This thread seems rife with threatened xbots.

Will the world fall, as truly you are making it seem with your protestations, if the PS3 has a good, if not great, shooter in 2009?

See to me, if you guys really want to see this thread improve, you'd want comments like this removed / banned as well.

Which says something about you, actually. Is some insignificant "war" between consoles more important to you than good games? Why care?

I don't own a 360, but I won't call Gears of War "bland" or some other non-sense just because 360 owners go crazy over it. It's a great looking game, I don't care if it's the most important thing in some 13 year old kid's life. I understand though, I used to be like you. Then I got a life and realized that games are games. KZ2 is a really awesome one, you should check it out.
That's all well and good, just seems pretty hard to get unclouded thoughts about this one.

I'm always cheering for a game to be good, hope this is one of them...

This thread is a fucking cesspool, are people with negative opinions about the game suppose to make a new thread since anyone not joining the circle jerk here since to get banned.

At the end of the day, logic predicts that a game with an intense single-player campaign and a killer multiplayer element is a win-win situation in anyone's book. To be honest, Killzone 2’s secret ingredient is the fluidity in gameplay that we have come to enjoy more than its graphical prowess or jaw-dropping visuals. And that’s what games have always been about… We're surprised to see Killzone 2 blows our expectations out of the water with a memorable SP campaign and a stellar MP component. To put it short, this game makes Gears of War 2 look like a high school attempt at gaming and that is a HUGE compliment!

So, so angry. It's going to be OK, just breathe, count down from 10, and everything will be peachy. I promise.
You're doing the same thing which you just chastised djblackice for doing. Don't be so preachy if you can't practice what you preach.

I wish that I had a bigger TV to take in the glorious graphics but it still looks good on my 26" Sharp Aquos. I love that it plays in DTS, too. :D

I'm about to play the demo... again. Like many others this is probably my most played demo, ever. The first few times were trying to grasp the controls, but after putting everything back to defaults now I am just enjoying the game.

Just gave the demo lucky try number 7 and 8. I tried without the scope on the first run and did worse, I was letting whole clips go without killing anything. I then started over and turned the sensitivity down which made me play a little better but not to the point where I was happy. I don't get how I can have this huge control disconnect on just one game. I really want to play for the MP but if I have to turn the sensitivity down to play I probably will not do too well. I usually have to turn my sensitivity up to be happy with most FPS games excpet Halo 3 and now this one. I guess I might just have to sit this one out.

Try these:

1.) Try and stick with the default controls, trust me they work best. But if you're really finding it hard to adjust even after some time, go with alternate 2 (closer to COD4).

2.) Try and stick with default sensitivity, it really is best for pin point accuracy despite being slow. Otherwise up the sensitivity a few notches (on both X and Y), then when you are more used to the aiming, drop it back to default.

3.) Be sure to use the entire range of the analogue sticks. Don't just harsh press left, right, up etc in one direction the full way at the same strength/force all the time. Be elegant with how you aim. Use gentle touches, taps and so on where necessary, and longer/harder pulls/pushes on the stick in others. The analogues aren't just a directional guideline in this game, they are a strength gauge. The harder/longer/stronger you pull in any direction, the quicker and more forcefully they will go that way. Sometimes delicate touches are all that is necessary for precision shots.

4.) Take your time. Don't panic and rush to get off some shots. It's better to take your time to find the right line with the shot for a quicker kill and/or to get that super rewarding and efficient head shot.

5.) Burst fire every time. The longer you hold the trigger, the more recoil and wasted bullets you face. Use quick bursts, that way you retain accuracy and your bullets are far more lethal.

6.) Pretty obvious, but stick to burst fire from the hip for close/medium quarters, and iron sights for anything further. Again, stick to using burst fire otherwise you will end up spraying all over the place.

#3 is probably the most important. Be subtle when you're trying to precisely aim, especially through ironsights.

Had the PS3 RGB colors sett to Full in the XMB.
Changed it to Limited (as I started to suspect the tv didn't support full) and it made a world of difference.
Helghast triad is much more visible in test but the best thing is that the game gets a surprising boost in picture quality. The image is pretty much flawless now.

Maybe you should post a video, I find it hard to believe you let go so many clips without hitting much.

I play with full sensitivity and lining up shots is not an issue, hell I play with no hud and still hit without the crosshair and without zoom.

Do you move a lot while you shoot?

Ah, I don't know what to tell you then man. All I know is that I knock helmets off of guys who are in cover and kill them before they can pop up, and took five heads off with the single shot rifle in the warehouse earlier today. I play with Alt 2, hold zoom, and default sensitivity.

Maybe my brain is delayed in sync with the game lol. Although I will say that it's a bit more difficult to be accurate with the scope (on all of the weapons in the demo) than in most games. I think it's a combination of the acceleration and lack of aim-assist.

Well the iron/fine sights are only really good for very long distance shots. Shooting from the hip, in this game more so than any other shooter this gen, is more than enough.

Holy fuck is the alt 2 setup better than the default

...that is all
Until you try to use cover. Best to just stick to the defaul its actually pretty nice after a while. Online though.. their is no cover. I'll use alt 2 all I want online :D

Not because of your opinion, but because of what you seem to be in the eyes of some.

The only reply to your opinion reads

You have been treated quite kindly.

Also, there are exceptions. You know. :P

If I had the means to make a video I would. I was using the Hig gun if that makes a difference and I was using bust fire. I rarely hold the trigger down in any game, I almost always go for short bursts. And no, I was not moving around. I was sticking to cover and popping out for shots.

It's actually not, especially with the way the game handles cover for the single player.

For multiplayer it makes no difference though.

I agree.

Alt 2 would work just as well if cover toggled I think. I like the default but in a way I hope they add the toggle option to the controls if only to help people used to COD games.

I don't think it would hurt the games feel either.

I set my Resistance: Fall of Man controls to Alt 2/COD4 style back in November 2006, it's just how I roll. Except for L1 aiming, but zoom was all but useless in R:FOM. Pulling the scope up with the stick that you're using to aim is very awkward, and having it on toggle will get you caught in zoom a lot. Default may be best for single player, but I'll be using Alt 2 all-around for the sake of MP.

That a sadist mod locks the thread when it's just one view away from catching up lol. *shudders to think of the meltdowns* edit: and deletes it too, I guess view count would keep going up lol

I haven't really been following the hype, but I went to metacritic and...wow.

This is like Pablo Honey to The Bends style upgrade

This post in confusing me.

EDIT: Killzone 2, Radiohead, Metacritic...
EDIT2: OHHHH. Wrong thread.

The aiming reminds me of playing as a merc in the Splinter Cell multiplayer games, although I too can feel a delay when first instigating movement. I hope it doesn't get in the way of multiplayer, as I'm really looking forward to the warzone game mode and class system.

You guys should look into this controller:

Cordless Precision

I just got mine a little while ago and its working out REALLY well for KZ2. Way better than I thought. I used it with Standard 3 (I think) and the shooting feels so much better. Only draw back is that there is no sixaxis or rumble which you dont really miss TOO much. And the triggers are a little stiff but thats nothing some regular playing wont fix.

It also feels much better in my hands. Pretty darn amazing. The sticks are also a bit stiffer so the "floatiness" isnt really there as much. A lot more precise.

Am I the only one who, after playing the KZ2 demo for half an hour and then going back to CoD4, thinks that getting kills in CoD4 is so damn easy?

Is your avatar emphasizing the face on his back, or am I the only person who can't unsee two eyes, a nose, and a big mouth?

Eh, it works fine with cover as well, and that's with only one finger on L1/L2. I'd hate to bring up the way I play it for the tenth time, but it works pretty much flawlessly.

It's intentional.

And wow, I never saw this on Penny Arcade. It's from the 4th but I don't remember it being posted with the comic they did:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2009/02/04/rise-faithful-servant/
We suggested after an afternoon with the beta that Killzone 2 was a game owners of the PlayStation 3 could clutch to their chests like a babe and love without reservation. As a wholly owned studio, the Guerilla Games charter is concise: create a world-class shooter native to (and definitive of) the PlayStation 3. They were given the tools, and the time, and three years into the life of the system the only surprise would be if they hadn't delivered something noteworthy.

Unlike every other website in existence, we were not given a prerelease copy of Killzone 2. Why? Clearly, we're too street - our thug mentality too 'hood. They know that when we grip the mic, we spit it raw, straight off the dome. Or, it's possible that there is some other reason. But in general, people I trust not to lie to me have deemed it worthy. There are some outlets that are only providing previews and impressions, because they don't feel they have access to the full product's multiplayer offering yet. And certainly, we can talk about enemy variety or whether or not it offers co-op or some other damn thing. But that's that's not what this day is about. The brushing breeze is redolent of bluebell. This is a day of rejoicing.

Some serious bitter happles here. Poor, poor Penny Arcade. They clearly think so highly of themselves.

Hmmm won't that means you have a advantage in sniping as your hand doesn't shake the sixaxis?

Made this gif just to show you guys WEIGHT. lol input lag.

See how Sevs knees buckle? and also look how it takes him a partial second steady his aim.

i think most problems people are having with this game stem from the way they are playing it.

being a big fan of stalker and tactical-styled shooters i waltzed through my 1st playthroughs using cover, popping heads and throwing grenades where appropriate. eventually my housemate gave it a shot and i was kind of suprised to see him dying repeatedly.. but watching him play i could understand- he didn't protect his back, allowed himself to be flanked, wasted clip after clip on enemies using cover, choosing bad positions to shoot from etc.

i didn't start dying until i began experimenting with things. have no problems with the melee moves, have taken down many a helghast in the warehouse with the rifle butt. just like in real life you've got to start swinging before they do.. no running up and tapping the button at the last minute

it's just not a twitch shooter, and for that i'm personally glad. from first impressions it strikes me as a 'thinking person's' shooter, much like i feel stalker was. i hope the rest of the game pans out that way too and i'll be happy :)
