Gaga says she’s moved on with writing songs about her quest for fame to crafting tunes with an angry, perhaps political bent.

Well, thanks for Bad Romance and Poker Face, Gaga.
This will be my last stop on the train, then.

On the bright-side, the information about each track makes it look interesting and different.

But the quotes in the OP really turned me off towards Gaga at this point. She sounds angry and spoiled.

"Edge of Glory" has got to be the safest track Gaga's ever made (it seems tailor-made for a Glee episode), but strangely...I like it better than any single she's released this era. It just seems like a more genuine offering from her. It doesn't exist solely to push any buttons. It's just a song and she's singing it, instead of hitting me over the head with messages or cliche religious metaphor.

EoG is really quite vanilla, and that's very refreshing coming from Gaga.

(And it does kinda sound like if Bon Jovi and Kenny G had a baby...lol)

Gaga sure knows how to play her cards (no poker face pun intended). She puts out Born This Way, a cool catchy song that's mediocre by Gaga standards, but draws in fans of Pop, then Judas, a song better than Born This Way that appeals to all of us Gaga fans, and then drops this bomb on us. Fucking amazing, Gaga.

I really like the song.

She wrote it cause her grandfather passed away. But before he did she caught him having a last look at his wife. So she called that last moment he had with her the edge of glory and wrote this song about him/for him.

...
"There ain't no reason you and me should be alone tonight, yeah baby"

"I need a man who thinks it's right when it's so wrong tonight, yeah baby"
Erm... ok...

You can't take lyrics literally all of the time.

(Seems to be from Grandma Gaga's perspective come on guys sheesh)

omg, I really like Edge of Glory. :')

I've liked all her songs from BTW so far. I like that BTW is just fun and poppy and it's something you can just jam to. Judas is kind of Bad Romance Part 2, in the same way BR is danceable, and Edge is just really...sweet. I agree it's her "safest" song, but yeah, it's really sweet and nice.

Third time's the charm. Notable step up from the other two singles; it's big, it's simple, there's a strong hook (maybe too strong -- we're practically dealing with a six minute chorus) and for once, she's left the soap box at home. "Edge" certainly won't be a touchstone of any sort, but the early '90s stylistic throwback is appealing and the sax is like coming home to a warm pop music embrace. Not bad.

Hoooooly shit. This track is a beast. I've only listened to it once, and I NEED IT AGAIN. The part where her voice gets higher and higher is crazy euphoric. Gaga kicks my ass yet again.

GAME OVER. SHUT IT DOWN

It's so corny, but I don't care because the energy behind it has me hooked. And the chorus makes me smile.

<3 Gaga

Okay, I'm hyped for the album now, Born This Way was a complete disappointment for me, but I loved Judas and now love Edge of Glory, very nice song. Never doubt Gaga!

iTunes won't let me buy Edge of Glory (the snippets sounds like Bon Jovi gone electro-pop, i.e. pretty cool), and gives me a 5002 error. Goddamn shitty program.

Edit: Listening to the song now via the youtube link. Chorus is pretty decent, the rest is eh. Nothing great so far. Bad Romance 2.0 Judas is better

Edit 2: holy tits that saxophone is annoying.

Edit 3: OK, finished first listen. Very good (and catchy) chorus, rest is kinda eh. Not bad, but nothing OMG awesomesauce either. I'm starting to fear the album won't be able to live up to The Fame Monster and/or the massive hype :(

Tagless.

Also, is it just me......but if you look closely between her left elbow.....is that....

wow, I can't believe I don't like any of the released singles so far. It seems like the only songs I like are off the Fame.

Gaga does Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You.

She really isn't delivering this time round.

lol at this saxophone. I feel like I am walking out of a movie during the credits.

Edit: To be honest, I think I like Judas better, but I need to listen this again on some non-shitty work speakers.

Or just a pop ballad.

Also, I now love Judas. It took a month, but grew on me a ton.

Yeah, it's very generic.

The only good thing so far has been that sample loop from Judas, but even that's been used far better elsewhere.

Growing on me after some listens, and it's definitely better than BtW, but not quite up there with Judas. The chorus makes me think of Bon Jovi for some reason.

That horrible sax still sounds ass though.

EOG is fun, much better than the previous two, although it's not a sure-fire hit. Reminded me of Kelly Clarkson as well. The theme is cool and it's a fitting song to wrap a tracklist. Could have been a decent rock song.

I love the hating on the sax mostly because it's the best part of the song. Hah. It's definitely better than Judas and BTW.

What the hell did I just listen to?

This is like a condensed version of everything that's wrong about Eurovision Song Contest music, and it takes the worst elements from kitschy 80s music. Edge of Glory won't get any playtime from me at all, just like BTW.

I'm starting to wonder if this album will be any good. I'm just glad that it will have twice the amount of tracks as The Fame Monster, so there's bound to be some hidden gold in there. I mean really... But if the singles are supposed to represent the best of it, then sheesh...

So now that Gaga has declined faster than Kobe, are you guys going to make the switch over to some good music?

There are infinitely better dance artists and infinitely better female pop stars.

sure give examples and I'll start listening to them! (as well as continuing to listen to Gaga because I don't feel this decline as you do)

PJ Harvey is an awesome female artist! Better pop artists? Like who? I like Lykke Li a little bit (lol)

who are these better dance artists? I really like Roisin Murphy!

Is there anyone that puts on as cool a show as Gaga? I've only been to the Monster Ball once and it's the only 'big!' show I've been to. Anything like that?

oh and I'm not questioning you feeling there are better dance artists, I believe you, just give me some examples because I like listening to a lot of music!

Name a few.

Gaga-GAF has to take a step back from their obsession and judge the music objectively.

If she wants to make less commercially friendly stuff I'm all for that, but this is just simply tepid music at best.
Part of the reason people are so polarized is because she has more raw talent - vocally, playing piano, etc. than most others.

She's simply squandering that talent and hiding behind gimmick.

I'm often tempted to say things along the lines of "If it hadn't her name attached to it, nobody would care", but aside from perhaps a very small minority who will praise her stuff either way, that's simply not true. For example, I genuinely like the song Judas, and when it came out someone in the Judas thread said the usual "if it weren't Lady Gaga than....", and I was like "no!". So it would be pretty dishonest for me to say "if it weren't..." about this song now. You have to take people at face value, and believe them when they say they like or dislike a song. That goes both ways btw, think about the "haters gonna hate" meme.
