So it really does seem like they are getting away from the sev storyline....even after how KZ3 ended?

huh......
He'll probably be in the game, much like the original Killzone character was in KZ2.

Sev and Rico would be gods in Vekta after what they did in KZ3.

Or the most infamous people on the face of the planet.

Earth and Vekta sent the ISA to Helghan simply to capture Visari and get out. Thanks to Sev and Rico, not only is Visari dead but the entire planet is inhospitable. Can't imagine their government and society is very pleased about that, especially considering how they must now share Vekta with the Helghast refugees.

I'm glad the hardware for what that preview was developed on was revealed, at least now I know I can rest easy about that. Was extremely iffy about it since the initial KZ2 reveal trailer years ago.

Now to just hope the BC situation works alot better than what they described.

This is precisely what has annoyed me about the Killzone series.

Killzone 2 had a superb FPS campaign with brilliant pacing. Every encounter with the Helghast felt like an actual battle.

This on the other hand seems to be COD set in space. Aim down sight > Shoot > Kill, rinse and repeat against waves of brainless enemies.

I simply hope this demo is simply some kind of 'tech demo' as opposed to a more true gameplay reveal.

Probably a tech demo with reduced enemy counts and dumbed down a.i. (they didn't have death animations scripted, right?) in order to ensure a smooth demo of relatively early footage. Plus this segment is probably very close to the start of the game. It doesn't match the KZ2 gameplay reveal, but I expect things to get a lot more interesting by or at E3.

i'd love to see sev in the game again, purely because he was so attractive. we need more bears in video games that aren't over-the-top muscley.

Confirms KZ was definitely developed on less capable hardware:

but I still need more verbatim confirmation to buy it

I was a big proponent of KZ3 and one of the few players who took Move/Sharpshooter seriously and the main reason I really stopped playing was the unsmooth framerate. Absolutely beautiful game with 30fps. I moved onto to PC shooters and havent looked back. KZ4 seriously needs 60fps

I'd love to sit down and watch the live demo with Cevat Yerli, It would almost be like watching him take a swift kick to the teeth. lol

no it's completely expected. it's cute that people were thinking games would run at higher framerates.

OK, Sorry to ebhonest here, but those comments really pissess me off. There is a way of making games 60 fps, but would rather have more texture and more markatable graphics over fidelity? Also, this is Next-Gen with bloody 8 Gig ram available. Surely some of that memory should be geared for maximum fluidity and, hence, enjoyment...

THIRTY FRAMES PER SECOND HAHAHA

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Fuck consoles. Also it looks like an incredibly boring game.
To be fair, Killzone gamplay tend not to be excited until you play it yourself and immerse yourself within its atmosphere. This game kind of gave me a decent excitment just because of it colour use. But Yeah, anotehr FPS is no fun these days.

I'm amazed by people who are praising graphics and stating that "it's just a launch title". The problem is not to make pretty graphics, but rather to make it run smoothly on the given hardware.

But indeed, it does look very nice. However, it's quite hard to judge from an ugly youtube video. Would prefer to judge it when seeing it running live. It got lots of lens flare at least.

When I watched the Killzone presentation yesterday I wondered why the city had suddenly turned orange near the end of the demo.

The divided city is an surprisingly interesting setting for a Killzone game and I hope they don't just make you fight your way through the Helghan slums but instead really delve into the dynamic between the neighboring factions.

I can't believe I'm as excited for this game as I am. And that's not just because it's on the PS4.

Yeah, I read that in the announce trailer's description.

But then what happened to this? Note: Spoiler to KZ3 ending

People didn't actually think games would still be in 720p on Durango/Orbis right? That would have sucked. I'm sure we will get our share of sub-full HD stuff once in awhile but I expect the vast majority of games to be 1080p.

I want these added to the Killzone series:

  • Ability to go prone, not sure why you haven't been able to do that yet, it's about time
  • Objective/Spec Ops multiplayer online AND offline/splitscreen
  • Campaign multiplayer, up to 4 players online AND offline/splitscreen

Can anyone explain what about Killzone has people getting up in arms about? I thought it looked great.

Everyone thinks it looks great. Even PC gamers are taken aback and its evident by the gameplay and the laughable "le yawn another FPS" argument to divert attention away from the fact its easily the best looking game running in real-time by a mile.

I've already admitted it looks amazing and now that I've watched GIFs and the trailer a million times already unfortunately I'm starting to notice how CoDified the game looks which is disappointing =(

However, Killzone Shadow Fall is the undisputed graphics king as far as I'm concerned unless Deep Down is confirmed to be real-time gameplay with a person controlling the action onscreen (I doubt it).

I'm still keeping my hopes up for Killzone Shadow Fall despite the stupid looking gameplay segment they revealed yesterday. I love the series to death and was a HUGE fan of KZ2s multiplayer and believe the SP is the best FPS campaign this gen.

Therefore, my hopes are still high especially because the story concept looks fantastic. All I'm saying is PLEASE GG bring back the heavy gameplay of KZ2!!

I definitely dig the Cold War/terrorist vibe of this one. Hopefully the story is more interesting than the previous games and I don't want to throttle the protagonists.

That's what actually draws me to the game as well. I like the idea of there being this underground war between two sides of one wall. It's a far more interesting premise than a straight up war scenario. And this is coming from someone who quite enjoys Killzone.

You're right. Skybox was the wrong term. It's technically incorrect.

But I'm still not impressed by the scale. The scale does basically nothing for me, because it's not really anything new. Games have had huge vistas before.

Yet I'm not saying said Vista looks bad. Not at all. Shadow Fall looks incredible. The vista looks good because of the art direction and the processing effects used, not necessarily because it's big or because of scale (for me, anyway). I was just as impressed by the clean IQ and gorgeous detail once he landed on the surface.
But is anyone really saying they're impressed by the scale? Obviously this is not an open world game and that ground isn't traversible right then and there.

Anybody have access to a high quality downloadable version of either the announcement or the gameplay reveal?

Sorry if it's come, I took a look.

i don't think people should worry about killzone being more corridor shooter than before. linear, scripted segments are the best ways to wow people in a live demo like this. if this segment is like this, it doesn't mean that the whole game will be like it.

Yeah, I read that in the announce trailer's description.

Definitely fits within the context of this game. Here's what I think.

That guy from the pod is the new Helghast leader. He's not Stahl though, he's most definitely the guy narrating the trailer which sounds nothing like any prior characters. Devastated by the loss of his home world, he devises a plan to take over Vekta and make it the new Helghan. To do this, he manipulates the events that follow so that Vekta takes in and shelters Helghasts refugees. While segregated from the rest of Vekta, he secretly plans a massive attack to swiftly take over without warning. After thirty years of preparation, the bombing of the VSA tower in the demo marked the beginning of their re-invasion.

Doom 4 is aiming to do that,I hope the game is smooth online unlike KZ3.

They're going with 30fps SP and 60 multi? Huh. Seems weird and I'd only expect 60/60s or the reverse.

Agreed. Really wish we could split this up into 2 threads so we could have all the people who actually want to talk about the game and then everyone else who wants to talk about resolution and frame rate and other technical stuff.

Can someone show me a FPS trailer that looks exciting? They all look boring to me. I still usually enjoy playing the games myself, however.

I'm getting a little tired of the "AND THEN THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION AND CARNAGE" style to be honest, but yeah it's a pretty good system for gameplay and there's a lot of assumed things that don't require training.
