I've had one KK donut in my life. It was delicious, but not something I have to eat more than once in an entire year.

Oh, and Dunkin Donuts? Lol. I'm a Massachusetts resident and I can say that DD's donuts are mediocre at best. We're a far cry from when DD made their donuts fresh on the premises. Now it's all mass produced generic crap.

If you're going to treat yourself, do it right and go to local donut shops.

Dunkin Doughnuts is a crazy thing because there is not one redeeming quality about their products and yet on the East Coast they are one of the most popular spots for people.

It makes no sense.

Meanwhile KK is god tier.

Krispy Kreme Koffee certainly has a distinctive ring to it.
They mention Dunkin Doughnuts being strong. Is that really true?

I'm in Seattle and we have a few Krispy Kreme's but I've never even seen a Dunkin Doughtnuts anywhere around here.
I don't think I've seen a single Krispy Kreme here in Seattle. But I guess I haven't looked that hard. It was weird coming from a place that had Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, and Tim Hortons in a close vicinity to almost nothing in comparison.

I really can't understand how someone can criticize KK yet endorse DD's dry, stale ass donuts. There is nothing better than a fresh set of originals from KK.

Maybe they should focus on making their donuts taste not like shit. Dunkin is doing great becaus they have donuts that aren't disgusting.

Shipleys donuts are worlds better, they are actually soft, and flakey, the icing doesn't look like someone just put dried hair gel all over a donut as it does with krispey Kreme.

I live in the south and everyone here thinks Krispy Kreme is so great, but it's actually trash. Dunkin Donuts is 100x better.

They should partner with White Castle to use their coffee, it's actually pretty damn good. KK is way better than Horton's dude.

always boggled my mind how dunkin has always done well while kk has struggled so many times.

even more confusing is how some people prefer dunkin to kk. like, kk is straight up great, and so much better than dunkin, whose doughnuts are basically the same you can get anywhere. kk on the other hand has doughnuts that only they are able to make.

also, the dunkin near me costs like $1.50 for a single doughnut (2 for $3) and the last time I went to a KK, it was $1 each or $10 for a dozen (iirc).

Well, used to be DD made their doughnuts fresh, that isn't the case anymore, so they've definitely gone downhill... they still taste of nostalgia for me though. Ironically though I don't like the dripping fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts. My favorite doughnuts are actually the Shoppers' store bakery down the road from me. They're massive, they're cheap ($0.69 each) and they're damn tasty.

This is the first I've heard of KK's woes. It does seem like people are drinking massive coffee-based beverages these days instead of actual food. It's weird being the only person actually getting doughnuts at a doughnut shop.

Re-focusing on coffee worked for Tim Hortons. That's primarily what they're known for now, and they're gigantic. Donuts almost seem like an afterthought at this point.

I just can't eat their food anymore. I gave up on KK a long time ago.

Never going back.

Rockin bro!!

Closest Krispy Kream to me is about an hour away and I happily make the trip from time to time. Its astounding to me with those crack doughnuts they weren't more successful.

You are out of your god damn mind.
Dunken Doughnuts are the same doughnuts you get in a grocery store. Gtfo with this nonsense.

I actually like their regular coffee, as I'm not a donut fan in general. I can see them beefing that side if things up and doing the pseudo cafe thing easily enough.

As a side not to the donut war: Dunkin's donuts and coffee are both gross IMO.

Good point.

I live in Connecticut, no one goes to Dunkin Donuts for the donuts they go for the coffee.

Krispy Kreme opened a few stores here several years ago but all of them went out of business. I think there is one left at one of the casinos.

It's pretty much impossible to drive more than a 1/2 mile in this state without seeing a Dunkin Donuts.

I wished there are more Krispy Kreme around my place. I have to go all the way to Penn Station to grab a box of Krispy Kreme.

Their ice coffee is TERRIBLE. I actually took a couple of sits and threw it away. Wish it was better as their donuts are delicious.

Dunkin Donuts is king out here on the east coast.
Because it's ubiquitous and therefore the most convenient option.

I don't even hate their coffee. They have some decent stuff, though I've heard that they water down some of it.

Good for a quick fix but nothing more. It's crazy how many people NEED their "morning Dunkin" so that we see a lot of congestion on roads from people constantly pulling into the drive through. Sometimes it gets to the point of being dangerous, for pete's sake. DD really is ingrained in our East/Northeast culture.

I just moved to a new area about a month ago. Shortly afterwards, when I was at a local laundromat, my GF just happened to mention in an unbelievably nonchalant tone -

"Oh look, there's a Krispy Kreme next door..."

And the light was on.

Within about 4 minutes, I was sitting back down with her with six fresh off the line fried rings of bliss. After we were done, we went through the drive through....for a dozen...and I couldn't help but notice the massive amount of drinks they were advertising. They looked good, very good actually, but at the time my mind was dead set on one thing, which was golden and fried and begging to be eaten. I've been back twice since, but still, each time my eyes are on the doughnuts.

The drinks do look good, typical fancy shmancy coffee drinks, but I can't remember the price.

Get a dozen for myself every time I visit Florida.
No shame. Used to have 2 here in Massachusetts but they went down quick because of shitty Dunkin Donuts.

Dunkin Donuts is a huge chain in many states.

It is here in Illinois.

Krispy Kreme opened up here in the early 2000s and was gone in maybe 5 years. After the newness wore off and soccer moms stopped buying their shitty donuts for schools or bringing them into the office, they closed up shop.

They've still around in one form, prepackaged boxes at Wal-mart, lol.

You guys that like DD and I mean legitimately like it might want to schedule an appointment with your doctor cause there is something broken up in yo head.

DD < KK, no contest for me when it comes to chain donuts. Though in my area, and when I'm in So Cal. there is plenty of smaller mom and pop donuts that are better alternatives.

I always get confused by these stories.

Constantly complain America is fat and obesity is off the charts.

Confused when junk food companies are losing money because people are trying to be more healthy.

Like which one do we want.

I live in the Houston area and we don't have many Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kremes. It's mostly Shipleys

the fastest way to tell who is from Houston and who is not, is by what donuts they bring. They bring Shipleys, they're from Houston, they bring in krispey crap or anything else, they're not from Houston.

KK's been up and down for a while now. They got in some trouble with the SEC about 12-13 years ago when some executives played fast and loose with some of their books. There was also something about them making franchisees buy tons of their donuts at the end of the year to pad out the parent company's numbers. Most of those donuts just went spoiled and unsold.

I hate how Krispy Kreme donuts have a hard shell of sugar.

Yeah, and there's no real flavor to them either. It's just pure sugar. When I was in college there wasn't a single grocery store or gas station that didn't sell Krispy Kremes but they were never fresh and had that rock-hard frosted shell. They over-expanded and people started associating KK with the stale, hard donuts that had been sitting in stores for days.
