L.A. Rush IGN interview

Full interview

The gameplay in LA Rush emphasizes finding shortcuts through the open world map by jumping over or smashing through breakable objects to reveal a better route to win just like Rush games back in the day. These ideals were always the heart and soul of Rush games from the past, and it remains the core in all our races. We've even licensed the Hollywood sign with a special destructibility clause so we can jump off Mulholland Drive and smash through it during races - so it is still Rush.

The team is working on the online for racing.

IGN: Is Ed Logg (who worked on previous Rush games) working, or in any way consulting, on this game? And if so, what is his role in the game's design?

Steve: No. Ed is no longer with Midway.

B3 gets 60 fps because it's locked on a tight track; we're locked at 30 fps

IGN: Will unlockable versions of SF Rush, or any other Rush for that matter, be in LA Rush?

Steve: We are looking at that, yes…but can't confirm what will be in the game, or how you could find it…yet.
:D

Jumping off a conveniently placed ramp off of Mulholland with three cops on your tail, hitting turbo and smashing through the Hollywood sign complete with cut away cam that shows the sign crumbling on the hills and cops flying through the air behind you and then snapping back as you fly hundreds of feet to the roadways below ….that's LA Rush.

It does sound good to me.

This had god damn well better not be the lame NFSU knockoff that it originally was pitched as... Rush 2049 is one of my favorite games of all time.

The loss of Ed Logg is bad, though.

Did you even read the entire interview? The interview sounds like a completely different product. Color me interested.

no news on the rush 2049/hydro thunder combo? dammit, these are the only two games I play on the dreamcast anymore and it is sounding like it is on it's last legs.

Since Midway aren't making it clear in this interview, might be worth pointing out that the game is being developed in the UK by Pitbull Syndicate, according to 1UP - it's not even an internal project, hence definitely no Ed Logg (he worked out of the now-closed San Jose office anyhow):

Test Drive(no subtitle) was also done by Pitbull IIRC... fun game with lame story mode and questionable AI.

Ah but the exec producer of this new Rush is the producer from EA who produced Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit and Porsche Unleased....

Quite a few of the Test Drive titles were actually done by Pitbull. The bulk of their history is Test Drive in fact. I've never cared for the series, so I don't know if them doing LA Rush is a good thing ... but I guess only time will tell.

The physics and controls were terrible in the last TD games. But who knows, if a company like WartHog can surprise me with the greatness of RBR after such a lame history I will keep my mind open.
