That RGB option did more harm than good. I recall when it was introduced in the XMB everyone was like "OMG colors are more dense! So awesome!" but it actually negatively affects visual quality on most sets.
RGB Full should only really be used if the PS3 is connected to an LCD computer monitor. With pretty much every TV made today, it will look better if you set it to Limited.

The hell, PS3 does have a screenshot feature doesn't it? :lol
can it be used independent of the game you're running, or is it a feature that has to be implemented?

as in, can we take screens of the game demo on the PS3?

Needs to be implemented much like YouTube video upload and custom sountrack support.

Wow it looks waaay better with super black off. I had to go into the game settings and bring that setting down all the way to make the symbol barely visible. Its amazing what changing some color settings around can do to a game. Also did anyone else notice that when the ship crashes in the beginning the screen smudges differently every time?

how do you do this? Just set it to RGB to limited, because its like that on mine already, or do you mean turning gamma down as well?

This has probably already been posted, but did anyone else notice that on the starting gun there is a reflex sight and a front sight, but when you toggle the zoom mode the front sight is nowhere to be found?

Alternate 2, Zoom Hold, Invert Y Axis, 7 sensitivity is the only way to play. The only thing I don't like about the control method is you can't change the crouch button. I much rather L2 be run and R3 be crouch.

It has indeed been mentioned.

Nice catch. O_O

put this image on your ps3. if you can see some squares of the upper row, everything's fine. if not adjust your rgb setting.
So I just put this on my PS3 and switched to Full RGB. I can still see all the boxes so should I leave this setting on?

The Alternate 2 controls are straight COD, so that's what I went with. I think the turning speeds on both sticks could be a bit faster, but overall it's not something that kills the gameplay.

Dunno if someone noticed this already but if you get far from a member of the Alpha Squad while he's talking, you can hear his voice coming from the (virtual) headset.

720p - purest form of the image.

Upscaling on PS3 only makes the image look worse on my 1080p panny plasma.

Do you just switch back and forth when you watch blu-ray movies? I have my PS3 set to display at 1080p, but I'm thinking of going to 720p (the resolution for the vast majority of games), only I don't want to switch back and forth for blu-ray movies because I'm a despicable lazy bastard.

Am I the only man alive able to adjust to new controls in games?

I don't think I've ever changed default controls in a game ever, unless the default was completely nonsensical, or didn't have a needed action mapped to a button.

This is practically my first FPS played on PS3 since a very very long time (probably since the first KZ :lol ). So I had a lot of problems trying to play it with the DS3.

Other than that, the game looks incredible. Probably one of the best shooters I'll ever experience.

Good job GG.

The ps3 will output 1080p for movies as long as all boxes are checked.

I own a W4000 too and it doesn't support RGB Full. That said, it makes no difference at all. RGB Full is not better as the name suggests, it's basically the same for the normal user. They should have named it RGB Video and RGB PC, no one would use it then...

I'm asking myself how many people out there use the "full" setting because it sounds better and they are crushing all the blacks till a point where games are almost unplayable.
I use it because it makes my colors look a thousand times better then they did with it off. Every time I switch it from on to off my colors look so dull in comparison.

I also want to add I can see all the boxes except the first two with RGB Full on. I still can't see that symbol.

No, you aren't.

I never understood this complaint either... I have no problem with control defaults as long as I can invert the Y-axis.

No I usually stick with the default for every game (although sometimes I make a few changes when something is just stupid like having both run and duck on L2 in Resistance 2)

Blu Rays will default to 1080p regardless of having 720p checked off or not because the BD defaults to its highest supported resolution, which is 1080i/p. (as long as your set is a 1080p native set)

If your TV does not support full RGB you should probably just color calibrate it to get the proper image.

Im having an interesting sound problem with this game.

PS3 is running optical into receiver. I have a pair of 5.1 gaming headphones that have also have a receiver that they connect to. I have an optical cable running from my main receivers "Optical Out" to my headphone receiver. When I want to use my headphones I just turn the switch and audio comes though.

I use them all the time for my PS3 and 360. The second I get into KZ my main receiver switches to some bizzare 5.1 Matrix or something like that and my headphones dont receive any signal. I tried to manually switch my receiver to Dolby EX or DTS but it doesn't work.

I tried bypassing my receiver entirely by connecting my PS3 directly to my headphones and its still the same probalem. No audio through headphones.

This has me more than a little worried because I bought these headphones a few months back solely FOR this game.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I don't remember what model it is, but FULL RGB works on my DLP Samsung as well. It's a couple years old and is 720P and not 1080P. However, I think I remember reading that it was a compatible with my TV back when RGB function came out.

Anyway ... with RGB full on, I can see the difference in the blacks for the helghast symbol.

Should I leave it on?

Thanks the nice thing of the whole game. You can play it over and over again without it feeling "samey" (lol). In a sense, it's kinda like MGS as far as replayabilty goes.

Oh, and you'll love it much more on Veteran...
That's a pretty bold statement. :D

Unless you don't mean 4.

I had the same issue last night with no sound when the Killzone 2 demo started up. I just changed the audio setting in the PS3 xmb to automatic and it works now.

fuck! I didn't realize this was up on the Aussie network. I'm downloading the demo now but have one tilt problem... The download just started and my controler is almost out of juice. I can't find a single damn mini USB cable in the whole house!

Full RGB is mostly for PC monitors only. If it looks washed out or bad with limited RGB, then you need to adjust your TV settings. The result is better blacks and a more balanced picture (where full RGB gives the appearance of deeper blacks, but might make darker areas appear black, so you lose details.)

In fact, this may be why some people can't see the emblem in the brightness test at the beginning of the game.

Seems like I'm in the minority here, but I think the first level looks amazing. I don't get how one can't be blown away by all the shit going on there. And the quality of the lighting. It's easier to make dark levels look good as you can play with light contrasts and what not (and hide any IQ issue), but as a daylight level is impressive how "dense" and realistic the overall illumination is. In most games daylight settings feel totally artificial. This is not the case with Killzone 2. I mean, take a look at the first, daylight level of Gears of War 2 (I'm not attempting to troll the game, mind u), outside of the first section inside the hospital. Then come back to Killzone 2. The lighting and post processing make a quite noticeable difference.
Oh hold on now, I think the game is fantastic looking and the lighting is amazing but it's totally artificial and completely un-natural.

That's what I like about it, the lighting is very purposefully done. There are many areas that are lit up with non visible light sources in order to make a more interesting composition within the frame.

yeah, the lighting is wayyyyy overdone, but I like it like that. It is kinda funny though...it's a completely overcast, drab day outside and the warehouse is just like JEEEEEEEEZUS RAYYYYYSSS all over the place.

I'm honestly curious as to what TV you have?
It's a small 22" Samsung HDTV. Not sure about the model #. I saved that picture to my PS3 and all but the very top left most box is visible with RGB set to full. Also in the KZ2 demo the logo is still fully readable so I'm guessing it must support it?

I'm talking about the overall illumination quality. Not how it is created. It feels more natural looking.

When I woke up today, the first thing I thought of, the first thing I wanted to do, was run to my PS3 and play some NHL 3 on 3...:P No, it was Killzone. I was thinking of the first time I played COD and how refreshing it was to play a game where people dont take an avalanche of bullets to kill. I also loved how easy it was to kill people 7 miles away with iron sights and in a blink of an eye.

Over time though, I got bored of COD4, I found people who never played more than 1 hour to be killing me as much as I kill them. Some guy went 15-3 on his first time playing. This is ultimately why I stopped playing. I look forward to killzone 2s mp because I feel with time, I will have a complete advantage over noobs. This is all imo.

720p always. Look, unless you bought some piece of shit Vizio or something, your $2000 1080p TV will always do a better job of upscaling then $400 PS3, $200 360, or $50 upscaling DVD players. Always.

Also, the sound did seem a little off to me. I mean, it sounded fine but the low end punch was missing. I have a fucking massive subwoofer too, and I remember certain areas in Resistance 2 that were literally shaking my walls apart. I could barely tell my subwoofer was on during the KZ2 demo. It's almost like they left the LFE channel off the demo to reduce download size or something.

so dis-able 1080P in the settings (as well as 1080i)?

I want it noooooooooooow! I've never replayed a demo this much since.... ever. I definitely going to play this on Hard on my 1st playthrough.

Even though the game is here this month, it just seems so far away :(

I'm guessing its different for every tv. When I had rgb set to full I couldn't see that symbol at all no matter what gamma settings I had. When I put it to limited it poped up clear as day. So I put the gamma all the way down to make it barely visible. I also put "game mode" on my tv. Chances are if you can see that symbol in the box then you're probably fine.

Yeah I definitely got that vibe from it. Every time I played it someone said something different and even the enemy AI reacted differently. I really want to see what the game plays like on veteran mode.

That's what I'm talking about, the game is not lit in a natural way. Natural lighting emulates life, keeping lighting inconsistencies down to a minimum (within technical limits) while making that it's visual directive. This game is lit with the purpose of accentuating certain features of the landscape and to create a very distinctive image.

After beating the demo, you can check out more loading screens if you restart the level using the "mission select" option in the menu. :P
