There's two of them. The one in the demo is super powerful.
My GOd, that must be one of the best .gifs I've ever seen.

The animation is in a league of its own.

How do you get that rifle in the demo?
When you enter the warehouse there is a hellghast on top of a small room roof, he has the rifle.
You have to wait until he gets closer to the edge of the roof ,and then shoot him (try to aim to the legs),and when he falls grab the rifle.

I dont think the head is being blown off, I think that's just the helmet.

I think the head itself just exploded in that satisfying cloud of red gore.

Or, you can throw a grenade behind him to blow him off the roof twoards you. At least, that's what I did because I couldn't get him to fall correctly just shooting him.

Cut scenes, I think they are an Uncharted type deely, cgi but using models from the game. Plenty of in game dialog. The story is fine, it has some emotional moments and for the most part, they're carried off well (hate to keep ragging on Gears 2, but HAVE YOU SEEN MY WIFE?!?). Its solid, just not particularly memorable, no worse than any other game of this type.

Wow interesting... I like those kind of things!

I'm hoping that all self-respecting GAFfers will be playing this on Veteran with no cross-hair for their first playthrough :D

I'm gonna play on veteran but wuss out and keep the cross-hair... maybe.

Veteran feels perfect for this game. Not too hard, even on the first time through, but forces you to play well, take cover and use plenty of nades.

:O
::turns on ps3::

Actually, on second thoughts, probably best to play through with the crosshair on Veteran first time through - then you'll feel extra hardcore when it gets removed by default on Elite!

Finally downloaded the demo and played it. Holy shit it is awesome. Had to turn the sensitivity up though. Controls are good otherwise. My god the graphics and sound. Never before have guns felt so satisfying to shoot.

I now join the helghast avatar club with greatpleasure after playing the demo. I know it is a bad paintjob but it gets the job done.:lol

Fuck me, did the body start twitching at the end there? Gotta go get this rifle again, didn't really like it the first time I got it.

Uncharted was actually using realtime engine for cutscenes, but they just recorded them as video files, it wasn't pre-rendered CG.
I don't think that's the case here - it looks like KZ2 is using fully realtime rendered cutscenes. Are you sure you've seen compression artifacts or something of that kind? In the demo, transition between the intro cutscene and the gameplay was completely seamless.

Oh trust me, it's awesome. Saboteur+StA14 was literally a killer combo in the MP beta.

Actually, that's exactly what it was, even by your own definition. :lol

I played the demo like 20 times already, and i noticed that sometimes the enemies dont die at the same instant you shot them, they sometimes move a little or try to crawl... and then die. @_@

For all the people with RETAIL-PROMO:

Sony says that MP servers "will not be up close before 27th"

(Damn it, I want to build my stats ASAP)

"Sony has told Eurogamer that Killzone 2 multiplayer servers are not active, and won't be until sometime close to its launch on 27th February.

Thus, the pre-release promotional copies currently out there will not work online until servers are up and running. There's nothing wrong with the discs themselves.

The platform holder was speaking after reports of Killzone 2 promotional copies not working online popped up on the official US PlayStation forum."

you know, one thing i never understood that FPS do is that, when you zoom in, for a lot of these FPS, you actually zoom in on the target.

It's like, instead of moving the gun up to your eyes to aim, you move your head to the gun.

It'd be kinda cool where when you zoom, you don't actually zoom in for a closer distance, but just be able to see down the site in future FPS's

The demo doesn't have any cutscenes, what you see at the beginning is gameplay.

The cutscenes are recorded off engine and touched up. This is done so the game can load while you watch the cutscene (just like Uncharted).

Exactly. I 99% sure it doesn't even use higher-res models. Everything you see in cut-scenes is real time + in-game models.

Since the beta they seemed to have changed the ironsight a little bit and increased the size of the reticule. The gun is a beast in mp but you only start with about 8 shots. It takes 3 body shots to take out non-assault classes and is very accurate over long distances, but also quick enough to win in close range if you have suprise on your side. Fortunately, suprise shouldn't be too much of an issue as this gun belongs to the Saboteur class.

If that was the case, you wouldn't see loading screens between levels (just like Uncharted).

I'd love a dev would confirm here, but I'm pretty sure about it.

Oh so there IS loading times between levels? I was unaware of that.

I thought there were only loading screens when you first start up the game, and then all the other loading was done behind the scenes. Wow if true.

I think this is right. All cutscenes are in-game, maybe only the last one is somehow touched.

Every LEVEL have to load, but CHAPTERS are loaded in real-time. Those are also the only moments when game somehow hicks-up for a second, but it's even not worth mentioning.

Cutscenes and in-game look the same to me, except the obvious CG intro stuff.

Yep. That's what I'm saying. Just look at Garza's model right after they escape the ATAC at the end of the second level for example.

Protip: Uncharted doesn't load during cut-scenes, you can skip them and the game will start immediately. KZ2 doesn't either.

I believe a dev either someone on this forum or on the KZ website stated that the cut-scenes were real time.

Yep. Every levels starts after a (quite long) loading screen. I think it caches some data the first time you load a level cos loading that level again after quitting is a bit faster. Basically, it's like Halo.

how the hell do you aim without the crosshair?... only with ironsight?

veteran agreed.

Only with ironsight. Turn-off the hints and crosshair (HUD is handy because it shows you weapon pickups) in the first coming-through and you'll be much happier with yourself later.

I'm pretty confident that I remember load times (granted short ones) that were only there if I had skipped the cutscene.
