So close to a 50 hit combo but lost it a couple of time to silly enemies - stupid green shooting bugs or tiny archers.

Unlocked Diamond Knack earlier and decided to finally do all the Coliseum Attack stages.

Guy in first place on the leaderboards had put up some REALLY solid scores so it was definitely a challenge to find ways to do better. Like the main game there was something oddly compelling about this mode even if there's alot of frustrating randomness in enemy patterns. It looks really easy but there's quite a bit of timing (and luck) involved if you want to go super fast.

Made a video if anyone is interested, wish this game had a more interesting soundtrack but I used the 3 best tracks in my opinion, still so boring hah!

I'll probably move on to the Time Attack stages next.

Bored with this game - I'm in Chapter 9 I think? One of the things that bothers me is that there's no sense of progression with Knack. The game hands out pieces to him so he can grow big at times and, when it's expedient, it simply takes them away. I find that lazy game design and very frustrating. It's the same rinse and repeat cycle over and over.

I think I missed a chest(part for a gadget) in one of the beginning missions and now I'm ahead in the game. I'm guessing there isn't a chance I can get that until I start a new play through, right?

I found the Coliseum Attack stages fairly easy to 5-star. Especially if you have the Sunstone gadget equipped to give you extra shards from defeating enemies. Time Attack stages are a pain in the ass.

I was going to try for the Platinum Trophy for Knack but too many of the trophies are frustrating.

If I start a new game with emerald knack, does that then close off my current game too - I can't have two games on the go?

I only need one more part for my secret detector, but all it gives me are gems and damn double battery bits

I feel the same way. Playing on normal and it's just right for me. I feel like some people who hate on this game aren't even giving it a chance and that's sad.

Yeah that might be true. I just started this game and really didn't like the beginning at all. They do made some puzzling design choices and Knack just comes off as a dick ^^

I'm in 3-1 now however and the game is starting to turn around and I'm liking it more now. Sure there's some really stupid stuff and I'm facepalming through every cutscene but the game plays rather nice, is challenging (considering it's supposed to be a family game I would say too challenging) and I really think it looks quite nice.

I agree that getting 5 stars is easy, I was going for first place on the leaderboards.

Finally started the game co-op with my gf last night and we are loving the hell out of it so far. Really fun and the combat is rather good for what it's worth. The way they implemented drop-in co-op works great.

Btw, what exactly does circle do with 2p knack?

you can heal the primary player (uses a little of P1's sunstone power though)

How do you send items from the Mobile App to the game? I'm signed in on the App but the "Recieve Item" on the game is always greyed out.

Circle > Triangle sends relics to 1p. 2p knack gets relics by defeating enemies.

Didn't even notice this, my friend must have been pissed I was doing it all the time lolol

That happened to me a lot when I was going for it. xD I finally did it though. Felt so rewarding when it finally happened.

You have multiple save files. So just don't save over your current file and you'll be fine.

You can then load up that save whenever you want to go back for it.

Parts/crystals are independent though. You'd have to start over in a new save. You keep your unlocked Knacks, but you'll still get those crystals. Just got a Diamond on Very Hard. So frustrating. I just want gadgets to make the game easier. :p

Nearly done with my second play through (on chapter 13). Got all gadgets finally, and unlocked all knacks except sunstone and diamond. Is there a trophy that requires diamond knack? If not I'll restart to get the last 3 sunstone and then stop there I think - will use emerald knack for a hard run through.

MrArseFace
yes there is one.
you have to defeat all the bosses with diamond knack.

Arse. Although I guess you can chapter select for that one? Going to have to farm by the sound of it, only have three diamonds so far.

Next question - for a hard or very hard run through, would you choose emerald knack with no gadgets, or normal knack with all gadgets?

The O-O special move when you are big and have double battery is a sight to behold. Almost resogun levels of particle porn

Player two robo-knack can use circle+circle to do a mini blast super. If you delay the second circle press you get a few frames of invincibility but if you wait too long you'll lose the super. It does use Player one's super meter though.

No, you can't get chests in chapter select.

You have to do it in a playthrough. Just keep the save file and do it later.

There's also a trophy for getting all costumes for Knack that you'd have to do with Diamond Knack as well.

No. New game wipes all your stuff. Except unlocked Knacks. (but you'll still get those crystals)

You have to be connected to PSN. If your friends start over (whether new game or continue) then it resets the chests in their game.

Just finished it on Hard, which was Hard as hell, and then the game unlocks Very Hard difficulty!

Yeah... PASS!
Get Diamond Knack, then it feels pretty much like normal does with regular Knack. And there is a trophy for it. It was the last one I had to do.

Having played enough of this now, I do think my biggest criticism is the way new game+ is handled. You really should have been able to carry unlocked gadgets to higher difficulties; would provide more motivation for trying it out. Like I want to be able to start hard with say, the time dilator ready to go.

It seems like such a glaring miscalculation I wouldn't be surprised if they change it in a game update.

But I found that I got pretty much every useful gadget half way through hard and very hard playthroughs after knowing where all the stuff was. Got mostly gadgets for the first 5 chapters, then crystals pop up again, but still manage to get what I want fairly quickly.

Plus, if you use Knack's Quest then you can get gadgets faster too.

I don't think it matters. It'd be too easy to just carry over everything into a new difficulty. Some Knack's make it significantly easier already. Having gadgets from teh start as well would just kill any difficulty at the start. Which would make the game tedious.

Don't know why people wanted Knack's voice to be something else.

I think it fits. Little Knack is silent, which works. Big Knack has a hard design, it wouldn't fit to give him some goofy voice or 'cartoony' voice. It would just feel like all those mascot games of old that forced typical "me too" voices on every character just 'because'. Like you can't have a mascot without a generic cartoony voice.

yeah when i heard his voice i thought it was flipping badass , was kind of blown away how much people disliked it.

Ah good looking out, thanks!

Finished it on Hard. It was pretty hard at times. The story was pretty mediocre, but I didn't buy it for the story to begin with. Wouldn't mind a sequel to it. Also the credits scene was pretty hilarious.

I'd spare ANYBODY trying to beat this game in Very Hard as Vampire Knack.

I'm stuck doing it merely out of gaming pride right now...no way I'm going to give up even if it takes me month!!!

I'm of the camp that found some enjoyment with it, but would like much more variety in a sequel. I liked knack as a character, but just felt like the size changing concept was squandered. I beat the game and glad I did cause the ending credits were some of the funniest I've seen in awhile.

Crossing fingers this can become a gem of a new IP with subsequent games.

Traded in Assassin's Creed after picking the £27 Christmas sale version on the PSN and bought a used copy of this. Only played a couple of hours so far but I'm really enjoying it so far.

The only real disappointment for me so far is that your size is often mandatory which makes it feel a little forced. If you need to be a certain size to go somewhere you'll find a chest of artefacts waiting there for you. In the sequel I'd like them to open the game up a bit so certain routes are only accessible at certain sizes, a bit like Metroid in a way where you collecting things opens new routes.

I know it's a really small thing but I absolutely love the rattling sound coming out of the DS4 when you collect artefacts, there's just something really cute about it.

A couple of questions for people who know what they're doing.
If I've cleared a level but I haven't collected all the gadget pieces do I have to go back to that level to get the rest or are the pieces for each gadget spread across different levels?
What do you get by playing the Knack iPhone game? I've downloaded it but not tried it yet and was wondering if it's worth messing around with?

Played first seven chapters. Holy cow this game is really unforgiving. Playing it on hard, and it's starting to get on my nerves. Almost everything kills Knack with one hit, and returns me sometimes good +5minutes back (mostly because the battles take lot of precise planning). Will finish it on hard, no doubt, won't back down now :D.

Dunno how I feel about the game, though. It's really bare-bones action game, it might've needed some other activities too. Also the story has been rubbish (Same with the local dubbing, but that's not the OG game's fault).

I finished this last night. I'm trying to form a more thoughtful thesis on it, but Knack might be the least Japanese Japanese-developed game I've ever played.

It just helps you to get items that you'd otherwise find in the secret entryways in the walls. You can't complete a gadget through Knack's Quest but I believe you can get most of the parts that way. So, the side game isn't a necessity, just a help along the way.

That being said, mine appears to have glitched my main game. I only find jewels in the main game, never parts anymore. I don't know what's up. I have a bunch of Knack friends on PSN (thx GAF) but all of them only show up jewels for me to choose from, no more parts.

Man, any desire to play this game after I finished it a few weeks ago has vanished. I just can't get myself to turn on my PS4 and mop up the rest of the trophies and such. I really enjoyed my first run of this game, but now that I've gotten to digest the game I don't really know what to think about it. I think the Time Attack stuff is really boring compared to how Crash Bandicoot handled them back in the day too. Aesthetically, the yellow 5-5tar ranking stuff is so generic compared to the Bronze, Silver, Gold Ankhs from Crash. A game focused around relics too, you think it would have been so easy/appropriate to model a few 3D relics to represent your best times/records. I really hope Knack 2 (if it ever happens) cuts down all the fat and instead provides short, cohesive, tightly packed stages that lend themselves to a proper Time Attack "mode". The Time Attack stuff in this game takes small segments from the actual "levels" instead of actually having you run the entire stage. I guess they had to do that though since the levels are long winded. It's cool that those two modes are there for replay value and such, but the "speed run" and coliseum stuff here doesn't hold a candle to Platinum Ankh runs in Crash Bandicoot. Oh well.

So I finally got this game in the mail as I won it over a month ago.

Started on hard mode and am drunk. Good game. Unforgiving but takes me back to quatter munching games

Finally got the platinum! That King of Adventure trophy was the worst.

By the way, I highly recommend playing the very hard playthrough with Diamond Knack and someone else playing Robo Knack. It makes it infinitely more fun.

Gadget pieces are random. You'll probably need to go through the game again to finish all the gadgets for that trophy. I didn't get every gadget completed my first playthrough. I got it on my second normal playthrough.

All things are random in chests. And if you're going for diamonds (and other rare crystals for Knack costumes), it's best to keep going through the same file that you completed all gadgets on to cut out the fat a bit. Still tedious to farm them though. Since the best way is to find a chapter with quick to get to chests, open it, see what you get, if it's not what you need, to not confirm (confirming saves the game) but to instead close the game, restart and run through again until you get what you need.

Any tips for time attack or collesium mode? I tried the first time attack and getting good was difficult, even with diamond knack and getting fast kills. Do you need to aim for eg special attack kills or something else other than just time?

And are any of the other knacks good for those modes, not should I stick with diamond knack?

It's probably nothing, but is there any significance to the outlines of Knack's head that appear on walls at some points in the game? I've seen it in 3 or 4 levels and it seems to me like it marks a secret area or something, but there is nothing there from what I can tell.

Edit: It seems to just point out that you are near a hidden room, I guess.
