Why is it even necessary in Tomb Raider? It’s a game about a woman who fights her way through tombs and solving puzzles with the occasional set piece.

Maybe they’ll find a way to make it make sense but without any more details, this couldn’t feel any more shoe horned in to meet some kind of agenda.

Oh and before I get accused of being a homophobe, my response would have been precisely the same (minus it trying to fit an agenda) if the love interest was a male character.

The whole point is that Lara has never really cared about anything outside of finding artifacts and having daddy issues, especially any potential love interest.

I think game writers in general have trouble creating powerful characters in an active relationship. Kidnappning is kinda boring so they don’t go there anymore, that was common in the past,

Only characters I can think of where there is a clear relationship and the partner is not kidnapped but is at home cooking and taking care of the kids while you play a mass murderer is Ellie and Nathan Drake.

But then again, how many action movies are there with a female protagonist that is in an active relationship with a man throughout the movie?

The new Resident Evil serie had that but it’s so very rare.

She has been romantically involved with Alex West in the movies and Chase Carver in the comics. But this was a long time ago. Can’t remember if they’ve been in the games or even mentioned afterwards.

I think the point to note here is that rumor is about...her sexuality.

It I literally adds nothing. If it was good for story than smut and erotic literature would be the top of the novel hierarchy but they aren’t. Good story usually has none of these. And it isn’t a plot to discover your “sexuality”. It is never going to be some revelation that humans are sexual beings.

Sex scenes ad nothing to movies or books actual story.

You mean like Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, Far Cry 6, RE Village, Outriders, and the vast majority of other games just released in the past year or so that have nothing to do with romantic relationships?

Like besides TLOU2 I am struggling to think of any recently that made it an actual story point and not completely player optional like Cyberpunk.

I’d say that it’s counterproductive to both the IP in general and the game. When they close the door for a heterosexual Lara then some fans will be pissed about that, with lots of negativity on Twitter and elsewhere. And when they close the door for a homosexual Lara then some fans will be pissed about that as well, with lots of negativity on Twitter and elsewhere yet again.

And the devs then have to listen to that noise every day after the unveil and long after the release.

How about just making a badass solitary action hero that don’t waste time on relationships because finding ancient treasures is their life?

Or, just make romancing a choice, like in Mass Effect or Assassin’s Creed. Dodge all controversy. Let fans fantasize about whatever they want.
