KOTOR2 - shaping up to be an excellent RPG experience.

The story has been so much better so far. And before people come up with the "ending let me down" crap, stow it.

Also, droids are the real stars. I dont get along with the rest of my team so far cause their assholes.

Obsidian can tell a better and more involving RPG story than Bioware. This is a fact with PLANESCAPE: TORMENT backing it up along with KOTOR2.

I'm probably 3/4 of the way through the game and I'm enjoying it too, although it took awhile for it to grow on me. I really didn't enjoy the "Jedi who can't remember" start to the story, but it picked up a few hours in, and I enjoyed it a lot more once I got my lightsabre.

I LOVE the character interactions so far, sooo much better and rings of torment. I also love all the smart ass answer options.

This is true when they're given enough time to finish the damn game. Unfortunately, that clearly wasn't the case with KotOR 2. =/ Not only was the ending rushed, but you've also got lead-ins to a few promising subplots that get cut short prematurely, and it's pretty clear that this is because they just didn't have time to finish.

About midway through the game, I felt KotOR 2 was a better experience than the original. By the time I finished it, though, it had fallen a few notches in my eyes. It's still a great game, just not quite as good as the first overall. The saddest part is that you can see how good it could've been, if they'd just taken a little more time. I'm hoping that they'll use the couple of extra months they have for the PC version to address some of that, though I'm not too optimistic. (If by some miracle they do, I'll buy the PC version, too.)

I'd agree with that too. The later planets don't have nearly as much space to explore and clearly there are some story areas that weren't fully developed. At this point I'm not sure I like it better then KOTOR 1, but I'm still enjoying the ride.

The story was great. Don't listen to the haterz. The little droid kicks ass + you can use him for a workbench.

Speaking of droids, I love Goto's response when you ask him for system tunnelers or whatever it is.

What are those tunnelers for?? I haven't played KOTOR2, but I played through 1 a couple of times and never once got them to work. I just couldn't figure out how to use them at all, and the manual and all the FAQs I read were worthless.

I kept 5 of the damn things with me for the entire game twice and never once was able to figure them out. In the final battle with my weakling consular (running running running away and trying to find something useful while I built up some Force again) I remember finding them cluttering up my inventory and I was just enraged all over again.

They're good for locked doors and those ever-present containers. When your security is too low to allow entrance, you can use a tunneler to boost your skill and, hopefully, open that what was locked.

Fun fact: not once did I put Go-to in my party. Really there was no need for it.

KOTOR > KOTOR2

I didnt either. I also didn't use Hannhabar or whatever the wookies name was (except that time where you were forced too).

I disagree with your second part, I liked both games pretty equally.

I like the use of "Fun Fact." We probably overused it at Xbox Nation, but hey!

Goto was sort of lame. I used him once on Dxun and quickly returned him to the ship.

Glad you are enjoying it. Im not far into the game either only just got off the first planet but I am having a blast and already the story seems much better!

I started this today & finished that first space station & got to the first planet. The game seems improved over the first. The design of the first planet is more straightforward, but not at all binding.

Hopefully this time my xbox HD doesnt crash & delete my saved game (I never beat KOTOR as a result).

I just started the first KoTOR. It's generally accepted wisdom that KoTOR1's skills are next to useless, outside of the first aid one. I can confirm this! Has this been addressed in KoTOR2, or is it still all about the feats and such?

Huh. Just got done putting yet another damn day of play into KOTOR II. I mean, I like the game, but I do have other stuff to do. Oh well, I won't rest until I've gotten all of the prestige classes!

The first few hours are a complete bore. However, once you get your lightsaber and start kicking ass and taking names, it picks up A LOT. The Telos Space Station is ridiculous, what with all that loading.

Drove me nuts. I was happy to get off the station, just to get away from the damn loading. Gave up on swoop racing because of that.

Just got to the surface of telos, and I'm digging the game overall. I'm tempted to load up KOTOR 1, though, 'cause I feel like the first game wasn't this fugly...but maybe I'm having selective memory.

Companion character comments:
Boa Dur is neat. Like the arm. Kreia's creepy mystery is being done fairly well, not too over the top. I do wish the 3d modelers could do a better looking utility droid- the little r2-wannabe guy looks like a box with wheels, and not in a good way.

Kotor 2 is definately increasing my anticipation level for Jade Empire, that's for sure. The recent article about it in Play magazine was pretty interesting reading.

Edit: I guess Bog's got a point. Spoilerified for the heck of it.

Yeah, I'm starting to notice this, I just left Nar Shadaa and the game seems to have accelerated in pace. The side quests on Nar Shadaa were awesome. But so far I am loving the story Kreia is one creepy old woman. I hop to have this done by the end of the month so I can comment. But now that I'm back at work full steam, who kows when I 'll have gaming time.

Obviously he's early on in the game and you idiots start talking about characters he'll get later in the game. Real nice.

The load times seemed to bother me more this time around as well. Maybe I just don't remember them as much in KOTOR, but they seem to be really common this time out. I don't want to spoil anything, but the loading on Onderon was plain silly.

Companion bonus quest question, for anyone near the end of the game:
I'm on the surface of Telos. About how far into the game will I be when I manage to get HK47 repaired and functioning (i/e, find all his parts). He was my favorite character in the first game, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in action again.

Answer:
Theres an FAQ on gamefaqs that shows you exactly how to get HK-47 (it doesnt spoil the game), but basically you can have all his parts pretty quickly if you know where to go.

On Telos, you'll get attacked by some HK-50s(if you haven't already). Make sure to snag the spare part one of them drops and put it in HK-47 as soon as you get the chance. Next, you need to go to Nar Shadaa. There is a vendor there that will have a spare HK part. Take it back to the ship and install it(you'll probably have to fight Visas first). Later on Nar Shadaa, you'll have to fight 3 more HKs with only TM. Snag the part, and put it back into HK when you have the chance. Fin.

Thanks for, uh, telling me to check Gamefaqs. Although I guess that did sorta answer my question.

Edit: Thanks, Duke

He mentioned droids were the star of KOTOR 2. And as he didn't specifically mention where he was in the game, I assumed he was talking about all the droids.

If it was a mistake, it was an honest one.

If you'd asked how do it i would have told you, you asked how long would it be, i didnt want you bitching at me for ruining your experience. This isnt really the thread for spoilers.

True enough, I stand corrected.

On a side note, thanks for the tip about Nar Shadaa (other KOTOR thread), that was well taken.
