FIFA has announced a partnership with Konami to continue its FIFAe World Cup esports tournament, using the publisher's free-to-play title eFootball.

The Konami deal will begin with two FIFAe World Cup tournaments within eFootball later this year, one on mobile and the other on console. Qualifying matches begin today, and a champion will be named at the end of each tournament.

FIFA's chief business officer Romy Gai added: "We are incredibly excited to join forces with Konami. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to promote football globally and to provide a platform for players to showcase their skills. We truly believe in an inclusive ecosystem which allows different communities to be part of the FIFAe competitions."

Wonder if this might be the first tentative steps to fleshing out a full football title again?

Tag, you're it.
That's interesting, I hope they get back to PES with a new and amazing game. EA need some competition and eFootball never clicked with me unfortunately.

Damn, could this lead to Konami getting the FIFA license to make those games? Sorry if that's a dumb question I've been out of the loop here. That would be a huge cash cow for them.

So Konami was the rumoured partner for FIFA then? Wonder if eFootball will get a rebrand then.

I always assumed 2K, but building a football game from scratch is no easy feat.

Konami, is it hard to add a Master League,
which worked flawlessly on PS2, PS3, PS4,
but somehow "doesn't work" on PS5?

Hopefully this is good news, maybe it will push them to male Efootball a more fleshed out game, the return of Master League, and more game modes for real teams. PES has been a big loss for me and many others that prefer a more traditional football game and not into all thos Ultimate Team/Dream Team shit.

Which could work out great for us, and Konami, by Konami now being in a position to get Fifa to stump up the money - with all the risk - for all the lesser team licenses they don't already have for a profit share situation that brings over EA FC25 whales
The Fifa Pro license is the one that matters. Unless that becomes available, EAs wretched grip on the beautiful game is a lock unfortunately.

This is just FIFA branding on their eSports tournaments no?

They refused EA so what other that make football video games other than Konami?

Sorry I don't understand your reply.

FIFA wanted a lot more money from EA to keep the name and EA rightly told them to get lost. FIFA lost a huge amount of money. My question was how much if anything are FIFA getting from Konami to have the FIFA brand name, it mustn't be much and a huge loss and embarrassment for trying to overcharge EA for a name.

That license is able to be used by all - indirectly by signing all the clubs independently Codemasters Club football style IIRC - that can afford it, otherwise a legal challenge through the competition commission in the UK - at least for all Prem and English teams - is likely coming from Konami backed by Fifa money IMO.

It is sort of disputed if they were right in their reaction....it is sort of biting the hand that fed you. Fifa's demands were outrageous, but a counter offer with shared risk and profit share might have avoided this situation.

If the final outcome is that PES is called Fifa has all the licenses it will be heavily disputed that EA telling Fifa to get lost was a right decision.

Well yes if PES and EA's Football game swap positions it won't have been a good move long term for them. Seems a long way off to build that up, PES will have to come back for that, it's now free to play. Konami has its own long term following so any money they get will have to proven increased sales for Konami having the FIFA brand, so again I doubt it's much money at all even if they build a big game off of it and Konami will be wary of being asked too much themselves should they succeed in a bigger selling game which brings me to my main point, how much if any is Konami paying?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
That's kinda cool. The Winning 11 series was really good once upon a time - a hell of a lot better than EA's borderline-unplayable mess. Hopefully this helps turn the tides towards a potentially competent sports game for once. What a novel idea!

Should have turned to 2k and asked them to make a game
Gonna be honest would be massive if Visual Concepts was making the game.

Different sports but Visual Concepts already proved in several sports that can make ea sports sweat.

The presentation and the little things on their games are top tier in sports game.

Also their footplanting is pretty much one of the best in the industry.
I can see only the team behind Pro Yakyu Spirits do better (and they are from Konami lol)
But then again VC is behind of NFL 2k and All pro football)

The only thing is affecting NBA series at the moment is the lack of competition. They should do much better.....
Still a impressive series.

You don't need to. My League is all Vs AI and local multiplayer is in. This tournament itself is even described as offline IIRC.
Last time I tried the gameplay was very bad .. to my knowledge they were doing crossplay between mobile and consoles and this fucked up evrrything ... dont know if thats still the case though...

But if the release a game now with Fifa licensing and plenty of offline content even if you have to pay for them .. Im ok ... just want the old pes feeling back.

I think Konami are on a sale or return style situation. Fifa bringing in a tonne of new customers while the competition is active - against normal number - probably gets them a proportional cut of the MTX money.

At the end of the day, Fifa probably feeling EA had forgot that their name alone had gifted them the market for three decades and each year EA earned more, but didn't want to share that. If Konami play their cards right they can have everything they want, and still give Fifa a truck of mtx money each month and feel good that they're make ten times the money, with less risk and their gameplay is getting the accolades it deserves from the entire football playing audience - including those OCD whales that need a license.

Yes. It's hard to stuff it with microtransactions. They want you to play online multiplayer only and have FOMO eat away at you until you buy card packs or FIFAbucks™ or whatever shite they're filling this thing with these days.

Football Life 2025 everybody. Fuck EA and Fuckonami

At least they could have gotten my money, if it was a normal game, because I never ever pay micro transactions!
