JUDAS is coming! The single is set to release on April 19th and the music video has already been shot. This is Lady Gaga's first directorial debut[/u] along with her long time choreography, Laurie-Ann Gibson.

Comments about the song's music video from Gibson
And ‘Judas’ is exciting for me because we had this amazing artistic approach to ‘BTW’ and I’m so excited for how riveting, energetic and electric the record is, something really phenomenal. So, visually, the dance, the costuming, the idea of how big we’re trying to go, [it's] going to be a roller-coaster ride.

Gaga's interpretation of the song
"It's no surprise, I'm sure, to many of you, that Judas is a man of the biblical senses, so expect to see some symbolism in this video." She continued explaining that the song/video is about confronting one's demons. "You have to look into what is haunting you and you need to look into forgiving yourself in order to move on. And it's really fun to dance to and sounds like it could be a pop priest record."

Vogue's brief recap of the track
“The melody sounds like it was written for the Ronettes, but it is set to a sledgehammering dance beat and is about falling in love with the wrong men and backstabbing them, of the biblical variety.

Other tidbits
  • The song is very dark and in-depth, much more than Born This Way
  • Produced by RedOne. (Just Dance, LoveGame, Poker Face, Bad Romance, Alejandro and Monster)
  • Luc Carl, Gaga's on-again-off-again boyfriend will allegedly be playing Judas

Confirmed lyrics
When he comes to me, I am ready.
I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs.
Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain.
Even after three times he betrays me.
I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.

'Cause I'm just a holy fool
Oh baby, he's so cruel,
But I'm still in love with Judas, baby

Rumoured leaked lyrics
[Intro]
Dear Judas
My beloved you belong to me
No more backstabbing please
Your blood colored beads
Jealousy, Envy, Insanity

My evil judas(death and vanity)
My evil judas(death and vanity)
Let go of me, your poison ivy
My evil judas(death and vanity)
Please let go, you're Poison Ivy to me

[verse 1]
As much as I obsess
about the sick things you do
Follow you around and stalk your every move,
I know your laughing behind closed doors, but no more, cause
I'm just a holy fool,
Oh baby he's so cruel, but i'm still in love with judas, baby

Uggh(death and vanity)

[Chorus]
When he comes to me, i am ready.
I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs.
Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain.
Even after three times he betrays me.
I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.
Judas look what have you done
My heart bleeds and you think it's fun?

My evil judas(death and vanity)
My evil judas(death and vanity)
Let go of me, your poison ivy
My evil judas(death and vanity)
Please let go, you're Poison Ivy to me

[Verse]
Second verse, same as the first
Your bible won't save you now
From the glares of the everlasting light,
remember those hot nights where you lied and lied on my bed
Stabbed me in the back
Let my blood trickle on your rose thorns
but he came and whispered in my ear and left me torn.
Cause i'm just a holy fool,
Oh baby he's so cruel, but i'm still in love with judas, baby

Uggh(death and vanity)

[Chorus]
When he comes to me, i am ready.
I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs.
Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain.
Even after three times he betrays me.
I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.
Judas look what have you done
my heart bleeds and you think it's fun?

Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no,
Jealousy, Envy, Insanity,
Misery, Rosary, Sunday,
Trinity, Infinite, Judas, i love you baby! Signed mother monsteriety.

My evil judas(death and vanity)
my evil judas(death and vanity)
Let go of me, your poison ivy
My evil judas(death and vanity)
Please let go, you're Poison Ivy to me

I'm sure it will be. Born This Way is described as being a very different sound to the rest of the album. Previews we've had of Scheibe and Government Hooker definitely confirm this fact. Government Hooker will sound more like Judas, I'm thinking - mainly due to the shared producer.

RedOne is producing JUDAS, which I hope will mean a more "classic" Gaga track. Although I loved Dance In The Dark and that was produced by Fernando Garibay, who also produced Born This Way.

I don't know what to think anymore!

But seriously, I am very certain Judas will not let me down.

I hope this will be the last of the religious stuff. I tolerated it in Born This Way and I guess I will in Judas too as it seems to be more metaphorical this time but if she keeps doing it it's going to really bother me.

Also, 6 whole posts and no Koodo. Is he okay??

I think it's more of an idea of adapting a biblical story and making it a bit more contemporary. If that makes ANY sense. >_> I am sure it won't be heavy on the imagery, although from what I hear the video clip sounds like it will definitely ruffle many feathers within the church.

Gaga asa Magdalene? Really?

I predicted Born This Way would be shit, and I will continue by predicting that this will be just as bad. Just to clarfy, my first prediction was correct.

I get that she needs to find some way to differentiate herself from everyone that has ripped off her music/style, but surely not by copying another artist. Ultimately she will fail in her quest to become Madonna.

I can't wait for the bloated boring music video. I hope this one has even more pointless narrations and "disturbing" artsy imagery!

On a serious note I hope this song is better than Born this way, that was a pretty big disappointment :/

"Express Yourself" was always my favorite Madonna song, but it's not really that similar to Born This Way outside of one chord progression that's been used way before Madonna discovered it. The whole "rip-off" claim is starting to get really old.

This song will be sick. Born This Way is my favorite Gaga song so I'm confident that this whole album's gonna be a great pop package.

8 more days bitches!

its crazy to me people even find its an issue after shes experienced major success even before Born This Way. I think she has established she doesn't need to stand on anyones shoulders to get ahead.

A review for the track is now out. It will apparently do to Bad Romance what Bad Romance did to Poker Face.
So it'll be worse?

This better be good, this album needs to be better than fame monster

But Gaga fans seems to think everyone is ripping off their precious.

My hype bar is set to zero after the disappointment that was Born This Way. I'm not liking this snowballing idea that Gaga has of herself where her lyrics need to be deep and symbolic. Fuck, I just want some Telephone, Bad Romance, Pokerface, and Paparazzi type shit.

sooo why does she rely on heavy borrowing from other songs to craft her own?

are you being serious? I can't say for certain. If so what borrowing are you referring to?

Hopefully people get a bit more excited about this since it's so GODDAMN CLOSE!

GAGAVISION 42 tomorrow too!

after all that was said about Born This Way pre-release (incl. PJ's glowing review) my expectations for JUDAS are 6 underground. -_-

So you prefer artists that don't write any of their own lyrics or music (or edit one or two words and claim they cowrote it) over ones that borrow while writing?

It isn't released until the 19th? Great, now I'm going to have to try to forget about it again until the wait is over.

Yep, the evangelizing is right on the verge of too heavy handed for me. Religious symbolism is great, but I'll not pretend along with Gaga that the whole god issue is a settled matter. I already have to put my brain on hold when I listen to her music. I'm not going to throw it out the window for the dogs.

This song better be good, otherwise it will be the beginning of downhill GAGA
The way GAF bitched and moaned about Born This Way, you would have thought she'd have had to cancel all her live shows. As it turned out, the song was a chart topper and Gaga has never been bigger. Even if Judas sucks total balls her career will be fine unless the full album fails to sell.

Gaga has a long history of stealing entire melodies from other songs, with Born This Way being the most recent.

Whereas Britney works together with a wide group of people to make music, totally different.

Does any other musical artist take themselves so damn seriously?
Not this shit again. Since the beginning of her career Gaga has been the first person to admit it's all a show. In interviews she refers to her life as a performance art piece. Can't we finally put to bed this tedious and outplayed complaint? I hardly think a woman who walks around with a fucking silver-plated lobster on her head is in dire peril of losing her sense of humor.

Edit:

I put my stock in the Tarantino school of art. If the key to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources, why not just rip people off in broad daylight and call it an homage? There's something refreshing about that kind of audacity. Even as respectable a guy as a Cormac McCarthy, the titan of American literature, is prepared to admit, "The ugly truth is books are made out of books."

It's not where you get your inspiration that matters, it's what you do with it.

Alright, but what did she rip off? if you want to go that route I'd argue there isn't one writer today that isn't ripping off Shakespeare.
