone has to confirm me whether or not they react to grenades. Cos someone said they don't, but in the review code they do (escape, scream, die).

They should I seriously think it looks 100% better. It was like when we where watching all that beta footage from sp and then they showed the new build. It was that big of a difference.
Also control wise Alt 2, with Hold Zoom on is pure sex. My god I was doing some crazy stuff when I got into that part right before the demo.

Yup.. but try Alt 2, with zoom hold on and see how you like that. I was doing ok with the other controls but something clicked when I had those settings on.

Is anyone else thinking that it might be best to use two different control setups for SP vs. MP??

The Standard 1 or 2 seems perfect for SP, but the Iron sights on L1 and Fire on R1 seems best for MP since the cover system is not in play????

Unless they don't spot you or you shoot at them, they'll keep talking for a few seconds.

EDIT: Grenades? Let me try, I shot them down with the rifle.

I saw at least one helghast run from my grenade when I threw a few last night. I will probably try to play around with the AI a little more on subsequent go-throughs of the demo. I really wish they'd put veteran difficulty in here. :D

I tried, but Crouching and shooting was almost impossible. I barely use my middle finger when playing so it was really unusual and hard for me to shoot out of cover.

If they add a toggle Crouch option, I would instantly switch to Alt 2.

I'm also waiting for the Gioteck Triggers, maybe it'll get better/easier.

No. You'll be at a disadvantage cos you will need to crouch while zooming in for maximum accuracy and lower exposition to enemy fire. So if you go with Crouch Hold you'll have to keep L2 and L1 pressed simultaneously. If you go with Crouch Toggle, you'll lose precious millisecond having to un-crouch after having shot (more so if you forget to un-toggle it). You could hit R3 to run and automatically un-crouch, but still it is not as intuitive as simply letting L2 go.

I had this issue on the 360 version, no matter what I did I could not fix it. My TV is a 57'' projection, it only goes up to 1080i. Even setting my system to 720p did not help.

Yeah, try with grenades. Toss one in the middle of them and tell me what happens. Do they keep talking or do they realize they are about to die? :D

720p - purest form of the image.

Upscaling on PS3 only makes the image look worse on my 1080p panny plasma.

BlaBlurn, since you got the German Promo Version. Is English included if the Console is switched to EN or do i have to import the UK version?
