Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch’s role in Bond 25 will reportedly have audiences dropping their popcorn in shock. Lashana’s role has been kept underwraps but sources close to the production have now claimed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s rewrite of the script will see the 31-year-old be introduced to audiences as 007. Now that is a moment we can’t wait to see. James Bond fans will know that the spy retired at the end of Spectre and as Bond 25 opens he will be living a life of luxury in Jamaica. However soon we will return to MI6 in London and the insider reveals that ‘there is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says “come in 007”, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman’.

With Bond in retirement, it makes sense for the agency to pass on his codename to another agent, and we are here for it being a woman.

It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,’ the source told

Bond kinda ends for me with Daniel Craig.
Not sure what to think of this one.
What you guys think?

I think the idea of a story where Bond is coming to grips with the fact that someone replaced him as 007 is an interesting one, as long as it ends with him once again being 007.

Otherwise I think this sounds stupid as hell. To me James Bond films are about James Bond, period. I don't want to see the role gender or race swapped.

Considering the Craig films are mostly about him quitting, being told to quit, or going AWOL the chances of him just saddling back up at the end in his final turn as Bond are basically 0.

It's likely just a story element of the new movie that wraps up Craig's story and era.

They'll recast and reboot Bond for future movies like they always do and I doubt it'll actually be a black woman.

Casino Royale is the best film because it grew the mythology of the character. It was his Origin story. How are the stand-alone stories in the other films going to touch that?

I don't think James Bond needs to replaced., Why not introduce new Agents as a 006, ala Sean Bean in Goldeneye? It could be a spin-off series with crossovers like Marvel.

The press release weirds me out. Why do you need to emphasise that she is black, beautiful and a woman. It makes it sound forced and fake.

I get that its a sexy choice, but this is a one in a million shot that it connects with audiences, Bond can do everything so well I mean Bond is a historic character, no other character is mentioned in the same breath as Bond.

They better tread carefully here.

007 is and always has been James Bond and James Bond is and always has been 007. You cannot separate the two. They are a cultural phenomenon.

If Bond 25 ends with a new “woke” Bond, good luck to the franchise!

Can’t wait for a new Shaft movie with Bill Burr playing Shaft. Because, why not?

Yeah, I wanna see James Bond. You know, the great character created by Ian Fleming? Not Jane Bond, the character created by brain-dead movie execs.

Want to make a female spy movie? Great, go do that. I hope it's a good movie and I'll even check it out. There's room for more.

Do not. Do not erase a beloved character from a legendary series.

I am not racist in the least, but God da** it... Bond, created by Ian Fleming is a man. A man... I was all for Idris Alba as bond but not this... I would boycott this in its entirety and would never see this as a long time bong fan.

Create a brand new spy movie using MI6. I don't care, but do not associate her with the 007 title.

Everything I’m hearing about this film so far sounds like a train wreck. The movie is behind schedule, had to move the release, Daniel Craig is apparently an asshole on set and broke his ankle filming, the director allegedly came to set once hours late because he was allegedly playing PlayStation, and now this nonsense.

This is going to be a train wreck.

Horrible tokenism of black actors and actresses.

Tokenism is the practice of making only a perfunctory or symbolic effort to be inclusiveto members of minority groups, especially by recruiting a small number of people from underrepresented groups in order to give the appearance of racial or sexual equality within a workforce.[1][2][3] The effort of including a token employee to a workforce is usually intended to create the impression of social inclusiveness and diversity (racial, religious, sexual, etc.) in order to deflect accusations of discrimination.[4] One additionally relevant term for tokenism is "hyper-tokenism". Hyper-tokenism is where a person of color has increased screen time, is involved in the plot and in promotional images, but the white characters are still the most significant characters by the end of the film.[5] Another relevant term is "ambiguously brown". Ambiguously brown characters are characters that are white-passing, but not fully white so that whatever they are cast in is not completely whitewashed. [6]

What's next Julia Bourne, Jason's hidden sister that also lost her memory?

Honestly, I wouldn’t care if they did that. They would be making a separate character as a spin-off and the market would dictate its success. In the case of Bond, they’re saying there will never be a Jane Bond, but then they’re doing the next best thing and gender/race flipping the moniker 007, which is synonymous with James Bond. That they didn’t just make a spin-off with a different number betrays their underlying intention of repealing and replacing “problematic” identities, i.e. white males.

I remember there was talk of doing a bond spinoff with Halle Berry as "Jinx" (from Die Another Day)

Now she was a "stunning woman".

If they hand the moniker over to this new character but the film still concentrates on Bond. I'm ok with that. But if the film centres on the new character I'll be annoyed.

We’ve had what, 50 years of bond? I’m fine with them trying different experiments on the formula to come up with some unique stories. The last few bonds have been.... uninspired.

I quite liked Skyfall. Spectre was pretty meh though. I actually just had to google it to remind myself what it was called lol

Same, I though Skyfall was pretty good, though it had its flaws. Spectre was not as bad as people make it out to be, but I think they definitely did not use Christoph Waltz to his maximum potential (or Ralph Fiennes as the new M, for that matter).
