Kingdom Come: Deliverance II | Review Thread

Yeah controller user here. And i remember reading that they did improve the lockpicking with a patch, later after i had played so maybe its not that bad now anyway.

Its just the first game had a lot of jank and clunky mechanics, but that lockpicking was so frustrating lol. I'll probably wait and see what people on Steam say about it.
Maybe it's because my henry was a total noob with lockpicking but i tried the game like a couple of months ago with a controller and it was easily the worst, more annoying lockpick minigame i ever tried in my life bar none, i don't even want to imagine how bad it was pre-patch.

I have yet to play the first one, but apparently the save system was an annoyance in the first one and it remains unchanged. Won't know until I try it, but overall it seems quite good.

Yeah, I think I'll pass on this one as well unfortunately. The combat is just not my thing at all and they barely improved it based on the gameplay footage - it just looks goofy and unrealistic as hell. All the junk is still here, the facial animations and conversations are still as bad as in the original game which'll make even the original Horizon blush and after Forbidden West... Well, it's just not gonna cut it, frankly. The same exact bugs as in the first game are still here as well which... heh, okay, good luck fixing them again I guess.

Ugh, what a shame, really, cuz I think the game is really good when it comes to story, but at the end of the day you're playing the game first and foremost and the "playing" has to be good as well as everything else and if it's not, then there must be alternative, fully realized and good ways of playing like in modern Deus Ex, where you can finish the game without even fighting anyone 95% of time - the combat is not that good in these games as well.

Anyway, have fun everyone if it's your thing!:messenger_spock::messenger_relieved:

Good reviews except there's a lot of grumbling about the save system being restrictive, but it sounds as if you can just 'save and exit' whenever you want a save outside of the game mechanics?

Agreed, I think you need to be a huge immersive sim fan to jive with this game and after watching the janky combat I just can’t

Not for me, at least not unless word of mouth after the dust settles is extremely positive and it drops in price. Feels like another dragons dogma situation

Game looks drab and boring to me.
Yea if you are a big fan of Sony/Ubisoft games, stuff like this or Baldurs Gate isn't for you, but there's some Assassins Creed coming this month i think, so you are eating good soon

On a serious note, Europe can't stop winning, feel like after this 2025, at least 3 of the 5 games of the generation so far will be BG3, Cyberpunk and KCD 2 (and Elden Ring ofc)

This game already had one of the best previews i've seen in a long time so high scores were expected, and even if it doesn't score as high as many other games, it'll have a much better word of mouth, this will be my only game for February unless somehow Avowed delivers.. doubt it tho

Imagine the games industry if American developers hadn't become total trash and we had games like Oblivion and Mass Effect instead of Starfield or Veilguard lmao.... at least China might be coming to help save it with Wukong and Crimson Desert

I hate soulslike games with a passion....but KCD was pretty easy to learn and play. Different people, different tastes. :messenger_peace:

I literally still don't get the gameplay loop in this. Is it like Elder Scrolls? is it a survival game? is it like The Witcher? someone help lol
Its like skyrim, but its more grounded, aka actual middleages in center/eastern europe, no magic/dragons or supernatural stuff, game is actually hard too, casual/weekend players will die lots in there if they just go in button mashing w/o any tactic or thinking, its more like knight sim but western rpg too.

It's an open-world game, no magic, where you immerss yourself of being a peasant.
You can't read, fight and barely hold a beer.
In time you will soldier up, and become the man you always meant to be.
And no all the games you listed aren't quite what made KCD special.

I don't agree here at all though.

Dragon's Dogma 2 has really shit story and the way it's delivered and written, but gameplay variety and the quality of combat is just on the whole other level in comparison to KDC1-2. I mean, yeah, DD games are 3rd person and it's impossible do to anything it does in 1st person, but still, gameplay is gameplay, it doesn't matter if it's 3rd or 1st person.

I only hope that DD2 won't be the last one and maybe they'll re-release the game and improve the story at some point, cuz good lord it sucks ass big time.

Oh yeah I don’t disagree, I’m just speaking more about reviews. There were a lot of high scores for DD2 initially but then the dust settled and outlets seemed to be less enthused

I’d much rather take DD2 gameplay over what I’m seeing from KCD2

I have a difficult time enjoying games that rely solely on gimmicky systems over mechanics (Starfield, etc)

that. This game, like KCD1 and unlike DD2, will stand the test of time

Why do you think that? I expect KCD2 will be quickly forgotten especially once MHW comes out

It’ll not be featured on any GOTY lists either

Granted, it doesn’t meed to, but as you say the game is quite niche. Kudos to the team for a successful sequel because it seems like it does resonate with some, though.

More people have been playing KCD1 6 years after release than some much newer RPGs. Its quality speaks for itself.
As for GOTY lists, early in the year games have it difficult, but we'll see. There are lot of 10s and 9s in that opencritic list.

Yeah it's just not your cup of tea. And that's fine. People are being needlessly harsh to you due to baggage from other threads, which I think is unfair. You do you, man!

Yeah I will say that while I’m not Day 1 on this I still may give it a shot if it still stands up after some time and goes on sale later in the year.

It certainly looks like it’s made well overall

I have had games in the past where I thought it wouldn’t be my cup of tea only to have my mind changed and ended up greatly enjoying it - Metaphor, as an example

Misogyny? In medieval times?? Well I'd never!

In a period where women were tagged as simply being Virgin / Mother / Witch / Trickster / Whore

You won't believe this but

The church is also oppressing in this game, omni-present everywhere you go, the peoples you talk to. WTF?

Also Henry didn't wear proper PPE (Personal protection equipment) when smiting, he surely inhales very unhealthy fumes

6/10
