Konami Dates Silent Hill HD, Silent Hill Vita, & Silent Hill: Downpour (All In Q1)

It's like Diablo with all your favorite silent hill characters thrown. Why? Because that is what the kids wants. I wish I was kidding.

Do not want.

DO NOT WANT!

Oh, you guys. You make it sound like it's something far worse than it is.
It's just some Silent Hill handheld game that they're trying something different with. Let them do some weird, non-recognizable thing with SH once in a while. We get good things from the SH games like that.

I don't expect it to be, but it wouldn't be my kind of game, even if it wasn't SH skinned.

Not necessarily. Out of the non-traditional SH games (SH: Orphan 1 and 2, SH: Shattered Memories, SH: Arcade, SH: The Escape, SH: Play Novel) the Orphan games were the only ones I played and enjoyed. Arcade was only released in EU and Japan, Play Novel was only released in Japan (and it was utter shit), The Escape was initially only released in Japan and later ported to iOS, and Shattered Memories was terrible as far as I'm concerned.

Doesn't help much either that I find Diablo to be dreadfully boring, so making Diablo Hill doesn't look appealing to me in any way, shape or form.

HD collection - Buy if the original VA is available on BOTH games.
Vita - Fuck multi player garbage bullshit in my Silent Hill. Nobody should buy this so Konami can eat shit and die. Both Silent Hill and MGS deserve to go to other better companies.
Downpour - Buy if they take out those stupid on screen button prompts and helpful tip bullshit.

The saddest part is probably how Tomm Huelett is talking about it "oh and yes and a very special monster with a big sword will make a return" or something similar in the announcement video, just sickening to listen to. This is of course also the guy that thinks my chemical romance - mama is a good fit for silent hill and calls people who don't like the korn song in SH narrow minded, so it's hard to have too much faith in anything silent hill related under his control, no matter how many times he claims "i'm such a big SH fan, guys!".

Why do this when it's more fun to demand the standard survival horror template and then say "no Yamaoka = no sale".

Licht has already shown that he is pretty damn capable of making some great atmospheric music and I haven't seen anyone saying anything close to what you are saying here, no Yamaoka is a huge loss but I think they have come out of the situation well, hiring Korn however... Yeah fuck you konami.

Doubt the tips will go away but you can tick off button prompts in options.

I just don't like factually incorrect statements. They lead to misunderstandings and misinformation. In this case, people think the PS2 version actually has that amount of resolution, AA, AF, etc.

Yeah sure, was just pointing out that it wasn't like the PS2 version was missing those things. But yeah the PS2 version does look a good bit worse :

Nope. New characters
Recent change or something? When they showed it off, it had James and Heather and whatnot.

isn't book of memories being developed by WayForward? I know they've had a few lackluster titles but they're not exactly a bad developer...

They aren't, but one thing that's always important to remember is that there are two distinct modes that WayForward operates under: Pay The Bills and Passion Projects. BoM does not look like a Passion Project.

Nah that has always been the case. Some journalists or what not just got clever and tried to remake the old characters and some journalists got confused when they got to play it.

Well, that makes slightly more sense. Still, this project is the complete opposite of anything the fanbase wanted, but I guess we should be used to that by now.

I was thinking more along the lines of SH2, SH4, and SH:SM, but sure that works too.

Oh, right, everyone here still treats Tomm as the big-bad-ruining-silent-hill-forever guy. Sorry, I'll go back to hating him and everything he touches like everyone else does.

Oh there's a lot of people who has ruined silent hill, but he is the guy being a big troll about it everywhere. It's hard not to hate him with all the bullshit he lets out.

I don't blame Tomm Huelett for ruining Silent Hill (I'd blame Kojima and the rest of the suits at Konami first), but he certainly does not have a clue on how to handle the fans.

SH2 wasn't really very 'different' though. SH4 was, and it definitely suffered from it (even if I liked the game, despite all its flaws). SH: SM.. yeah, no.

Fixed that for you.
To be fair, I don't think it's possible to "handle the fans" in a way that won't cause back-lash.

SH2 not different from SH1? They shared a common location and gameplay style, but that's pretty much it.

SH4 definitely had its flaws, but it had a solid story and tried something that shook up the formula. I would still say it was a success, personally.

Oh... so you're one of those people? : (
People that like SH and don't like SM makes me sad.

Yamaoka wasn't responsible for making them the Metal Gear Solid company.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

If you're referring to the story, I'll give you that. SH2 was more psychological horror than SH1. I was talking about the gameplay.

SH4 was OK. Funny thing is, I had far more sympathy for Walter than whatshisname guy you played as. Also, limited inventory, unkillable ghosts and forcing you to go through the same locations twice just made for a not very pleasant experience. The story was kind of forgettable too, much due to the main character being completely bland and forgettable himself. Still, I liked the game for what it was.

I liked the story in SM, but that's about the only good thing I could say about the game.

The last original SH game I really cared about was 0rigins. Homecoming was just plain bad, and Downpour looks like more of the same, now with 100% more Korn.

Konami's just a horrible mess in general now-a-days. It's really sad to see, but that's how it goes, I guess.

SH2 had different tone of music, different visual design, no relation to the cult stuff, an escort npc, and hardly any red (yeah, I still think that matters).

SH4, yeah, but that's going to happen when the game is focused on Walter. It was his story, after all!
You have a limited inventory, people complain. You have an unlimited inventory (SH:O) and people complain. They really just needed to fix the way it was used more than anything.

: (
Okay... You are free to feel that way about SM, but it still will make me shed a tear every night, before I fall asleep.

That's for mid-year!

Oh man, that would be a really great thing to happen. Then I could own it on even more platforms, mwahahahaha! Still don't plan on getting a Vita, though.

I don't think the unlimited inventory in 0rigins was the problem, it was more that the game simply gave you far too many weapons to make up for the fact that weapons were breakable (which sucked in both 0rigins and SH4). Lugging around two drip stands, three file cabinets and a couple of typewriters (in addition to the firearms and regular melee weapons) at the end of 0rigins was a bit WTF. Also, the final boss in 0rigins was just a massive disappointment. The earlier bosses had been pretty cool, very Silent Hill-ish in design, and then comes the final boss; the most generic, red cartoon demon imaginable. Son I am disappoint.

Origins was a major disappointment to me anyways, since it's my least favorite. I don't know why people always hate the idea of Travis carrying around all those things, since SH2 had it possible to carry around multiple types of melee weapons, guns, a chainsaw, and a huge sword.

In origins, all you need are your fists and then a gun for the boss fights.

But, yeah, glad it has been fully confirmed and all that they're coming out then. My wallet won't be happy with them that close together, but whatever.

Origins (I am not typing a zero in there) had the problem of being a "greatest hits" title due to the drastic shift in development, but I can't imagine that it was any worse than what they were originally planning.

So what was the reason the HD collection got delayed?
Probably just because of the crowded schedule this fall. Granted, Konami is still releasing MGS HD Collection on the same day as MW3, but MGS is a proven entity on non-handheld platforms. I can't say I blame them for pushing it back a couple of months.

Konami needed more time to think of how to ruin the games. I heard they wanted to replace the SH2 soundtrack with the latest Limp Bizkit album.

Aww, I thought we were getting "Silent Hill 2: Electric Boogaloo."

Depressing but wouldn't surprise me if they ever did something like that (lol Korn). I wish so bad whoever's involved with SH at Konami could read posts like this and respond. I wish they would just be honest and stop fucking with fans so much. Explain their rationale, are they being run by idea ball manatees.

I liked SH4's environments though, one of the creepiest in all SH games.

I think it was Brian Gomez who was talking about how the whole Korn thing got in the works. Konami wanted a band to try and get more people to notice the game, konami made a list of bands that would want to/desperate enough for attention too that they would make a SH theme song and they ended up on Korn. So sounds like something that was just forced through and not something Vatra actually agreed on.

Calling Konami manatees is not that far from the truth I would say. The developers are also obviously frustrated at Konami constantly fucking up everything, like they will suddenly show a one year old video with things that has been dropped or changed a long time ago. Not to mention them also sending around the game to conferences without any representants or anything to tell them about the demo (that was built for another conference), so that journalists for example goes in assuming that the fighting level (there was two modes in the demo, a fight one and something that was from the game) is an actual part of the game and not just a mode in that demo to show off the fighting like it was.

Origins is still far and away the worst (canon) Silent Hill game ever made. Inconsistencies for the sake of inconsistencies,
twists for the sake of twists
, stupid (and broken) weapon degradation mechanic, shameless pyramid head knock-off, lifeless main character with ZERO motivation, atmosphere breaking shift mechanic that led to shitty level design, half-assed puzzles just kinda thrown in there for the sake of it, etc. There's a really good fan video out there that totally rips the game apart. Wish I could remember it =\

That being said, it was still enjoyable for the fact that they just don't make games like that anymore. I miss the old school survival horror games ; _ ;

HD collection is as good as mine. Never played neither SH2 or 3, and have been waiting for this, the only PS3 HD collection that interests me. The rest of that release line is not relevant to me.

Get the moon gauntlets and punch everything (excluding final boss) to death.

Typographenia said:
Probably a combination of the team needing more time and the whole voice acting debacle. Likely more of the time, less of VA, but yeah.

Didn't the 360 version help with the delay since it was originally announced as PS3-only?
