klonoa 2

What's everyone's take on this game? I think it's an awesome game, even though it's easy and short. Not enough people seem to know about this game but it's one of the PS2's best titles. Is there a 3rd in the works? Please tell me there is...

It's not as good as Klonoa 1, but what is? I liked it a lot. More games should execute a simple set of play mechanics brilliantly like this one does.

Yeah, it's awesome. Really charming game.

Cue jarrod explaining how it isn't as good as Klonoa 1 or any of the GBA Klonoa games.

IIRC Klonoa 2 bombed in the US. Maybe Namco will give us a Klonoa 3 for the PS3, but I wouldn't be on seeing any new console Klonoa any sooner.

One of your characters can wear a Klonoa costume in Tales of Symponia though.

Does Klonoa 1 capture the same sense of height that Klonoa 2 does? I really need to play all Klonoas now.

How many Klonoa games are there, and which haves have come/will come out in the US?

Klonoa Door to Phantomile (PSX) - in the US
Klonoa Moonlight Museum (Wonderswan) - not in the US
Klonoa Empire of Dreams (GBA) - in the US
Klonoa 2 (PS2) - in the US
Klonoa G2 (GBA) - coming next year to the US
Klonoa Heroes (GBA) - not in the US
Klonoa Beach Volleyball (PSX) - not in the US

For my money:

Klonoa DtP > Klonoa MM > Klonoa G2 > Klonoa 2 > Klonoa EoD > Klonoa Heroes > Klonoa Beach Volleyball

Not really... It's closer to the GBA ones than the PS2 one in terms of presentation, except for the godly cut-scenes / voicework.

Thanks brandonn. I hunted around after I posted that and tracked down the 3 Klonoa games released in the US.

Though it's still pseudo-3d, and not 2d... just to clarify.

Hey, the volleyball games isn't that bad.

Both Heroes and Volleyball felt like engines that Namco weren't sure what else to do with, so they tossed in some Klonoa characters and tried to cash in. Volleyball isn't terrible, but it didn't do anything for me, especially as a Klonoa game.

And rad, Mejilan, you'll dig'm all.

The PSX original really does have a gut-wrenching ending. Everyone seems to think that

was some sort of watershed moment in digital heartstring tugging, but

my god. Seriously.

Also neglected to mention that he's an unlockable character in the original Moto GP:

I can't remember if I've ever been so emotional as at the end of Klonoa 1. It is perfectly done... It's a suckerpunch of a story, and it's in a friggin' platformer of all thigns. It might well be the best story to a game ever, if only because it affected me more than any other game's.

You may think I am exaggerating or something, but I am not kidding at all. I guess I have the reaction to this that other people had to FFVII & Ico.

The only thing comparable that I can think of would be if they killed your cat at the end of Shenmue 1. I loved that little guy!

I just bought Klonoa 2 for my brother's xmas present. It's the gift that keeps on giving! (I buy games that I know people wouldn't usually buy for their xmas gifts :))

Really, this game is fantastic, highly recommended. I lot of throwbacks to NiGHTS in terms of atmosphere and presentation. Very cool indeed. I recently picked up and played through the first game as well, which I didn't enjoy quite as much, but its still fantastic. It kicks ass in terms of storyline though!

Huepow!! T_T

Wild, I was just playing the Klonoa: Door to Phantomile demo on the Ridge Racer 4 Bonus Disc the other day (comparing the Ridge Racer 60FPS demo to Ridge Racer DS... maaaan, why didn't NST port THAT?!)

Door to Phantomile has a cartoon style charm that the PS2 game lacks... the cel shading is better in the PS2, and so are the draw distance, etc., but Phantomile just makes you smile the whole time... plus, 2D gameplay using 3D graphics was more techno-wow back then. Still impressed with how the PSX game looks. Damn good platformer too.

Does Klonoa 1 capture the same sense of height that Klonoa 2 does? I really need to play all Klonoas now.

Not at all, but the camera system works very much the same way.

I agree that Klonoa 1's ending is just incredibly sad. I don't think I've seen anything else quite that effective in a game before...

I'm siding with brandonnn here, the end of Klonoa 1 was probably the most heartbreaking moment in gaming, ever.

Is is worth playing through Moto GP to unlock Klonoa, if just for sheer novelty value?

So, how are the GBA games?
Not...bad. Empire of Dreams (which I'm assuimg to be G1) was more puzzle oriented, but it's still a good time. I dunno about G2, though I'm very excited for some new Klonoa in my life.

G2 still has great puzzles, but it also brings some of the best platforming this side of original ManicMiner :P
It's my favourite GBA game, even ahead of MarioTennis.

If there's any justice in the world, Namco is working on PSP version right now - K2 graphics with G2 gameplay :D
