Konami replaces EA as FIFA's esports partner (eFootball)

PES 5 was the peak for me, I quit football games after that, modern gameplay doesn't do it for me.

I quit buying them on PS3. I own Pro Evo 1-6 on PS2 and got the PS3 version but it had lost its magic gameplay. I tried the demos of Pro Evo and Fifa each year since and never felt they got it right, was never into FIFA since the early isometric game.

Lately I have given up on Pro Evo since it went efootball and FIFA was never the game I got into.

I still remember the people Konami employed trying to say they've listened to feedback and they've got it right this time. Whatever they had on PS2 it won't return.

It is sort of disputed if they were right in their reaction....it is sort of biting the hand that fed you. Fifa's demands were outrageous, but a counter offer with shared risk and profit share might have avoided this situation.

If the final outcome is that PES is called Fifa has all the licenses it will be heavily disputed that EA telling Fifa to get lost was a right decision.
team licenses don't come from the fifa license at all, basically it's only the fifa name and world cup

I'm not sure why you think I did say that; especially if you checked my post with a comment about Codemasters's Club football in this very thread, and across other related threads you could have noted that I mentioned Konami are a significant contributor to Manchester United's earnings and they actually get fully acknowledge, as I'm sure they are in Arsenal, Barcelona, AC Milan's, etc for being officially licensed.

They refused EA so what other that make football video games other than Konami?
They didn't refuse EA. EA refused them due to cost. It was costing like half a billion to keep the FIFA license. They lose nothing other than official fifa licenses so no world cup content in the games. All players are still included under the FIFPro license.

There is no way Konami is paying FIFA the $150 million a year EA was paying them. They really shot themselves in the foot by trying to be greedy.

I don't think this is PES becoming the next FIFA game (yet). I think FIFA just have to have a competent game to use for their eSports competitions and eFootball is kind of their only option.

Who knows eventually it might become something more, but I'd imagine other plans are being discussed for a FIFA project, maybe with other publishers, for a long term franchise solution.

Winning Eleven - greatest name ever for a football game
Pro Evolution Soccer - sounds arrogant and boring at the same time
eSoccer - it's dumb
FIFAe - everyone will just say "fifa", so this "e" is e-stupid

Winning Eleven/International Super Star Soccer/ISS Pro Evo/PES - greatest names ever for a football game
Pro Evolution Soccer - sounds arrogant and boring at the same time
eFootball - it's literal and makes sense for going forward with GaaS and competition eSports
FIFAe - everyone will just say "fifa" or "eFootball", so it might work out that the e provides the linkage for Konami to retain their brand and its value, and allow Fifa to harmonize with it.
Fixed that for you :)
