yes, that is precisely what is happening.

It saddens me that this is allowed, not because I want to censor, but because the KKK has been using terrorist tactics for centuries, and they get some kind of pass.

They are composed of criminals and willing to commit criminal acts of terror to further their goal.

Would you allow ISIS to hold a rally in your town?

I don't think there's any legal basis they can use to NOT grant them the permit. I say let them. Let the media descend upon it, and show them for the horrible people they are.

In 2015, hundreds of guys in white hoods are going to be shouting "white power" on the steps of the South Carolina State House, defending the battle flag of the Confederacy. I can think of no better thing that would show the hateful things this flag stands for.

Guys what if the KKK actually isn't racist anymore and is doing this because they know this will only help get the flag taken down?

Seriously though, how can they actually think they are going to get their way for anything they rally for. They're the goddamn KKK.

It is illegal to provide material support to a terrorist organization, and the KKK was founded as a terrorist organization in the 19th century. So there is that.

Talk to someone in it, the most delusional human beings you'll ever meet.

But it has nothing to do with white supremacy, I don't get it...

I've seen some of my friends on Facebook try to justify it's existence with this very same comment but idk, time and time again, it's obviously proven wrong. There is a huge attachment to it being more about white supremacy than honoring those "ancestors" who fought for something that was lost anyways. So idk, I think it has everything to do with what the majority perceive it to be.

They're not legally defined as a terrorist organization though.

Yes, and that is a problem, because they still engage in terrorist activities.

with small time burning crosses in yards, conspiracy to blow up a state capital building, and numerous other charges in the last decade and a half all linked to the KKK I wonder why they don't qualify.

edit: and South Carolina does recognize them as a terrorist organization since 1997.

Do terrorist groups and hate groups not realize how unpopular they are, or do they just not understand the concept of reverse psychology?

I imagine they don't actually care about the confederate flag, they're going to use this as a recruitment rally.

By my limited understanding of the white supremacist movement, they believe that minorities are the pawns in the secret Jewish conspiracy to drive the white race to extinction. It's all connected.

Pretty much this, you haven't lived until you've heard how your relationship is playing into a Jewish conspiracy to destroy the perfect white race. Then ranted about how angylry said individual is that he can no longer say "nigger" in polite company, and then he adds that he's not racist at the end.

It's even in the OP:

Over the weekend, however, an activist, Bree Newsome, climbed the 30-foot flag pole and cut the flag down. She was arrested, and the flag was replaced shortly thereafter. Hours later, dozens also held a pro-flag rally outside of the statehouse.

:p

While some might argue that it is honoring their history, the fact of the matter is that it's become a symbol of racism and there is no denying that. I could just as easily say I want to wear a white cone on my head and drape a white robe over my entire body to reflect sunlight and keep me cool, but despite what I might think it means it actually stands for something terrible. There is nothing you can do or say to change that at this point.

You jest, but there are people who legitimately believe the KKK is just another government outfit used to influence events that incite racial tension. For example, one of these individuals might say this is a government operation being used to rabble rouse, taint, and ultimately remove the flag. Some wild imaginations out there.

Ahahahaha! I'd love to see what people defending the flag saying how it's not racist say once this happens.

They'll probably say along the lines of, "KKK is a small group of folks that I would least worry about. The stars and bars represent the roots of my proud southern heritage." Something non-chalant like that.

As I said before, you might get, "the modern KKK isn't racist, they're just a group that looks out for the well being of white people. Trust me, I know, I have family in it."

BTW, this is bullshit, don't think I believe it, but I've heard it before.

And people said Bree's flag pole civil disobedience was the wrong way to go. It accelerated this thing ten fold. Way to go Bree!

Seriously without her there'd be no controversy to draw the KKK out and really force the issue as being in of racism.

They're just gonna let a known terrorist group hold a rally in front of a government building in the same state a racist white terrorist shot up a black church just a few days before? Is that right?

This is a mental illness problem. Or a class problem. Or a freedom of speech issue. Or something.
