I am so unbelievably interested in this thing, but I'm honestly thinking about waiting until v2. Unless of course, tech reviews make this a must have for me.

Is it true this doesn't have Netflix or Hulu support (or do we not know yet)? I saw that in the nook thread but its such a huge oversight it can't be right

I mean, I like Amazon's video service and even bought a Roku for it... but I hope the Fire ties into other video services too

Any idea if they're going to sell out based on pre-orders? I'm getting one, but I have to wait till the 20th to order.

They've ordered millions more to compensate for the high demand. There shouldn't be too long of a wait, if any at all.

how reliant is this on Amazon services? In the UK we don't have the video service etc, but will this still be a standard android tablet - albeit using the amazon android store?

keep your strippers out of my American football
Bought one for my mom and one for me to play around with.

I am concerned that the screen size may be too small for my mom, but we will see.

Whatever you can fit on 6 GB.
You can also get storage at Amazon, just like for Apple. I think you can get 5GB for music for free as long as you have an Amazon account, and then you can pay monthly for more.

But yeah, you get free cloud storage for anything you buy on Amazon, and that's kind of the big draw of the device.

'quite a bit' was my impression. someone correct me if i'm wrong but we don't have the Amazon cloud here either.

As far as I know this device will not even work outside of the states. I recall reading that somewhere...
But even if it isn't, it is so reliant on their services that won't work outside of the states that you're better off getting a nook touch if you're international.
Kobo has a new tablet but its not giod enough for the averagr gaf member

Just googled it. Kindle fire.not available for international shipping. Canadians in the dark due to the services not working. Basically the kindle fire is a big paperwieght unless you're an American

I have one on preorder. Has anybody heard anything about stock or ship quantities on the 15th? I didn't preorder day one.

I'm sure quantities will be available by a large margin. With them using the same chassis as the BB Playbook, I'm pretty sure these are being pumped out of the plant at rapid speed.

Same. Though I never really need a device like this.

I can't possibly put into words how devastated I am that this isn't available in the UK yet.

Do want. Badly.

Pre-Ordered the day it was announced. Can't freaking wait.

199 tablet with everything it can do was too hard to pass up. Screw paying 500+ for an iPad.

Thanks OP for the OT :).

Ordered one for my wife's birthday. She's going to use it for viewing PDFs and reading ebooks. She's very excited.

Shit now it will have Netflix? This changes everything. Anyone know if you can upload your own personal videos not purchased through Amazon, and possibly store them in cloud?

I'm pretty sure you can upload anything to the amazon cloud, but I'm not sure about the Fire's ability to play them back.

Is this essentially an ipad?

Not quite. I mean, it's not a phone, and it's got a relatively big screen. For an Android tablet that's more in the iPad's range, the Transformer Prime or some such is more an equivalent.

Gamasutra.
Netflix? YES.

I wonder if they're going to make good on this ship date listed in my account...

Gamasutra.
Yes, the 16th. Same as y'all have, I guess.

Edit: Just to clarify, that is the expected delivery date.

At $200... if you can afford it, just take the plunge. I bet you can sell it even a year or two from now for $100 still.

Thats my plan. I know eventually the 8.9" tab and the 10.1 inch will hit the market. Once those do, if its worth the upgrade, I'll sell my current and purchase the new model.
