Kinect would actually be perfect for Series S right now & it would make Series S the "it" product instead of the "what is it" product

Did you not just see that Switch Sports sold 8 million in a few months & Ring Fit sold over 14 million also Just Dance still sell pretty good every year
That's the Nintendo fanbase, you don't have and never will have that on Xbox, people raised with the juggernaut that was Halo for like 3 generations, could care less about motion control games

Kinect (and Wiimote) was only successful as a flash in the pan because it was new. Once people realised how bad the actual games were they stopped giving a fuck.

Case and point: Xbone came with with an improved kinect and no-one wanted it.

Kung Fu Reaction GIF

The kinect was the trash that nearly killed the xbox brand and essentially ruined the xbox one's image (up until the slim and X released)

Leave it in the pawn shop collecting dust where it belongs

Yep OP is correct dropping Kinect was a reactionary big mistake imo. They shouldnt hve shoehorned it in. That was the problem. I think they could use something like this for the mid gen refresh.

I bet anything that a Series S + Kinect bundle would be doing better than what Xbox Series S is doing now

You'd lose that bet. The world has moved past such things

And MS is struggling so hard to make enticing new experiences that they are literally throwing 70 billion dollars at the fucking window to do it, instead of utilizing what they have.

And this part makes no sense

I don't think anyone has much nostalgia for motion controls, let alone the Kinect's take on it. Beyond that, there are zero studios out there eager to put in the risk, time, and resources to invest in making games for a dead peripheral.

Then we also have to consider how willing Microsoft itself is to invest in side projects. They still utilize basic-ass controllers with the same retinue of features from like 2009. They haven't ever even dipped their toes in new OS related features like game cards or whatever the heck they're called on PlayStation. They don't even seem willing to do VR unless I missed some bit of news.

Really all Microsoft needs to do is release some exclusives the majority wants to play. That's it. That is what got Sony back on top. They bought all of these studios and invested so much money but we're still living through years with either no new releases, or just more Forza or Halo.

TLDR: lack of innovation or trying new things isn't what has been causing Microsoft's decline in sales. It's the lack of games.

Xbox most successful years was when cheap plastic guitars were released . Hate it or love it cheap plastic guitars would give Series S a big boost right now & they would actually be selling games again.

No thanks, if they'd do something like that again I'd rather see some new gimmick. Kinect kinda sucked.

No no no no. Nobody cares about kinect but 10 people on this board, and they all own xboxes already.

Gimmick generation is over man, none of those who bought a wii/kinect/move for the motion control fad ever came back for more, it served it purpose back when it was released, nowadays no one would care, in fact, majority didn't with the Xbone+kinect release, why suddenly it'd work out 10 years later? :messenger_expressionless:
VR and DualSense are a thing, you know.

But I agree that Kinect had it's time and it's now over... But someone said here that it would have found success in the pandemic and I agree too, lol

They probably could do another kinect today, and some casual players would have nostalgia for those shitty dancing games a decade ago. Kinect almost killed Xbox when they bundled it with the xb1 at launch though and would have if they doubled down on it.

I think their huge investments in buying game studios shows they aren't going to become a casual shit factory like during the Matrick days.

Xbox are having trouble with first party output as it is. Don't take more resources to make kinetic games. Kinetic was a success in 2010. It's not 2010 anymore.

GAF 2013: Kinect is killing Xbox.

GAF 2023: Kinect could resurrect Xbox.

If Nintendo botches the Switch's successor I swear people around here will suggest exhuming Iwata.

I actually laughed loudly at work..thanks OP. Good one

I agree with the OP, if Microsoft had released and supported the Kinect with fitness/party games the Series S could have gone after part of the audience that brought into the Wii. I know a lot of people that brought the Wii mainly to play fitness games and I dont see any of the big three going after the gamer-excercise market. A new Kinect Sports could do well if implemented correctly.
Even with franchises such as Sing and Scene-It? that were popular on the Xbox 360. Sony supported the PS2 with games like Buzz and Singstar well after the PS3 had come out and made the PS2 an inexpensive party box that appealed to casual users.

I can't imagine what your reaction was when Kinect was selling gang buster at the time. If your distain for Xbox and all things Microsoft is this obsessive while in last place can't imagine what it was when they were on top.
Technically someone could take the time to go through your post history to find those reactions at the time of the Kinects reign since your time here goes back that far.

But in a hypothetical world they could've just kept the Kinect as an accessory and allowed third parties to implement some kinetic shit in there games if they felt compelled to. And some Microsoft studios could've made some kinetic games here and there. It could've sold well during the pandemic and then tapered off.
But you of all humans would know the reception from the hardcore community was nothing but jokes so they killed it.

Putting one or two studios on shitty dancing and fitness games would churn out stuff much faster than a Halo or Starfield.

There is an audience for those kind of games and the Series S is cheap already. A Kinect shouldn't be the primary focus like it was a decade ago that almost killed their brand.
